  1. I could use a cover to Terrytoons 1. Anyone got an extra? bb
  2. As BZ mentioned before, Mandrake by Phil Davis was very impressive. This page from King comics depicts Mandrake's version of travel in outer space. I would think that you would have to approach the speed of light to see yourself coming back. If I remember correctly the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. They were still going too slow if you assume their speedometer was correct. Pretty good speedometer too. My Honda has a digital read out but I don't think it goes up to a million miles per hour. bb
  3. Here is another Circus Comic for BZ. Micky Dolenz is on the cover riding an elephant which he probably didn't do as a Monkee. The story features characters from the TV show that were played by Robert Lowery (Batman) and Noah Berry Jr. (Rocky). Noah was a great character actor. I enjoyed his work in Red River, Sgt. York and the Rockford Files. The series also featured Guinn Williams and Billy Barty. bb
  4. Did anyone else go to Duckburg at Disney World in Orlando? I had to have my picture taken with Donald, the nephews and AJ. I think only a duck fan could appreciate this Kodak moment from 1995 or so. bb
  5. I only have part of this cover but I always thought it was gruesome. Perhaps they were politically incorrect here but the Vale Crab seems pretty hideous too. Back cover looks pretty good and Senorita Rio's back is only partially covered.
  6. Is this by Kubert or Heath? I thought Kubert but after looking closely I wonder whether it was. bb
  7. Jack, The anti-smoking story was from Animal 22 that was recently made available to me as scans by someone else. It seemed related to the two smoking comments that appeared on the thread. I think TBH fixed the dialogue from the thread so that the quotes made more since. I skipped 4 or 5 pages from the middle of the story. Pogo wouldn't play a trick on Albert like that without a reason (most of the story was about how they convinced him to wear the dress and not stealing the cigars) but I just kept the relevant to the thread portion. All of those stories are pretty good so pick some up if you get a chance. There is also a terrific fish story in one of the later issues of Animal comics. I also have many of the Pogo issues including the giant. My best recollections of Kelly were from election time and the sixties. His LBJ character was hilarious. I think Overstreet mentions that the stories in Animal are by Kelly but art is by Dan Noonan. I didn't check the GCD to see if this is correct. There is another story in Animal 9 where Albert smokes a window shade. Refined taste. bb
  8. When Albert's friends try to convince him to stop smoking, they get Pogo to dress up as a hot babe from Baton Rouge. It doesn't exactly work since he wasn't as dumb as they thought. Here is the edited version...
  9. Jack asked if I had a story with Lois smoking. I didn't find anything other than her look alike, Ultra, jumping into a volcano. Heavy smokers in the series were Perry White and almost any gangster. Other heavy smokers were Jiggs and Albert the Alligator.
  10. I don't think that the early Supermen would have such a great appeal if it were done by someone other than Shuster. He had a streamlined style that oozed Sci-Fi. Other people were better artist and may have been faster but unless Alex Raymond was willing to switch to comics at the time, then I think Joe was the best.bb
  11. And were they the first to use the All Top logo (Publisher Wise) that was used by Fox for the Phantom Lady and other Fox All Stars? bb
  12. I think V-man is similar to Captain V who also came back as the Puppeteer. The art was not as good in the revivals. These characters may all be related but they are not related to Doc V who is a DDS and the Timely/Atlas expert. bb
  13. I couldn't find any issues with Lois smoking . I checked sup 1 action 17, 21, 30 and etc. That is far from a complete check but there were a lot of people smoking in those early issues of Superman especially Perry White. Perhaps Lois dipped snuff or chewed.I did find another nice scan which I took from Action 80. bbMr. Mxyztplk also added the original sixties price.
  14. V man seemed a little gruesome and the Banshee looked like a cool strip. bb And Nagana had some cool headgear. bb Unfortunately these strips didn't last very long but they gave it a good shot while they were out there.
  15. BZ, Thanks for a glimpse of the giant robot panels. I liked the robot but I think Shuster could have done better. I wonder why DC chose to separate the talents of Jerry and Joe? Any logic in breaking up the team which was so successful in producing Superman. Joe had his hands full with the Superman comic and the newspaper comics but by this time he had a lot of people producing the art and didn't need to do it himself. I guess they had already started working separately when the Spectre appeared and DC was going to continue to milk what they could out of Siegel. bb
  16. BZ, I saw your splash and I went looking for old Superman stories in the Golden Age boxes. I found this splash in Action 40 but then I noticed that we missed someone's birthday last week. Happy 67th Birthday Star-Spangled Kid. He is even older than me. bb
  17. Was this an early response to Wertham's critic of comics? bb
  18. BZ, Those are fantastic books. Thanks for the information about the continuity too. All I can show is a few books from my Mickey Mouse collection. bb
  19. That is a great St. John cover and I guess it is for the Otis Kline story. What is the story on Otis Kline? Was he before or after ERB or a competitor? I haven't read his stories yet and I don't think I have a complete one but they look pretty good based on the covers and titles. bb
  20. And what about a scan from Daring Love. The first Ditko splash. bb
  21. There are a few other magazines in the over size box. bb
  22. Rocket Blast's Comicollect had also improved its appearance by issues 57 and 58. bb
  23. I scanned a few more Fanzines that were in the oversize box. The quality of the reproduction was much better than earlier fanzines. bb The inside back cover and outside back cover of SS 6 had pictures of comic fans around the country.
