  1. Speaking of Hangman, someone recently posted these early strips by his original artist, George Storm. And this early Caniff cartoon was cute. These scans and those above, were all from GA.UK.
  2. I have been trying to buy more MLJ books and early Quality but not too successful. However, I found a few more laboratory scans to throw in the mix. Love those mad scientists but most of the crazy ones I knew were trying to get out of the lab and take credit for other peoples work. Making a monster in Monster. Cooper knew how to draw crazy. Good thing we had Mr. Justice to fix all of those evil scientists. Something useful invented by a hard working chemist. It seemed like a good idea at the time. My life was about the same. I did buy a beat up Hangman 2 but it is missing this splash page. The Swastika guy has a nice hat but how can he see?
  3. Sweet! I like seeing these classic women, without the familiar background imagery of the comic. I always thought they were great pin-up girls. I once created a high quality reproduction of the classic Phantom Lady 17 cover. Then I illustrated a few paste-overs showing (ahem...) alternate versions of what her costume looked like beneath her utility belt. Wish I still had that... It's interesting that Phantom Lady 16 is the only issue in which the title character is not featured prominently on the cover. (Who IS that sultry blonde in the alluring negligee...) I have one more request to make... Blue Beetle 54. (BOTH girls.) We got paper dolls and coloring books. Now we need to get a DC Phantom Lady movie. I colored the splash page with color from the cover after joining in Photoshop. I can post again if you want to color your own page.
  4. This is a nice book published by Dean in England. It is similar to the BLB Big Big books published by Whitman but I always get a little sad when I see it was signed and dated 1939, just before the German Blitz and bombing of England. Are these more rare than the American books? I have an English Hulk annual too, which has early Hulk, Spiderman and FF stories.
  5. BB, thanks for the latest batch of scans. You're always posting pages that I find so intriguing I'm forced to run over to the goldenagecomics.uk website or to search out issues in my collection to satisfy my curiosity about the rest of the story. (thumbs u I think the Firefly story was from Top Notch 11, which I recently purchased, but I used the GA.UK scan. I would have to go back and locate the other two. It is more difficult to find good scans of Timely issues but I have a coverless copy of Cap 13 which has the Dr. Sinn story. I often get lost in the stories and forget what came from where. Lately they have posted a lot of Ace books on GA.UK which are worth looking at. I saw one issue with Palais stories and Fuje art (Super Mystery v4 n5?). It looked great. bb
  6. I like these early WDCS covers and my Starbucks in the morning!
  7. Need a cover for Captain America 13 (But I threw in a scan below to add a little color). I could also use the cover to Marvel Mystery 30 which had a similar theme. Hangman 2 and Jackpot 2, Top-Notch 11 and 12 Add Batman 8 to the need covers group and Mystery in Space 2 to the need coverless copy group. Also need a cover for Batman 19 but a good scan would do for now.
  8. "Son of the Sun" "Son of the Sun" is One of my favorites too. Rosa and Byrne kept me laughing and google eyed when I couldn't afford to buy golden age.
  9. I liked this Stan Lee story about science or was it magic? Dr. Sinn? I think I worked for him or was it a her? Harley was a chemist and he was one of the good guys. And who knows where Uno will turn up? And what is that Nazi thing that he is playing with? Now that's entertainment.
  10. The Clock and the Asp used to fight it out. This guy might fit into the Mad Scientist category.
  11. Sorry for the double post. The original scan was too small to be appreciated I think. I'll take it off if the consensus says so. bb
  12. Nice Kane art on the first one, and one of the all-time great washtones on the second one. Thanks. Are the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Yankees playing baseball in Columbus tonight? I know the pitching coach and his wife.
  13. I was going to post these on the thread with the Unexpected 12 centers but noticed the cover price was a little lower. I picked up one of them for less but glad to have both.
  14. I like those Strange Adventure covers. This one reminds me of the Green Lantern Showcase 24. I like this cover but I purchased it for the Atomic Knights story.
  15. (thumbs u ....Jennifer Conolly... JC is nothing but class. I bought a copy of the old Hulk movie so I could hear her say my name. bb
  16. T Sometimes they used more than one snake. Loved the "Snakes on a Plane" movie by the way. I knew a herpetologist who worked at the Houston zoo in the eighties. He used to keep hundreds of snakes at his home. They were his babies. bb
  17. And did you ever dig out those old Big Little Books that are stored in the garage?
  18. BZ, How do you find all of those nice copies of pulps? Most of those that I see are yellowed and beat up. I still like some of them though.
  19. Cool cover! Love those 10 cent Tomahawks, not that I see them much. Women were tough in those 10 cent comics.
  20. I still have my original collection of Dr. Solar and Magnus. Somehow they survived my little brother and all of the notorious dealers that went through my collection in Toledo and Houston.
  21. i think my other favorite theme is space opera
  22. I liked some of these early pulps. I don't know what the scientists were doing but they had some complex toys. I liked this secret formula cover. Threatening with an evil formulation in a test tube worked sometimes. Sometimes they used a complicated device to hack someone up. And sometimes the old reliable poisonous snake was used.
  23. Spy Smasher had to deal with scientists (mad or not) from all time.
