  1. And it may be difficult to find the correct size. Thanks for the GIF Flea!
  2. While I don't have an answer to that I just noticed that the translated French version of this story has appeared under no fewer than 4 different names!! Donald au pays des œufs carrés Donald et le mystère des œufs cubiques Un poulailler au cœur des Andes Perdus dans les Andes ! [Translated to: Donald in the country of square eggs. Donald and the mystery of cubic eggs. A hen house in the middle of the Andes. Lost in the Andes!] I pulled the 1999 reprint in Picsou 330 and here's the corresponding page (notice it is not reversed) and the "square guy" sings the French version of Old McDonald. Otherwise, the translator used a lot of ellisions in the text to mimick a Southern accent - Panel 5 translates to "These guys speak our language! God knows how they learned. But it will help us!" No mention of "pure cornpone" accents, I guess there was no equivalent. Or perhaps they translated from the Flemish version. The Arabic is reversed because they read right to left I guess. bb The Chinese version of the above quote is " 这些人讲我们的语言! 上帝知道他们怎么学会了。 但是它将帮助我们! "
  3. Awesome book Tranny I'm not sure this is the cool nickname I was going for. I guess the name stays then. It looks good on the inside too. bb
  4. I found this on line and made a copy because I thought the art looked good. How does the southern accent translate in Arabic? Isn't the square guy singing Dixie? For that matter, I don't know how the accent translates in Flemish or German either. Perhaps Rosa knows? bb
  5. When I was younger, I liked the Ironjaw and he might have been my favorite but I had never seen an early Claw story at that time. I had a copy of this for forty years but I think I sold it to Dave Reynolds. This is a scan from someone on the boards.
  6. This was a pretty impressive cover. I think this scan was from ebay but it could have been posted on the Timely thread. bb
  7. Luthor got top billing sometimes. bb
  8. And Mars was hanging around for most of the Planet run.
  9. Another villian that lasted a long time was Superman's nemesis, Mr. Mxyztplk. Although I was more partial to Luthor. \ OK, I found the Dr. Drool while looking for a Luthor cover and a Claw splash.
  10. The dictator existed in several different forms. Madam Satan combined sex and really evil. Dr. Horror's appearance may have been brief but I liked him and Dr. Drool (from The Flame). bb
  11. I liked Mr. Mind a lot and Capt. Nazi, both were in multi-issue stories. Here is a Mr. Mind size splash of the first story. He later joined with Hitler and others to attempt world domination. I like all of Batman's villians, Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Scarecrow and Penguin. Sub-Mariner made a good villian but the Red Skull has to be the most impressive Timely villian. The Claw was probably the best villian when he was drawn by Cole. bb
  12. I like this splash but I don't think it had anything to do with the cover. (I could use a cover for MM 30 by the way.) Wouldn't it fit better with HT 23 cover? I have to go back and read those issues again. bb Speaking of robots, I hope to see this guy a little better in the new movie (next summer?).
  13. The cover is torn on this copy and I think it would be a good candidate for restoration. What do you think? bb If you look closely you can see that there is a tear down the middle of the cover which has been repaired with photoshop. No tape and the spine is still good. I imagine that two guys were fighting over it and tore the cover. Or Mom tried to tear it in half before throwing it away.
  14. I bought this from Ernest Toth on my birthday several years ago. It has tape along the edge and I have trimmed the photo a little but I like the cover a lot. I noticed recently that there is another story that features that strange submarine in another MM issue. I guess they had a little problem coordinating the covers and stories. This seems to happen a lot with Golden Age comics. bb Interior scans from issue 22 by unknown scanner.
  15. I'd love to read that. I'll give you $10 so you can double your money quickly. Nice book. The handbook is great with nice ads and cap marvel reprints.
  16. All of my Foxy Grandpa covers are too large to fit on my scanner. They are often cut up and used as individual strips in a new frame. The same thing happens to Gibson books. Gibson was a terrific cartoonist and the art was sometimes sequential (such as his baseball game series which predates Mutt and Jeff). Why isn't the Adventures of Mickey Mouse listed in Platinum Age instead of regular listings? And are these other books listed anywhere? bb None of these books are in a comic format but the first is listed in the guide but the others are not I think.
  17. This copy of Cowboy Out Our Way should be listed in the Platinum Age section of the price guide. But this Kids Out Our Way was reprinted many times and this printing was from the Golden Age I think.
  18. nice book...why are you done collecting?...school?...economics?...passion?... Well if you don't like that Thing 12 then how much do you want for it. I could use and upgrade. Are the pages white? Restoration? bb OW/W pages, no resto. Deslabbed 5.0. I'd sell it for $500 shipped if you pay by check, which is basically what I paid. Shoot me a PM if you want it. Sorry I missed out. I will have to keep my copy which has a name written on it. I removed the the name electonically but your copy seems to have brighter colors. bb

  20. I am sure that Lem sold me this Kid comic. Perhaps I got the Young Allies from Wally who bought it from Lem or vice versa. bb
  21. I thought this was an interesting splash by Fuje. bb From Pep 35, scans by Shield probably.
  22. Perhaps I can have a brain transplant. Uhmm? Too messy. bb
  23. I spend a lot of time sorting through and repacking my collection these days. I wish I could say that I spend my evenings dreaming about her but at least I can still sleep at night. I miss the lab. and discussing research with my associates. The company Christmas party was fun. Things changed a lot when new people arrived. I guess I can just stay home and play with the cats for a while. bb
