  1. That's where I may have to use my AF 15 for leverage. I suppose if you find someone who wants an AF 15... Probably easier to sell your AF 15 and use the cash to garner a deal, but you may have to pay a premium (as most do with this book). However, AF 15 is not nearly as rare as SC 4 and realistically to the collectors that want this book it may be a bit of apples and oranges. Not to say it wouldn't work, but it isn't necessarily that easy. My reco would be to find a dealer on the boards you trust and have them help you find a great copy and then pay FMV. Darn,,,that posting was a goof...my error..let me try this a again. Definitely several people have been offering to take it off my hands. Decent offers at that. I know...the Showcase crowd are usually hardcore DC and the AF 15 are usually Marvelites. However...I appreciate both. For the reasons I have the Spidey comic a marvel buff may hold an SC4. The book just fell into my lap locally...I paid a premium but had it right in my hand and realized an opportunity and scarfed it as it was a great investment. I know SC4 is more scarce for sure. I've had a few of them over the years.

  4. Holy Toledo, I sold a nice 6.0 about 10 or 12 years ago for $5000! And in 2000 I sold an awesome SC22 for $6000 was probably a 9.2 or better. Just shoot me now!!! I recall selling a Captain Action boxed Spider-Man outfit in 1992 for $1500 that I picked up in 1991 for $900. In 1995 I was offered $15k if I still had it. Who knew who knew......
  5. What should I expect to pay for a Showcase 4 in 5.0 5.5 and 6.0 today. And...are there any available? I have a coverless one that I may would sell also. Sorry I haven't read too much into this thread yet.
  6. Yes, it is pre-marvel chipping. Very common for this book and does not affect the grade at all. I think you have a shot at a 4.0 here. Just that CGC is very strict on staining so I wouldn't be surprised if it graded out as a 3.5. When did the Marvel chipping first come about? I have actually seen a few DC's that had this defect from printing.
  7. The grey sky on mine really does have a slight hint of blue. Try retaking your pics under better lighting? Seems that 7.5 should look better than that.
  8. I took my photos without flash right at my glass patio door cloudy day. Are you guys taking pics under tungsten yellowish light? Makes a difference.
  9. Now those colors pop!! Very attractive! Centering is kinda kiltered to lower left a bit...But man...no Marvel chipping. I'm jealous. Wanna trade
  10. Thanks Brannon. People keep bugging me to get it slabbed. I'm still stubborn.
  11. That's what attracted me to the book. The darn colors are so striking. I've seen much higher graded examples that look so yellowed or have soiling over the yellow title and in the gray sky background. Colors are about the brightest I've seen on one of these. The inks are so shiny which seemed unusual to me for this book. Stock paper quality was not the best on these you know. Local guys around here think it's a 4.0 or better. Comic shop owner thought it could be as high as an 5.0. I know betterin' that. Hey...as much as I paid I hope it's at least a 4.0. I'm just a stubborn hard grader. Old school before the slab days.
  12. Decided to pull (very carefully) from bag...piece still hangin' on there... Centering is pretty good top to bottom but is off to left a wee bit. Spine has a slight hint of a roll. Back cover has a water stain upper left and pages stick out a bit. A shame the defects because the colors are so vibrant and shiny and not a lot of soiling as many of these seem to have. Also I haven't seen much Marvel chipping where pieces are not missing. (only reason I bought the book). Can't stand the chipping and of course it is a scarce and highly coveted issue in any grade. It's decent and okay for a low grader. Supposedly from a one owner original collection along with some other Marvels the guy got in his store a couple years back. Book hadn't seen light of day since the 70's from what I understood. I'll post pics at the "Spare a grade" forum and get opinions on where it stands. I still believe a 3.5 at best. Perhaps not.
  13. Sorry...quite a bit of a glare from being inside the bag. Shiny light spot at mid spine is just reflection. The oily look to the dark brown area upper right is also from the bag. Just a reflection
