The Legacy of Superman #1 Second Printing

I’ve been spending some time over the last few months searching eBay for raw copies of the harder to find later printings I still need for my Death and Return of Superman collection. One such book on my list was Superman: The Legacy of Superman #1 Second Printing, a true ghost, I have yet to see one in a comic shop or for sale online. After searching unsuccessfully, I decided to reach out to a friend, who just so happened to have a 9.8 copy certified by CGC. To my surprise my friend agreed to sell it to me.

This copy is beautiful, this issue is most likely the rarest of the later printings from this storyline, not just in grade, just rare, period. Thank you @onlyweaknesskryptonite! As of this writing I’m only the fifth collector in CGC history to have a certified 9.8 of this printing. The first 9.8 belonged to a registry user who then sold it to @Iconic1s, last year onlyweaknesskryptonite submitted two raw copies, and both came back in 9.8, making for a total of only 3 in the census.

It's also great to check an item off the list! As you can see by the whiteout, I’ve parted with a few of these but got most of them back.

Glad that it arrived safe and that you like it.  It was hard to let go. Out of the three 9.8  currently on the census two of those were mine. One was sold last year.  This one does look good in your set.

I definitely agree they are ghosts.

Congratulations!

join Brandon in thanking you for making more than just this book a reality in 9.8. I have also benefited from your submissions, and have at least one other super hard to find book from this set in 9.8 because you were smart enough to grab these later printings ‘back in the day.’

If I remember correctly @joeypost worked on both books!

Congrats again Brandon, those look great together and it’s so much fun to read about them in your Journal!!

You are both welcome.  I have enjoyed being able to , not only have these as long as I did , but to have been able to pass them on to other collectors who appreciate them as much as I have.

Thank you both!

Yes!

Congratulations, you are truly the unicorn hunter ‘round here! That copy looks beautiful!

Thank you. Sadly, I believe, the back keeps it out of 9.8 territory.  Still always happy to find these..

Is it pressable?

$30 shipping?!

Cost of shipping insurance on $2,500 :roflmao:

Makes me sad I sold the 2 I had but this does make me think it might be time to list another one of my raws on ebay. Think I still have 5 or so..

You will find another one to make into a 9.8.

Looking back through this journal posting got me thinking about another OG that I haven’t seen in awhile. I want to give thinks to @bryan91 for being a real trailblazer for the Death and Return of Superman registry set. If memory serves me correctly, bryan91 was THE first to submit or collect many of these later printings for books in the registry set beyond the multiple printings of Man of Steel #18 and Superman #75.

To the Godfather, thank you for laying the groundwork!
