  1. I got a chuckle out of this guy. Jack can use this for his lecture this fall. Marv Lev was quite a talent.
  2. Here is a pus sy scan. She was a superhero and a torch singer. Kind of a Blonde Phantom or Miss American in cat form. I like it, esp. the bottom tier. Is this from GoldenAgeComics.uk? Scrooge (way behind updating his downloads ...) I tried to find a Katnip scan in the GA.UK Fox files but couldn't. Both the Book of All-Comics scan and the Katnip scan were made by me. It is a little difficult to scan the Katnip story because the issue is square bound and the story is at the end of the issue. The bit at the bottom reveals where she gets her powers. I also have the All-Top giant issue. bb
  3. Here is a pus sy scan. She was a superhero and a torch singer. Kind of a Blonde Phantom or Miss American in cat form.
  4. Patenaude also did this Eagle cover. Nice work. She seemed to specialize in covers but she did work on the Blue Beetle strip as well. I wonder if Briefer did any work on the Blue Beetle. He seemed to work on a lot of things and I really like his Rex Dexter strip. Pierce Rice was given credit for this strip by JVJ. Seems like a good call. Can someone translate this message or do I need an Eagle decoder.
  5. I really like the Kenton of the Star Patrol series. Kubert's art seems clean and dynamic. Lots of action and good looking dames. What's not to like. bb
  6. I enjoyed seeing pictures of all of those comic fans. I met Jerry and Roy but only talked on the phone with Howard Keltner. I also saw Grass at a Wizard show in Philadelphia. He was drawing, chatting and signing autographs for a small group of fans. I wish I had something with me at the time. He seemed like a good guy. I really liked his cartoons. He was very funny and creative. bb
  7. I missed this story the first time around I think, but it should be titled "Phantom Lady of the Opera"
  8. Thanks BZ. I like all of those old fanzines. I forgot to post this one I think.
  9. That's the thing that has had me going about the comments on Forrest while Calkins gets a free pass art-wise? Granted, I recently saw some later Calkins Sundays with Buddy and Allura and comparing them with earlier pages when Buddy first meets Allura, it's like night and day. Wonder if it was a natural evolution of Calkins or if it's simply the heavy use of ghosts. I don't know enough about the strip to be sure. I think everyone falls short when compared to Alex Raymond but the difference in style seems to enhance some of the stories, e.g., Calkin's bizarre ray guns and space ships, Crane's shadows and depth, Foster's detail.
  10. I was wondering if Calkins art was also considered less than adequate by comic reviewers? And is this the Buck Rogers Star Map that was given away as a radio premium?
  11. Another giant size book with a Stoner cover and lots of Stoner on the inside, I think.
  12. And I was suprised to see her swinging through the pages of an Avon book. Scans from GA.UK
  13. But Hollingsworth signed this Saint strip and his style is different from the work on the Puppeteer. He didn't sign this other strip but it looks like his art.
  14. And this Puppeteer story looks like Stoner's work. The story is signed by Alec Hope which was supposed to be a Hollingsworth alias.
  15. I think Stoner may have worked on the Rocket Kelly covers too.
  16. I imagine Baker and Whitman and a few other members of the staff enjoyed using Dr. Wertham as the villian in this Camilla story from Jungle 104. Fortunately the editor probably saved them from a lawsuit by removing the blood and torn flesh from the end of the story. I added the color back to the final panels. Scans from GA.UK
  17. Someone was nice enough to scan Jungle 98 and I saw this "Seduction of the Innocent" panel in context for the first time. Illustration was by Whitman who is a fan favorite. I am not sure why they focused on the imaginary buttocks on Tabu's shoulder and completely ignored the nearly nude Camilla. Psychiatrists, who can figure them out? I like Whitman's splash of belle Zazenda.
  18. My Tailspin Tommy books are hidden in the archives and I need to rediscover them, but the Tim Tyler Saalfield book was lying on top of the pile. I like Lyman Young's work. I guess he occasionally had other newbies work on the strip, like Alex Raymond. Here are a couple of Saalfield covers in the long format and a page from TT.
  19. These are two of my favorites. They were stuck in a cedar chest when I went away to college and not returned to me until 1980.
  20. Just catching up on the thread. I spend most of my time collecting golden age. I have a lot of Sgt Rock covers but I could use this one. Nice.
  21. I have a bunch of these that I purchased from the Rexall drug store back in the sixties too (including this one). Kubert was my favorite artist at the time. My buddy George joined the Navy and I went into ROTC in 1965. Fortunately I dropped out in 1966. But George re-enlisted in 1969 and stayed in until he retired.. bb
  22. I have a large lot of Our Army at War comics that I purchased back in the sixties. bb
  23. And a special scan for the 4th of July. Minute Man knew how to celebrate. Fawcett superheroes were classy compared to Fox and Timely but not as popular to collect these days. People don't remember these guys but perhaps DC should bring some of them back again. Original scan by Marble River and cleaned up a bit with photoshop.
  24. Love this Luthor cover too but maybe I got this ad mixed up with one of the other fanzines. Fans may have thought that things were complicated by the OSPG but it helped provide information about the hobby and stabilize prices. Well maybe not that stable 30 years ago. bb
