I have been off the computer for a few days (other activities). I suggest instead of what we have we list titles we collect and what we are missing. I collect ALL DCU issues and currently am missing (along with which variant using my variant sorting): Action 706B? There were 4 3 packs of Amalgam comics. 1) SKU 61944 20851 = Dr. StrangeFate, JLX, Legend of the Dark Claw. . . . (3 versions exist of LotDC: first print , second print . . . and upc = blank). 2) = Amazon, Assassins, SuperSoldier . . . These two had blank UPCs. 3) SKU = 59606 04521 = Bruce Wayne, Magnito, Spiderboy 4) SKU 59606 04598 Magnito, Spiderboy, X-Patrol . . . These last two had UPCs = barcodes (regular issues).

Did JC Penny's also have such a line of DC comics? I sure hope not - there are still too many DC variants I am missing.

It is on my want list. (Collecting every DC 1935 - Aug 2011 [DC 52 upchuck start]).

I added items from my list to the original info. Many have appeared here in the additions. What remains SM 75: there were newsstand variants with Roman numerals "II," "III," and "IV." JL 70 also had a newsstand variant. As far as we have been able to determine, there was NO second printing of Adv SM 499 and the "III" was an error in production. (Incidentally, that is the only one I am still missing. Thanks for the 2 pack info.)

I checked and I do have the Spring Hill Mall version.

I suspect that for the Gerber numbers 7 - 10, about 90% are fairly accurate (equaling his number or off by at most +/- 1 and that difference being often questionable). I think the remaining 10 % is split into roughly two equal sized groups where his value is off by +2 or -2. Some of these differences are caused by warehouse finds. Where he is definitely wrong is in his counts of "existing" copies. For his index numbers of 9 & 10, I think his counts should be doubled (for items currently in active collections) with and additional count (for items in attics, closets, basements, etc. some of which will show up and some will, eventually, get destroyed with no one ever knowing that they existed). Similarly, for the index values of 7 & 8, I think his counts should be tripled plus again an additional count for hidden/lost copies.

All are still on my questionable list but it is your call to keep/remove them.

My mistake. It is not the Animaniacs 15 that is a "Warner Bros" variant. It is "Animaniacs" 16 (which you have as a "DC Universe"). MH has a lot of issues where their picture is of a variant but what you get is whatever they grab from the box. Once they learn of the variant they will: a) replace the picture; b) list the variant at much higher prices; and c) create counts (most or all "0") for the variant.] The ones you list as questionable are, with the exception of Steel 23, also on my questionable list. Steel 23 is on my want list so I think I too have been convinced that it exists. Sorry for my mistake.

1) No other Sovereign 7 issues to add. Your list has: 1) items I have; 2) items on my want list; & 3) items I consider questionable. I do not have any others not on your list. 2) I will have to check my Animaniacs 15 to se if: a) it is a "DC Universe;" or b) is it a "Warner's bros" (in which case there are 3 versions of that issue). Just won a Catwoman 9 "DC Universe" (or at least that was what was in the picture of the lot).

Corrections: Animaniacs 15 has the Warner's Bros. symbol instead of the "DC Universe." Sovereign 7 1 has DC Universe. Now I have to hunt for Catwoman 9 as well. Drats.

Here is an attempt to list the questionable "DC Universe" items. I started with the list of items I am missing. From that, I removed: 1) the Items Captain Kirk has; 2) items with pictures in this thread; 3) an item that I was outbid on when it was on e-bay; and 4) a couple of items that are in another collection. This leaves a total of 15 items that I believe are currently questionable: Action 706 Adv. Superman 530 Aquaman 4 BM: Shadow of the Bat 38 Green Lantern 81 (cover of "many figures" plus "DC Universe" in the UPC box) Impulse 10 Looney Tunes 7 Power Shazam 17 Steel 23 Superboy 24 Superman 95 Superman 117 SM: Man of Steel 42 SM: Man of Steel 49 Wonder Woman 94. With the exception of WW 94, these are currently on the main list given on the previous page of this thread. Can the individuals supplying these items to Revat please confirm that they have the issue? Supplying a picture would be nice.

My comment on Superman 106 was an error and should be ignored. I have the SM 104 sticker but not the printed form.

The list of additional "DC Universe" items from my list is correct and I have them. I believe Aquaman 4 & 9 also have "DC Universe" versions but I do not have them. My notes are not completely clear, but I may also have a Batman 528 "DC Universe" item. (I will have to check the boxes). For now we can leave these three off as "unproven." - - - Pinky & the Brain 4 has a "Warner's" logo and not "DC Universe" in the UPC box. Superman 106 (not 104) has two forms . (SM 104 has the sticker "DC Universe" but, as far as I know, does not have a printed "DC Universe" version.) - - - For "zero" issues with the "target" symbol, I also list and have: Justice League Task Force 0 Steel 0 (All of these except the "Zero Hour" issues came in the October 1994 "brick." The 5 "Zero Hour" issues came in the September 1994 "brick.") - - - For the "DC bullet" list, add Catwoman 4. 14 of the "DC bullet" issues came in the Dec 1993 "brick." Others came in the November 1993 "brick." - - - When updating your list, please sort the titles. The Target and Bullet lists would benefit the most. - - - For the "DC Universe" list, I added 6 (plus 3 questionable) to your list. You added 4 (plus 2 I am considering questionable ) to my list. Since out two lists were created almost completely independently, I think we are finally close to a final list. I have 477 of them, there are 22 on my want list and 4 listed as questionable for a current total of 503. (We might have to delete one, if Batman 528 proves to be off the list.) After corrections, your list should, by my count, have 500 issues (missing Aquaman 4 & 9 & BM 528).

Revat: I just ran across this thread. Your master list is fairly close to mine. I am, I hope, sending it to you by PM. The Dec 93 "brick" of 20 issues had the DC bullet in the UPC box and the October 1994 "brick" had the "target" symbol in the UPC box. The "Bricks from Jan 94 to Nov 94 had 20 issues. Most had "DC Universe" in the UPC box but some would have a "bat symbol," or a "Star Trek symbol" instead. Later on DC would publish a boxed set of 4 - 9 issues containing a story arc. Typically these would have "DC Universe" in the UPC box. In 1996, they switched from boxed sets to trade paperbacks. Your list added 4 items I did not know about. Two (SM 106 and WW 106) are pictured. The other two (Impulse 10 and Superboy 24 are ones I would like to get confirmation as to "do they exist?" I have two other items that I question the existence of: Flash 94 and Wonder Woman 92. My list shows that I am missing 23 + the 2 questionable items mentioned above. Earlier, there were other questionable items on my list. Since they were not on your list, I removed them from mine. My current counts of these variants are: DC Universe - 502 (477 have, 23 missing, 2 questionable) Target - 25 Bat - 16 DC Bullet -22 Star Trek - 16 Warner's - 4 Superman - 1 Batman & Robin - 1 Carmen Sandiego - 1 Have fun

My feeling is that grading is inherently inaccurate. I am very comfortable with differences of + or - 1 grade increment and, for the most part, + or -2. (When you get to grades below 2.5, a -2 grade increment is serious and not acceptable.) So from my point of view an average difference of less than .75 shows that the dealer is usually in the ballpark. If the price is reasonable, I will get the book and accept any minor grade differences. However, this analysis is for high grade books and books which are often slabbed. I avoid those unless the price is well below guide. I would love to see a similar analysis done for books in the 3.0 - 5.0 grade. That will not happen since most such books are left ungraded. Incidentally, I really like the concept of "grade increment." I had been using + or - 1.0 while recognizing that that made no sense on real high grade or real low grade books. "Grade increment" works well over the entire range. Thanks for the study and also thanks for the "grade increment" measurement.

I started that route in 1983. Still missing 26 including AA 61 & Flash 96 (along with most of the big buck keys). Alas, there are also 95 that are incomplete (mostly coverless but some down to fragments). There are also a bunch of complete but really low grade issues to replace. Pick a cutoff date. I suggest Feb 1951 (when All Star 57 came out along with Detective 168 ). Also, by that time all DC super hero titles were gone (or switched away from super heroes) except the ones that lasted for decades afterwards. Take your time. It may take you 40 - 50 years to get there but you are a young kid and you will outlive most of the older collectors. If I had concentrated more on the keys (other than the top 5), today I would be missing more books but the missing books (other than those 5) would be going up by $100 per year per book instead of by $1000 (or more) per year. Currently restored books are way low and that may not last. I think the appropriate value for a professionally restored book (light or moderate) should be around 1/2 of the guide price of the unrestored book in the same condition. My most recent big expense was a slabbed, restored All American 19 that I got for slightly less that 18 % of the Overstreet guide price for the book in that grade for an unrestored copy. Granted, I want unrestored, un-slabbed books in at least G+ but I take what I can get and hope to update eventually. Best of luck on getting what you are looking for (as long as I get the AA 61 and Flash 96 before you do). :-)

Regarding Batman Adventures with a bat symbol in the UPC box. In 1993 & 1994, DC would put out what I call a "brick" each month. This would be a shrink wrapped package of 20 comics. In 1994 most issues in a brick would have "DC Universe" in the UPC box. Issues 15 - 26 of "Batman Adventures" had a bat symbol in the UPC box. (I have not obtained and physically checked every one of these bricks so there could be a few gaps.)

The "Adventure" is a South East Asia book. This is indicated only on the page listing the publication data. The first page has the DC indicia which appears to be totally unchanged from the DC edition. AS a SEAE edition, the fact that most sales are subscriptions seems reasonable. The non-subscriptions could be for stores (mostly in the Philippines<?>) . So my comments above can safely be ignored.
