  1. Comics from the romance box. The Baker romance covers stack up pretty good compared to other genre. I never owned several of these but I did have some extra scans.
  2. it's just so damn golden-agey. My stupid scanner can't do justice to the colors at the top. As you know, the book has to be held to be truly appreciated. here's Ritter's scan. It is too dark, mine is to light. The books is actually somewhere in the middle Here is my copy which I purchased on ebay several years ago. It hasn't escaped from its plastic case. It never had one. I bet they don't sell as cheaply these days. They are pretty good items to collect. All of the titles look good except for Green Mask. The funky artwork has a charm and the creativity of the stories attracts attention.
  3. I think that WDCS 127 was also my first purchase when I started collecting again in the 70s. I purchased it in Houston at one of the comic book and sci fi conventions. I purchased a lots of Four Colors after that but there were always bargain copies of WDCS to be found and some great stories. High grade was a little tougher to find. I was going to post my copy but that may be the one in the GCD. I don't recognize it for sure but a lot of my Uncle Scrooge copies are in there. bb
  4. I believe this is the last cover needed to complete the St. John romance section on GCD. It's a hard one to come by. I believe that Baker used Katherine Hepburn as a model reference on this one. I plugged the cover into GCD. I think it went in. The list seems to be complete now but they still need a few upgrades. Are all of the other St. Johns Romance comics covers complete and Authentice Police case? bb
  5. More Baker romance on ebay. Not my copy but I like the cover. bb
  6. Those floppy ears remind me a little of the Fox. But the Fox always looked a little better when done by Montana. I wonder what he would have done on Batman. Note how he did facial expressions in spite of the mask. bb Thanks for the scans. What title is the Fox from? The Fox was in Blue Ribbon. He was drawn by Irwin Hasen, King and Montana at different times. But I especially like how Montana's style worked on the character. He added a lot of depth to the drawings and the shading was used very well. Kind of a rounded softer version of Raymond. bb
  7. And another splash that was identified as Baker's work.
  8. Last one! Excuse me for putting TOGS on the Timely Thread. Just for comparison you know. bb

  10. There aren't enough Miss Fury issues and she didn't wear her costume in a lot of the stories (regular street clothes instead for those that wondered). She was similar to a character in All New called the Black Orchid and a little like the Black Angel too.
  11. I forgot to mention that the scan was from Atlas Tales. They have several by Baker but this one really looks like his work. I had to shrink the scan down quite a bit in order to post it here. It is probaly still too large. As my friend used to say "Where is the Chick?" but it is a good splash. bb
  12. Here is an Atlas western by Baker. b
  13. Shiverbones, Love the interior art with those Barks stories. By the way is this your cat? I thought you were using it as a model. bb Photo from Alan Light. I forgot to mention that. bb
  14. That seems so strange, it must be real. What did Orsin think of Matt's work? Were there any other comments??? Sounds like we are left with a lot of mysteries. bb Apparently Matt did some nice work on westerns for Atlas. Does anyone have any covers?

  16. I have never seen the Paul recreations. I am only referring to the ad that appeared in back issues of SF magazines. bb
  17. Wow, I never knew Moreira did Tarzan. I cant get enough of his 50's DC science-fiction art...I would love to see more of his 40s stuff! Bill I like Moreira's work on Tarzan. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of his strips. I purchased the Sunday Funnies for the Superman and Hogarth Tarzan strips. They are also difficult to scan especially on my new more compact scanner. Perhaps if I get a new digital camera, I can photograph all of the Sunday pages. The Flash Gordon strips are worth seeing. Speaking of science fiction, I have a lot more MacRaboy Flash Gordon strips which haven't been scanned. He was my favorite as a child (and Kirby). bb
  18. IMHO It doesn't look like Baker to me. Did he ever work for Avon? bb
  19. According to the Frank R. Paul site, Forry had innumerable "meticulously painted recreations of FRP's covers done by a fan named Anton Brzezinski." I don't think these are considered fake but just recreations. Paul also sold recreations that were made while they were still publishing those early covers. Are those for sale and what was the quality? just wondering. bb
  20. that photo is soooo misleading you have no idea. I remember seeing that wall the times when I was at Forry's house and I can tell youthat they aren't all (most actually) real!! Forry may or may not have owned the particular paintings shown. In some cases, he did indeed own the painting, and over the years as they would be sold, he had a friend recreate the painting so he wouldn't have an empty space. In other cases, if he liked the painting and did not own it, he had that one recreated too. there was also a "half wall" in teh basement that was covered with b&w Virgil Finlay illustrations. Darn things were pasted to the wall.. I remember having to remove one that was sold to a pal at the time and almost destroyed the piece taking it off the wall.. Who did the recreations? If they are done well then they would still be valuable. And I like the other Paul painting too. What happened to that? The other paintings wouldn't be "fakes" if they were identified as recreations. Some board members have rooms filled with those things. bb
  21. Will you now share the secret of page 11? Great books! Does this help? I still don't know the secret. Good story tho. bb
  22. I noticed that Alan Light had a lot of interesting photographs available that might be of interest to comic and sci fi collectors. Recently there was a discussion of the Ackermansion on this thread. Alan had some interesting pictures. One of his photos was used as the cover for Movie Collectors World. The other photo that interested me was the one of the paintings that Forrest had on the wall. Did these sell when he moved? I like this Paul cover very much. And Isn't that a St. John ERB cover back in the corner? Good photographic eye Alan and thanks again for making these photos available. bb
  23. The tape pull is a little easier to see in this scan than it was in the little ebay photo.
