  1. Oops, that should have said Fantastic 5 which I never thought looked like a Fine cover. bb
  2. Ramona did this cover too. She signed her whole last name. It looks like Japs, knives, bondage and oil cans "Down by the Old Mill Stream". More Ramona data. Her work on that Blue Beetle cover reminds me of the Boy Commandos covers that were done while Jack was in a muddy foxhole. 3. Stoner did some interesting work for Popular and The Funnies. I like the Gang Busters cover. The Phantasmo cover reminds me of Fantastic 4 I think. bb
  4. Cover art was attributed to Cataldo due to the AC initials on the tree. But looks like Moreira, at least his inks. What do you think? Did Buscema do covers for Crown. This reminds me of Conan. OK, these are not romance comics and they are not by Baker, but it is his character which underwent a metamorphosis and turned into someone else. There were a lot of interesting editorial decisions made here.
  5. Nice edition of Dracula...is this a cover repo or the actual book? I have a couple editions of KONG with a nice repo cover...I have yet to see an original cover in such nice condition. Bill The dust jacket is original. The book was one of many obtained from an original owner collection which also included these Burroughs books and hundreds of pulp magazines. I found a bunch of those ERB volumes at a book store in Mullica Hill, NJ but the owner refused to sell them to me. They went on ebay instead. Another collector picked up the fanzine collection for a song. I ended up with a few Spirit pages and an ad for Alan Light's reprints.
  6. beat up but cover is complete. mostly jo jo stories i think. bb
  7. This is a new scan but I have had the book for a while. Does anyone know who the artist is? Tuska did at least one of the inside stories. What about the others? I like the pretty colors.
  8. I like those G and D editions. The type is big enough for me to read. I like the Burt editions too although my copies are only Tarzan stories. By the way, did you get the cotton candy off your shoes and the straw out of your hair? Circus life can be hard. Great Toby Tyler edition BZ. (Mr. Door Tree is always posting nifty dust covers. Check him out if you haven't been there and you are missing BZ's scans. He is featuring some of my favorite Mystery in Space covers this month.)
  9. I noticed this GIF somewhere. I guess they are doing a remake of Star Wars. Help, Help, Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope (Just noticed that Hammer was posted by Comix4fun.) Sorry about the lift but it seemed robot related at the time.
  10. New Fun #6 The Unofficial Guide to the DC Universe website offers the following info: New Fun Comics #6 (October 1935): [The Vampire Master: Part 1] More Fun Comics #7 (January 1936): [The Vampire Master: Part 2] More Fun Comics #8 (February 1936): [The Vampire Master: Part 3] More Fun Comics #9 (March-April 1936): [The Vampire Master: Part 4] I'm guessing that the above stories were probably among the earliest comic books published with a vampire storyline. Read all about Doctor Occult: Link According to JGB's Whose who, Shuster's influences were Roy Crane; Alex Raymond; Milt Caniff. I guess his style looks more like Crane which Scrooge pointed out, but these other guys influenced perspectives, backgrounds and story telling. Or maybe Shuster just enjoyed reading work by Raymond and Caniff or looking at the pictures. I know I do. bb
  11. Good job! That is probably the best cover in the series and seldom goes for guide. It also has that terrific Walter Johnson splash panel. bb
  12. Maybe if we close our eyes and clap our hands as loud as we can, BZ will come back. Or we can post nifty giant robot covers until BZ comes back out of the archives with another pile of musty old (BZ usually finds pristine) paper collectors items. I cleaned this scan up a bit. It was from GA.UK I usually figure things out after I have seen them three or four times. There is probably a lot of information about Richard Sprangs early work but I didn't remember that he did Power Nelson. I thought the robot cover might be by Richard Briefer since he also did work published in Prize. However, Richard Sprang seems a likely artist since he was responsible for the early Power Nelson stories. Nifty stuff. Both of them are favorites. And we need to see more. bb
  13. I guess I have liked robots since I first saw Robby. Or maybe it was Anne Francis that I liked?

  15. last sighting was more than a month ago I think Bang Zoom aka Toby Tyler ran away with the circus. bb I loved Toby Tyler! Nice reference, BB. BZ is a big cirus fan. I guessed that he is working as the ring master for the Zumbini Circus or some related job. bb I liked these collectible Toby items too.
  16. last sighting was more than a month ago I think Bang Zoom aka Toby Tyler ran away with the circus. bb
  17. What are the insides like? Are they as cool inside as out? I think the Crime Does Not Pay issues had lots of great art by Biro, Briefer, Mandel, Montana and Palais. Here are a few examples from CDNP 22 and 37. On the Palisades I think.
  18. Another Texas Trio publication added to my collection. Cover by Buddy Saunders
  19. I admire a lot of art that is found in the early Fawcett comics. This Rocket Car from Master Comics reminds me of early Timely work. Is there a more similar cover than this? The Wizard also had a cool car.
  20. In regards to the Cap 36 cover, I think the key bad guys in the back seat are Goering, Hitler and Goebbels. It would make sense to have a body guard or someone like Himmler in the car but he would be in a black SS suit and he had a mustache. bb
  21. I started collecting Supersnipe after I read an article about him in All in Color for a Dime or the Comic Book. I think Don Thompson's book had a reproduction of one of the covers. I have found those early covers are difficult to find but I have bought some later copies that are fun. I picked up this scarce copy of V2#1 when I was attending a convention in San Francisco. Comic Relief was the shop I think. The rest of the copies were picked up from a dealer in Michigan. He offered me some pretty good deals for the Shadow, Doc and Supersnipe. I don't have this one but still looking.
  22. Dwight, Love the ticket to see the show in NYC. I heard they did a nice performance for those lucky enough to attend. bb
  23. Ramona did this cover too. She signed her whole last name. It looks like Japs, knives, bondage and oil cans "Down by the Old Mill Stream".
  24. Perhaps that was by Sid Lazurus, who did Ali Baba, with Altman. The contorted arm was probably by a different artist from Altman or Stoner. Stoner did those elongated poses and slightly goofy faces for the Bouncer and Phantasmo, as well as, Blue Beetle. I am still trying to figure out which cover or strip was done by Murphy Anderson. Maybe he can give us a hint. I asked him a while back about his first strip and I remember he mentioned a Milkman or farm ad and not Blue Beetle. Thanks for the ideas. I can understand why no one is rushing forward to claim credit. Jack You can complain about the cover which may be by Brodsky and Lazurus but the interior art looks pretty good. Crime Report splash looks like Eisner but is attributed to Allen Ulmer.
  25. Elisha Cook played the role of Wilmer Cook in MF. He also appeared in Superman and Star Trek. Amazing range of parts for the little guy. He was never the star but was always in there banging away at his craft.
