  1. Jack, I don't know if Robert read any of those old comics with Quinlan art but it looks like they had the same perspective. Thanks for the Motor City comics post. I would have to dig through my closet to find all of those old Crumb comics. Did Crumb actually live in Detroit? I thought he was Cleveland or CA (according to my R. Crumb Handbook). bb
  2. Sky, Miss Fury spent a lot of time kicking people in the teeth and changing costumes. Glad you enjoyed them. I kind of liked the paper Tippy-Toys that Fawcett sold. Here is one with Billy the Kid reading a Capt. Marvel Comic. bb P.S. Go Blue
  3. Jack, I used to think that Miss America wore glasses when she was in costume. It makes sense to wear some eye protection when you are working. But the glasses seem to disappear in some other appearances. bb
  4. Miss Victory was reprinted as a Holyoke one shot. She usually appeared in Capt. Aero. I kind of like Quinlan's style on this strip. It always reminds me of Robert Crumb. I think he did the gorilla spash too. bb
  5. Ms America was very nice. She looked good in Marvel Mystery and Sungirls as well as her own magazine. I thought she looked good in glasses. Millie got a shot as a superheroine too. At least she posed as the Blonde Phantom in issue 2. But these is nothing like a Schomburg cover to add a little color. bb
  6. Someone has already shown the Ms Victory splash from Capt Aero 7 but I think this one from Capt. Aero 15 is worth showing. And a Miss Fury pinup to add to the mix. bb
  7. I also found a copy of this interesting Cap Jr. cover. A little cold war politics perhaps. bb
  8. Jack, Carbon atoms were being smashed in the story. Since carbon is the backbone of life, destroying those atoms would destroy another universe (the subatomic one). Our universe (or the Capt. Marvel universe) was also being destroyed by another "mad" scientist who was smashing atoms. I don't explain 'em. I just read 'em. bb
  9. Jack, The Atom story is from the Daisy Handbook. Unfortunately I didn't read the story carefully and I can't tell you which atom they were traveling in. I will dig it back out again and find the answer. BB
  10. BZ, I found a few interesting items while searching through my box of premiums. bb Not only are the stories a mix from different companies but they didn't just sell bb-guns (as every fan knows). And I found an item for Jack.
  11. BZ, Love the Dr. D covers. I am very fond of mad scientist stories. I particularly like scientist with robots or just robots alone from the planet Mars. By the way I had a Wings issue to add to the collection you showed a few weeks ago too. The skull staring over the pilots shoulder seems rather heart warming. bm
  12. This robot splash has the special ACG 3-D effect. It works for this story but not some of the others. (scan from Goldenage.UK) bb
  13. BZ, I love seeing those golden age robots. I found this cool robot in an unlikely comic. BB
  14. BZ, I noticed the Goldenagecomics.blogspot had a special program on Santa Claus funnies and Rudolph. I have some problems with my sound system and usually record their show on a CD and play it back but they have been fun to listen to. bb INFORMATION COPIED BELOW: Golden Age of Comics Books - December 23, 2007 - #55 In this episode of the Golden Age of Comic Books, we feature Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! Each had their own titles that ran for many years (until the 1960's) starting in the Golden Age of Comics. Santa Claus Funnies was published by Dell, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was published by DC Comics. I hope you enjoy this Christmas fun from the Golden Age! Golden Age of Comic Books Podcast #55 (Standard MP3 - 22:32 - 10.5 MB) posted by Golden Age Comics at 7:59 PM
  15. My copy of Donald Duck from 1936 looks pretty good but it is too large for the scanner. The dust cover has protected it all of these years. Unfortunately a near mint dust cover may be worth more than the book. BB
  16. Flee, Thanks for working on the Lulu cover. It looks great. I had a few other left over Chrismas covers in my golden age box. I don't know if anyone posted the LB Cole Night Before Christmas cover or the first issue of Walt Kelly's Christmas with Mother Goose. But they deserve another look anyway and I hope you all have a Happy New Year. And to get the year started (a little early) with a bang. How about some Capt. Marvel Jr.? Issue 4 had an exciting cover. bb
  17. BZ, I noticed my copy of Pogo was from Washington, D.C. and had a big stamp on the back. Maybe the distributor was in the habit of stamping different locations. Maybe there is no connection since there were so many years between the Pogo and your early MLJ, DC and other stuff. Just a thought. bb
  18. BZ, Since you are into Walt Kelly... I guess this was a Pogo Christmas. It doesn't snow very much in the swamp. It didn't snow in Philadelphia either. But Archie had snow in Riverdale (thanks Shawn for the Archie scan). It is the thought that counts and I hope you had a nice Christmas. I forgot to post my oldest Christmas comic (from 1908) bb
  19. Jack, Thanks for changing the color scheme on the Lulu cover. It makes more sense with a green dress. I checked Gerber to see how many times she changed colors and found only one alternate yellow dress (and three or four bathing suits). It would be interesting to see her closet. Probably 14 red dresses, 1 yellow dress and 200 pairs of shoes (she is a girl after all). I think someone posted this scan last year. But they were great little comics and deserve another show. bb BZ, I loved the early Comet work by Cole. I think the character could have stayed around a long time (worked in X-men). But I am happy that he worked on the Claw stories in Silver Streak and Plastic Man. Does anyone have a good quality scan of the SS7 story by Cole? Cole always had a sarcastic comment to make about any season. bb
  20. I had a few more scans available that I made earlier and I hoped someone could help me fix one of them. Lulu almost always wore a red dress but don't you think that she could have switched to green for this Christmas cover. Can someone fix that (Flee?) color arangement? Red background and Green dress perhaps?? I found a nice greeting card on the back of Bugs Bunny Christmas Parade 3. And a neat interior scan (usually requested by Jack). Merry Christmas again. Bruce And Santa makes the names rhyme. What a guy!
  21. There goes my test-tube rack! Jack, Hey, that happened to me when I heated up picric acid in qualitative organic chemistry class. But it didn't improve my eyes (fortunately wearing safety glasses). Here is a page from JJ 6. Someone elses scan. I am too lazy to scan anymore tonight I guess. bb
  22. Fun Jingle Jangle cover. Is there any Carlson in this issue? Any chance he drew a Christmas story? That would be fun to see. Jack Jack, Unfortunately Christmas is only on the cover of Jingle Jangle 36. No Pie-eyed.. oops I mean Pie-Face Prince Christmas story. It looks like Carlson art but not signed. PF is chasing a unicorn which escaped from the zoo in the story. bb
  23. I went looking for more Christmas related material in the MLJ scans (thanks Shawn) and I didn't find any. But I did find a Comet story. He wasn't Santa's reindeer but if he was with Santa, they would not have needed Rudolph. bb And don't every ask the Hangman for a Christmas present. Buy the entire MLJ collection for $99. Just click on the website. There are a lot of free comics posted on the site as well (including the rest of the Comet story). BB Almost forgot, just paste in this address: http://www.goldcomics.com/forum/
  24. BZ, Nice Captain Marvel cover. Merry Christmas from Our Gang to Your Gang. Donald and his gang say Merry Christmas and ... Happy New Year!! Christmas is near. I can hear the Jingle Jangle of Santa'a sled...almost. bb
  25. So which scan can I use? The top or the bottom one. If it is Shawn's scan then it can't be used on the board. What about the copyright? Can these pages be reproduced in another publication without a problem as long as I make the scan myself? Can pictures of Archie be reproduced and sold without having a problem with Archie, Inc.? I would like more people to see these old comics on line or in reprints but I am not sure about what we have the right to reproduce and what we do not. Enlighten me please. Bruce
