About this journal

I have two creative projects I will be discussing in this journal.

The first is The Crimebusters, a new comic series I am writing and drawing. Picking up where Boy Comics left off, The Crimebusters #120 is set in the fall of 1956, with Chuck Chandler — aka Crimebuster — returning to Curtiss Tech for his junior year of college. As always, though, intrigue and mystery abound, as Chuck is reluctantly forced to team up with girl reporter Trixie Trouble to investigate the shocking death of a beloved professor. This is my first comic book, so it's a real learning process trying to make it; I will be detailing that process here. I hope to have the issue complete by the end of March, with the goal of heading to Kickstarter in April for a May publication date. We'll see how it goes though!

The second project I have is the Classic Comics Forum Podcast, where I discuss classic comic book runs. I'm aiming for an episode a month at this point, and will provide updates whenever new episodes become available.

Thanks for reading!

My new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2 is coming to Kickstarter next week

Man, I have been so busy I haven't had a time to post any updates here. Sorry about that! But I wanted to let everyone know that my newest comic, Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2, is coming to Kickstarter next week, October 27, just in time for Halloween. When cultists summon Cthulhu to attack New York City at the height of World War II, Uncle Sam has to call on the aid of Lady Liberty in order to save America! Here's the link to the pre-launch page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thecri

My new comic is now LIVE on Kickstarter!

I'm excited to announce that my new comic, The Crimebusters #4, is now live on Kickstarter!   This one has been a lot of work for a long time. I've had a lot of health issues, and I drew this entire 36 page issue while lying down. But it's done, and I'm really excited, as this is my first issue that in color instead of black and white.    Thanks for all the support with this project!

The Crimebusters #4 is coming to Kickstarter on May 15!

Well, I have been remiss in posting stuff here, just have had so much personal life stuff over the past year that I haven't been around as much. However, I'm back, and so is my self-published comic The Crimebusters, which is a continuation of the Golden Age Crimebuster series from Boy Comics.  The Crimebusters #4 will be coming to Kickstarter on May 15! But you don't need to mark it in your calendars. The pre-launch page is live, so if you go there and click the "Notify me on laun

time is running out on Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam!

Hello, friends! There's just 9 days left in the Kickstarter campaign for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, so I thought I'd give another update for those interested. Right now, we're fully funded! Hurray! So thank you all for the support, I really appreciate it! The official goal was $2800. As I'm typing this, we're just short of the first stretch goal, so I haven't announced any of the future stretch goals yet. But the scoop is this: in order to break even, I actually need to g

Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam update!

Well, we're almost halfway through the Kickstarter campaign for my new comic Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, so I thought I'd provide an update. Right now we're at 87% funded, so it's going pretty well. The campaign is in the dead zone at the moment, so I'm grinding out cross promotion posts and stuff like that to try and get some more eyeballs on things. I also recently added 11x17 prints to the add-ons, and that helped, as several people adjusted their pledges upwards. It was a request from a backer, s

Hello, good friends! I'm excited to announce that my newest comic, Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, is now officially LIVE on Kickstarter! This one is written by me, but with art by Jay Piscopo. The story: at the height of World War II, a secret cult tries to summon the dread Cthulhu, and only one person can save the world -- Uncle Sam! I've shared some of the covers and art before, but here's a look at all 6 covers:

Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam!

Hello, friends! I'm excited to announce that my new comic book, Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, will be going live on Kickstarter on June 28.  I think the high concept pretty much explains itself, but: at the height of World War II, a group of Nazi cultists attempt to summon Cthulhu. Only one person can stop them: Uncle Sam! Unlike The Crimebusters, I am not doing the art for this. It just takes too long for me to draw, and I realized that if I want to produce more comics, I need to hire artists

The Crimebusters #1-3 - second chance

Hello, friends! So, I'm excited that the Kickstarter for the latest issue of my comics The Crimebusters successfully funded. I now have all the books in hand and have sent out all the rewards to my backers.  I also know there were a lot of people who wanted to get it, but due to the circumstances of the past year, weren't in position to do so. So I'm trying something new this time, which is Indiegogo InDemand. Basically, it's an open-ended continuation of the Kickstarter campaign,

Here's my CGC "unboxing" video

I made a video where I show the results of all 5 variants of my comic, The Crimebusters #1, that I sent into CGC. Results were mixed! But it was a good learning experience, particularly just trying to figure out how the submission process works when you are sending in your own signed books. The answer is: it's confusing!

Just back from CGC...

Cross-posting this from the main forum, because I'm just too excited to keep it to myself. I just got this back from CGC - it's the first issue blank variant of my self-published comic The Crimebusters, which I then signed and sketched with an homage to Archie #50, starring my character Trixie Trouble.  When I learned that artists can submit signature series books and act as their own witness, I had to try it!

Grail acquired! Plus: what's your origin story?

I've been churning out the YouTube videos, so there's a bunch to see on my channel, but I thought I'd just highlight these two.   In this video, I spend 5x as much as I ever have for a comic and acquire one of my personal grails:       And in this one, I start a new series called Origin Stories: The Comics That Shaped Us where I interview comic book fans about their origin story as a collector, though the lens of the 10 individual comics that had the bigge

The Crimebusters #3 three page sneak preview

Hello, friends! I'm hard at work on The Crimebusters #3, so I thought I would share a sneak preview up the upcoming issue. Here's the first three pages. The forums here are compressing them slightly, so they look a tetch fuzzy, but don't worry, they are crisp and clear in real life.
