  1. @Point FiveThanks for advice mate , regarding the cost I'm going to try get that down as there is now a CGC in London which someone else told me does drop offs and its like 20 mins from my house. I have a guy ho presses for decent prices so I will see how it looks after and get everyone's thoughts. I like having my old books so my intention isn't to grade and sell was just wondering costs etc so I can see if I have any worth doing so with. Thanks
  2. @Point Five as I am new to this i not disagreeing but if i got this book for £5 ($6.75) I assume getting it pressed and graded would cost around $50. I see them being (9.0) sold for around ($150-170) which would mean i would get $90+ at current prices. To be honest my intention isn't to get graded but im looking at my collection and due to the fact I got them cheap I thought grading some to sell that i don't want make sense. Like I said im new to this whole grading etc so feel free to correct me if im wrong...I even saw an 8.5 recently sell for $100.
  3. I recently picked up a Mario Bros #1 CGC 9.6 for $800, I can see the next one listed is at $2,500. My question isn't whether I paid too much or got a deal as I love the book (even though that advice would also help!) But what I've noticed is that it has an issue on the spine but has somehow got 9.6 when I've seen other get worse and look the same or even better. Basically my questions are does this look like a 9.6, is it a good buy (price wise) and do things like the staple issue affect the price of the book even against another 9.6 with other flaws instead? Any feedback is appreciated as this is one of my first graded buys...thanks!
  4. All feedback welcome and appreciated, my initial impression is 8.5 and maybe if I could press out the back a 9.0 (let me know if im even close!)...Thanks
  5. @grendelbo getting used to this site etc , also thought in this specific section ore people see it , but thanks ...seems like they all said 9.0 -9.2. Im still learning.
  6. Hi All, So I am only a few months back into my old comic hobby. Mainly looking at getting some of my old good condition collection graded (Mainly Bronze and a few Silver) But in the last few months I have bought my first few CGC slabs both are 2 are modern and one was silver. One of the modern books was "Bartkira" CGC 9.8 which is something purchased purely for collecting because i love the concept and art(before people judge me! ha). The seller mentioned newton rings present on the spine but i still wanted it. The book is thicker than most normal comics so maybe that's why it happened or not? secondly do newton rings affect prices of books and astly apart from re-slabbing is there any ways to remove or reduce them ?
  7. @MattTheDuck so buying one an doing it myself it a really bad idea I take it ...even for books I just want to make look nicer in my personal collecion? @csaag not sure if this is a stupid question or even if you know but does that mean that they press in their UK office or does that go to the U.S for that? thanks to both !
  8. @cd4ever have you had any issues with damaging books by accident. Im new to this whole concept of pressing myself but I have the urge to buy one myself and learn as I cat see why making any book look better isnt worth it especially If i don't have to wait for ages and eventually it would cost less. I assume the level of pressing done by a professional is so much better that's why people don't do it themselves? , let me know your thoughts any feedback is really appreciated!
  9. @revat is it only worth getting things pressed by CGC ? the reason I ask is some books I wont want to submit for grading and assumed there may be better local options (companies/shops etc) where i could get it done quicker and cheaper...I am also based in London U.K so I assume its even longer for me when it comes to submitting books for grading and getting them back ! ha (bit thats another story)
  10. @theCapraAegagrus sorry if im asking it incorrectly or its just a question that makes no sense but my question is "what is the cost to get a brook pressed professionally...roughly ?"
  11. Still learning more about grading everyday ...please give your opinion , it helps allot! I posted this a month or so ago but think this thread will be much more productive
  12. @csaag @theCapraAegagrus my main reason would be to press books ad submit to CGC and also to press ones i like so they look fresher in my collection. What is the rough cost for pressing a book (im sure it varies on the book)....but roughly Thanks
  13. Hi All, S basically I am just getting back into my old collection mainly Bronze and Modern with a few Silver aged. Lets just say the passion is coming back! with that being said I have recently posted a few books on the "Spare a Grade thread" and am seeing allot of really helpful members mention pressing and cleaning and its benefit on the books grade/aesthetics. My question is would it be a bad idea to buy a presser of my own and learn on some less important books or is that a very stupid idea? im seeing pressers going for like $200 which im fine with as I assume getting a book pressed will cost around $20 (I could be way off!) anyway is it a bad idea to buy my own presser and how much does pressing cost in general.
