  1. This splash reminds me of Binder art.
  2. A couple of Stoner covers. I like the dinosaur/dragon.
  3. Like this splash but not sure about the artist.
  4. Another Allen Ulmer cover for comparison. I don't think I have shown any of this new batch of scans before but I might forget since it has been a while since anyone contributed to this thread. bb I think this is Ulmer too.
  5. Thanks for posting the story. It looks familiar but I know I don't have that book. bb
  6. ...but I don't know what might logically follow the Barks splash. Chistmas?
  7. I think this scan is from ebay. I cleaned it up a little with photoshop. bb Edit: She had a staple through her hand which may have distorted the fingers.
  8. This probably wasn't worth the effort since my camera doesn't provide very high resolution and the cat knocked all the books down after I set them up. But here is a first attempt. There are a few cover reprints in the batch but still working on filling the holes. For you Batman fans. bb
  9. That's an underrated Hollingsworth cover. (thumbs u That issue also had a Black Death story which I saved for my Comics and the Microbial World article. Art by Keifer I think.
  10. I believe that is one of the sexiest pulp covers that I have ever seen. It must be hoarded by collectors since I have never seen it before. I am sure you only purchased it because of the Halloween theme. bb
  11. On my one and only trip to Paris I decided to skip the Louvre for lack of time, but really enjoyed having more time to spend in the wonderful Musée d'Orsay. I did zip quickly through Notre Dame, but that was so I could spend more time in the smaller but (in my opinion) more intense Sainte-Chapelle. (I've got to get back!) Thanks for the link -- interesting article. I suppose the comic-book equivalent is looking only at covers. Jack I have had a couple of chances to visit Paris but found other things that interested me more while in Europe. However, while I was in Belgium, I found that the art museum in Brussels is very nice. It wasn't crowded and they had a nice display with easy access. You start at the top, which is ground level and then you go down into the basement, like the Guggenheim. It was a great place to visit. Now if I could only find a some place that made good waffles... bb
  12. Bon Jour! Not a very nice review. They like him better in Belgium I bet.
  13. I am always fascinated by the Rick Evans graphics. It has an odd touch.
  14. And this guy from Blue Beetle was a really mad scientist.
  15. Dr. M was having a good day in the lab until the guy with the green suit showed up. Dr. M aka bb Scan from GA.UK
  16. I double checked, and found out I lied before. I need a 52, too. I am filled with shame. #52 comin' right up! Nice "Vikings from Outer Space" cover. Always thought of this guy as a Proto-Asgardian Love that cover. I like this Strange Tales cover too.
  17. Nice looking book. Is it a British counterpart to a book released here in the states? The Mickey BB BLB published by Dean seems to have US material but some of the jokes and poems have been changed to be more British. I don't have the other BLB BB books and can't compare. I do have a couple of months worth of Mickey Mouse Daily strips from 1943 that have the pirate story with Peg Leg Pete. I don'tknow if this is the same as the Big Big Book. Does anyone have a copy? bb
  18. This early strip by Crane was from 1943 but by 1944 the strip was signed by Turner. I don't see much of a change. Does that mean Turner was ghosting the strip in 1943? It is raining in NY and this seems like an appropriate strip for the day. The original was on pink paper and glued into a scrap book. I thought it would be more manly in black and white. The Jumbo comics were printed on similar paper. Did Stars and Strips publish a weekly comic or is this from the Reading Union papers?
  19. I usually took the money from Mom and purchased comics books. One dollar purchased 8 comics.
  20. Is the top page by Briefer? That Hangman splash page is terrific! I don't think the cartoon is by Briefer and I don't remember any work that he did for Quality. It could be by Cole. He did a lot of one page filler strips and he worked for Quality. (The Whose Who also lists the feature by Cole) The turned up nose is a Frankenstein feature though...
  21. Those early Air Fighter comics were terrific. They also had lots of Fuje art. bb
  22. My copy was used as a giveaway by a store in Baltimore. Nice book. It is Feature Book number 1 but there was a previous issue with no number. bb
