Weird War Tales 8

Another Adams Holy Grail To Add Awesome! My first signature acquisition in two years. A very tough book to find slabbed above 9.0, let alone a 9.6. And I bought this at a local convention. Classic Neal Adams cover. Signed, a pedigree copy and the highest graded (no 9.8s, universal or otherwise). Wish I could call this an Oak, but there are two more 9.6 signatures out there. Regardless, this is as good as it gets. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments

Silver Age Phantom Stranger

Nice Showcase Cover By Neal Adams Deciding whether or not to bid for this book in the current Comic Link auction. With two days to go, the bid now stands at $375. I don't know why, but this book has become quite hot lately. Is the Phantom Stranger going to be appearing in an upcoming movie? Perhaps. Well, something is up with this issue. Enjoy. Spectre 2

Early DC Work By Adams My latest Comic Link auction win. An upgrade from the 9.2 copy that I sold last year. The Spectres are somewhat under appreciated issues done by Neal Adams in 1968. No doubt overshadowed by his Deadman stories in Strange Adventures at that time. They are quite affordable in ultra high grade too, as evidenced by the dirt cheap price I won this book for. Enjoy. Rich Man's Hobby?

Another Awesome Sale Of Action 1 Looks like it's up...up and away with the value of this book. Action 1, CGC 5.5, won at Heritage auctions yesterday for $956,000! One shudders to think what a 9.2 would sell for if one should ever turn up on the market. Never let it be said that the vintage comic book industry is dying. Not as long as those rich collectors are out there, anyways. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Another Nice Auction Win

Magnum Force My second and final win in the current Comic Link auction. As is usually the case with the 1970s X-Men acquisitions, the dollar/registry point ratio is amazing. This one is worth 616 points, about four times the dollar amount of my winning bid. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

High Grade Conan Acquired

Adams Inking Not Noted Won this during the ongoing Comic Link auction. Highest graded, obviously. On the CGC label, Neal Adams is not listed for his inking done on this issue. Don`t ask me why. Maybe due to the fact that Adams only partially inked. Anyways, a nice win nonetheless for the price I won it for. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. One More Auction Win

Conan Windsor-Smith Rules! This is the second book I won in the current Comiclink auction. One of my favorite Barry Windsor-Smith covers and probably the finest of his picture frame covers. A simple layout, for sure, but oh, so eye catching! Pretty to tough to find in CGC above 9.4, no doubt due to all that black on the cover. Got it for a great price too. Enjoy. OAK Acquisition

Oh, What A Feeling! Just won this in the current Comiclink auction. One of the first books Neal Adams did at DC. It also happens to be one of only five go-go check covers with Neal's artwork. Did I mention that it's an OAK? About as hard to find among Adams books as can be. Now the only Adams book I need is 108. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Talia Recap

The Stats For All To See Re: Detective Comics 411. Thanks to those of you who replied to my last journal. Talia's popularity has definitely increased as of late. In the Comiclink auction that featured the 9.8 copy, there was also a 9.0 that went for $761. By contrast, in a Comic Connect auction two years ago, a 9.4 went for $580! And just a few hours ago in an ebay auction, an 8.5 went for $357. Not too uncommon to find this book in 9.4 or lower. I believe there are less than 10 9.6s and only

Talia Has Become Super Hot

First Appearance With An Adams Cover The recent ComicLink auction saw Detective Comics 411, CGC 9.8, go for $8000! The debut of Talia al Ghul, one month before Batman 232. I for one, did not know this book had become so hot. Must have something to do with the fact that Talia is the mother of Batman's son. I guess the best grade I could hope to afford is an 8.5 - probably about $400. Must be nice to be able to afford this one! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New com

My First Qualified

Adams Does Batman/Enemy Ace Picked this one up one ebay. Kind of hesitant at first, but eventually I gave in. It was listed at a buy it now price for just over $100. A beautiful book, detached top staple notwithstanding. And a pedigree to boot. I figure a 9.4 CGC universal would cost an arm and a leg, so I bit my lip and committed. Plus, this has to be one of the most sought after issues by Neal Adams among his Detective books. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here

X-Men 100

Great Book At A Great Price Picked this one up on ebay New Year's day. Yet another example of fantastic points/dollars ratio. Got it for dirt cheap, the points outweighing the dollars threefold in this case. Not a bad cover either! But then again, most of the covers from this issue up to 120 are awesome. Enjoy. And Happy New Year everyone! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Frazetta Greatness II

Well.........Sort Of Always liked this cover. I say sort of because the cover was done by Ken Kelly, but (a little known fact) the girls face was drawn by Frank Frazetta, who just so happened to be Kelly`s father-in-law. This is my last acquisition of 2015. And it`s about time I picked up another Warren magazine with a Frazetta (sort of) cover. Enjoy. And Happy Holidays everyone! Conan 49

Latest Addition To My Collection Another cover featuring the odd pairing of Neal Adams and Gil Kane. A nice rendering, nevertheless. The two artists had also done the cover of issue 45. This book comes very close to the end of the Adams Marvel/DC era. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

One More Adams Lois Book

Soon To Be Slabbed Purchased this from Comic Connect just recently. Love the green cover here, my favorite of Neal's work on this title. Sold to me as a 9.0, hoping that CGC sees fit to give it the same. Was unable to find a high grade slabbed copy anywhere. Lois has Superman backed into quite a corner. Marry you, Lois? No worries! Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Star Reach

Provocative Cover By Adams Picked this one up recently on Comiclink. A cool, sexy cover by Neal Adams on this obscure title. Just how obscure? Well, the registry does not even allocate points to these books. I think this was a stab at adult themed stories outside the jurisdiction of the comics code authority, like the Warren magazines. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Star Reach

Provocative Cover By Adams Picked this one up on Comiclink recently. A nice, sexy cover by Neal Adams on this obscure title. Just how obscure? Well, the CGC registry does not allocate any points to these books. From the mid seventies, I think this was a stab at adult themed stories outside the jurisdiction of the comics code authority, like the Warren magazines. Enjoy. Armageddon Now!

Finally Got Around To Another X-Men Book Won this one also in the latest Comiclink auction. The first issue to feature artwork by John Byrne. Not a bad cover, I guess. Gotta love that mid-1970s X-Men points/dollar ratio. This one is worth 420 points, five times the dollar amount I won it for. Enjoy. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. O'Neil And Adams At Their Best

Just Say No To Drugs Just won this during the current Comiclink auction. An incredible story that continues onto GL/GA 86. This storyline might very well be the summit of the O'Neil/Adams work during this run. And the cover is awe-inspiring, to say the least. If only the comic book covers of today were this good! I think the drug issue was covered a few months earlier by Marvel in Spider-Man 96-98, but this is the story that gets down to the nitty-gritty. Enjoy. To see old comments for th

Lane Again

My Second Adams Lois book Bought this one from fellow registry member dover. A pretty good representation of the early work by Neal Adams on DC covers. At this time, his covers were very much science fiction themed, as opposed to the social commentary that would come later in his work. Now the only Lois Lane book I want is issue 85. Enjoy. Flash 203

Neal's Photo-Realism Gets Real A cool, partial photo cover by Neal Adams. Back in the silver and bronze age this type of art/photograph cover would turn up every now and then. This and Sub-Mariner 8 are some of the more well known covers in this regard. Don't care for that outfit worn by Iris Allen though. How can she walk around with pants like those she has on in that other world? Another interesting item about this book is that at one time, some would have you believe that the pedestrian on

Adams Avengers Vs. Mandroids

Nice Black Picture Frame Cover Just won this in the recent Pedigree Comics auction. Somewhat tough to find in higher grades. A 9.4 here, strangely so, regarding the spine stress. Oh well, I'll take it! This story is part of the Kree/Skrull saga that went on for about nine issues, with Neal Adams doing the interior art on four of them. By the way, saw Age Of Ultron yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Neal's Batman At War

Joe Kubert.........Or Is It Adams? A fine b&b cover here by Neal Adams. Picked this one up recently from Comiclink. As if it wasn't enough that Adams art was brilliant, he could also mimic the art of other comic book legends. Here he does his best Joe Kubert imitation and if you look at his name in the bottom left hand corner, he's even written it the same way Kubert does. Sold the 9.0 I originally had and upgraded to this 9.4 Rocky Mountain pedigree. Enjoy. To see old comments for th

RIP Herb

For Me, He was THE Hulk Artist Sad to hear the news about Herb Trimpe's passing. As a kid collecting comics in the 1970s, the Hulk was one of my favorite titles. I had just about every issue from 117 to 181, bought either as back issues or fresh off the spinner rack. (Too bad I didn't hold onto 181!) Presented here is issue 168, the first appearance of the Harpy and one of my favorite covers. What is notable about this issue is that it contains panels of a nude Betty Ross(albeit with her priva
