Wow, 40 years..that's insane. Anyone here been a fan since the beginning? I discovered TMNT in late '88 when I saw the toys filling the shelves of a local department store. The "bursting out of a brick wall" packaging was really eye-catching.

Very cool event! What a treat that Chris Allan was there. I haven't seen him in person at a con since Philly '94.

Cool news, the show hasn't been on TV in decades.

This is coming up Saturday night! I'll be there!
Enjoy! I'd go if it was close. Just checked and it's a 7 hour drive.

That's such a great statue set. I love that setup.

I am curious to know what do people think about this? TMNT 1st printing signed by Frank Miller? Is it OK to have an artist who did not work on the comic sign it do you think?
Something I’ve never seen before. Can’t say I’d have much interest but the signature is sort of justified since the TMNT 1 cover is a direct homage to Miller’s “Ronin”. His signature almost looks like a Turtle head sketch.

I once owned a coverless copy with a reproduction cover (purchased as a bonafide first print). However, thanks to these boards I found out that the interior was actually that of a 3rd printing. I'd tread very carefully with this listing..as I'd imagine anyone would.

It's the frontispiece page in Tales of the TMNT, volume 2, #25, July 2006 (Mirage Studios). Mike Hawthorne is the artist.

In 2018, I included my ASM #2 and 3 (both Universal CGC 4.0s) in a trade. They were valued at about $1k each. Literally right after shipping the books, similar grades suddenly were selling for $2k or higher.

Now you have the rare opportunity to display them all together somehow! Or print them onto tees ;) (I'm kidding really don't print them on to tees!)
I plan to keep them all intact. If I were to display them, it would have to be in a way to prevent sun / light damage. It sure would be a cool display. Maybe down the road.

#1 3rd printings were like $10 for so many years at conventions. The good old days.

Very cool. This is quite an accomplishment - the four Turtles and Fugitoid are very tough to find, especially in great shape like the ones you found.
Not everyone realizes there are two different sets of these (1984 & 1986) so that makes this all the more special. Congrats!
Thanks! I acquired my first one in 1998, so completing it was a looong journey. I wasn't too picky about condition, but lucked out on many of them in that respect. The '86 Mike was framed on someone's wall for decades, so it's a bit faded, and the Fugitoid has some foxing or something near the bottom. Otherwise all are in pretty nice shape considering they're pushing 40.

I always joke around with Dee that I'm just going to give her a pile of cash to let me rummage around in their basement for a half hour and keep whatever I carry out. A huge chunk of my rare stuff comes from them.
Man, how cool would that be? A few of my other ones originated from them as well. They’re a huge reason I was even able to complete this set.

Yea, the lavines sold one last month in like 2 seconds, they very rarely come up.
Mine also originated from the Lavignes in another stash from 2016. I’ve never seen it “in the wild” other than these two. Extremely rare indeed.

I think it was a strong price ($78k). I’ve never seen a cover go that high , but I’m not sure I’ve seen a cover on the open market.
im curious to see what this iron-on art goes for, as I’ve never seen any of the iron-on OA on the market. Not sure if it would count as “published” if it was only used for the iron-on though
Wow, that piece went much higher than I expected.. $4,080. I thought it might go lower since the description didn't mention the year (1984). Strong price.

You owned four! I assume that these copies are so rare to find that nobody would really have a preference one way or the other? I love that my copy is signed on the inside and am very lucky to own it. Do you reckon anybody would trade a #1 first print for a #3 cover variant in say a 9.8 grade?
I normally prefer things unsigned, but these being signed at the convention in 1985 adds an extra cool factor. I'd rather have it signed, but the collector in me would probably want one signed and one unsigned copy in my collection.
Yeah, I've owned four...but unfortunately, now I own Zero.
I think at best, someone might be willing to consider it as part of a partial trade/cash deal. Or you could just sell it and put that money toward a #1 first print.

Thanks for the insight. I was starting to think that people are generally preferring the verified signature series nowadays, with signatures over the cover. It does seem like it is much harder to find non signed books, raw or slabbed these days. For me personally I don't mind the interior signed books with signatures from back in the day. I have a #1 and #3 Laird photo variant both signed on the inside by K Eastman and P Laird and I kinda like that they are there. It's their signature from 1984/1985, before who they went on to become - for me it doesn't get better than that!
I'm under the assumption that most of the Laird's photo variants are signed on the inside front cover, since it was primarily sold at a convention where both artists were signing. Of the four copies I've owned, only one of them was unsigned.

I remember passing up a first printing for $200 at a con in '93. But I was a teenager and that was a lot of money.
