  1. A variety of Gold, Silver and Bronze Buying And Selling Comics Site
  2. Billy, that's quite a wicked collection of books you have! I imagine it took you many years to accumulate them. Cool.
  3. Can't help but lovin' (and laugh'n ) the cover art for Science Comics #3 too. You would think that such higher forms of life that can be found on other planets would have Orthodontists, wouldn't you? Those characters are great too, with elephant ears and buck teeth. Ya gotta love Golden Age Comic Book art, there's nothing like it. I was also checking out jbcomicbox's Science #1. It's funny too, it's ingenious the way the girls boob is so gloriously pointy. I mean if any lady had such a pointy tit, she deserves to be in that predicament, at the mercy of the Hunchback and the evil scientist (with the phallic tattoo needle) at his cosmic tattoo parlor. Luckily the hero is about to step in and save, not the girl, but the two huge tanks of Nitrous Oxide tanks sitting there in the bottom right. Speaking of pointy boobs, check out the comparison image between Science Comics #1 and Brenda Starr #4. Well, I've tried to attach a jpg here. Sorry if it doesn't work (can't figure out the File Manager).
  4. I just love the cover for Science Comics #4. Those are some freaky looking creatures. From the pig-nosed, drooling, devil-like beast in diapers (in the background), to the red-hooded Mars-Attacks-like, green skinned, skull-faced alien in the foreground, whose eyes are poppin' forth from his head. And these were the days before LSD?
  5. This thread inspired me to open up an account here so I could add my 2 cents worth, or should I say my love for Matt Baker’s art always keeps me inspired...so I could not help but join in to this topic. Thanks for making me feel welcome. The Sky Girl pages by Baker that Scrooge posted are perfect examples of the quality of Baker’s drawing skills and his ability to tease and titillate the reader with the curvaceous female form. I wish that Fiction House had published Sky Girl under her own title, as the character, stories and art were most deserving. Sky girl would have fit in well with other GGA characters of the era such as Quality’s Lady Luck, or M.E.’s Black Phantom (which I believe were reprinted from issues of Manhunt), and Bill Ward’s Torchy (she got her start in Dollman and Modern Comics first). It would have been easy for Fiction House to reprint the Sky Girl stories from Jumbo Comics, oh well. Just a thought...I know if I was in the army and Sky Girl or Canteen Kate were in my battalion (or anywhere near it), I would probably get my head blown off by the enemy, because I would have been too busy ogling their curves instead of paying attention to the war right in front of me. JvR11’s Giant Comics edition #15 is on many peoples Want List, and the blond on the cover is alluring and wholesome simultaneously. I love that cover, and the blond’s all-American sweetness on that cover contrasts #12 of that title, with the not-so Apple Pie hooker on the cover which is definatly on my want list. You see, Baker could convey those contrasting looks, good vs naughty, sweet vs snobbish or spoiled so well.
  6. Wow, this thread was great, and it really was enlightening. I mean, even if I thought I knew Baker’s work well before, I now know it better. Thanks to all for posting their books. Some of those covers I discovered here were ultra romantic, drawn with such love and understanding of courtship, at least by the standards of the 1940s and 1950s. The detail, the line work, the beautiful faces, sultry and pouty expressions and figures set Baker’s work apart from other artists, and perhaps is only truly rivaled by the excellence of Frank Frazetta’s Golden Age romance work. I do have a few Baker romance books here, and many samples of his work at Fox Features Syndicate, and when my schedule eases up, will post some. It is just a shame that many of these terrific romance issues with Matt Baker covers and art are scarcer to locate in fine or better condition. And if you follow some of the auctions going on in eBay, you will see how high his books are selling for, even in 2.0 to 3.5 grades. It is great though to see that his work is so universally appealing, and that his works are revered, and that the world appreciates his body of art.
