Does that post come in English with a side order of less rambling? That's why I made the post
-
Yup as AC-DC always say, "Listen to the money talk!"
-
I agree completely! Matt is a reasonable guy. It's not like he's looking for blood! He just wants an explanation and for the seller to be held accountable and then he'll move on. You never know when another will pop up!
-
We're very very fair guys...and understanding. So we'll leave this up for 24 hours without saying anything and we hope the seller has the stones enough to come forward and explain. Honestly, if we get the truth, that's fine. That's all Matt wants is the truth.
-
"Cool guys" "conventions"?!? Hell ya man! Cool geeks! I think so at least!
-
why does everyone think this story is possibly false? It's not so much that the story is fake (because I don't believe it is for a minute) but some folk want to hear what went down on the seller's side before they pass judgement. That is sensible and fair and it's how anybody...you and I included...would like to be treated if we were called out on the boards. However, there needs to be a pretty damned good explanation and fast. (thumbs u Exactly Nick....and that's why we posted it here without saying who the seller was. It's to give them time to respond. I think we went about this the right way!

JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW. THE PERSON WHO OWNS THE BOOK NOW HAS SINCE REMOVED THE PICTURE FROM HIS SIGNATURE. SORRY TO YELL! I assume the seller told him to do so......Very shady if you ask me!!!
-
This is pretty clear cut on this one though. Anyone that has met myself and Matt at conventions knows we're cool guys.

While the seller did agree to a month in time payments, my friend was ready to pay it off a week or so after the deposit. The seller was definitely dragging his feet as he kept telling my friend he wanted to finish the deal in person. Otherwise Matt would of sent the paypal off to him and secured the book 100% It's not easy for us little guys to afford these kinds of books...but we're very very serious about collecting and it hurts a lot when something like this happens. Thanks for everyones advice and PMs. Dan

Problem is, this is not a easy book to find. It's not like a Silver age marvel key where as long as you have the money the book is yours. My friend Matt, will chime in after he sorts things out. He simply wants an explanation. I always thought a deal was a deal. What I posted is ALL true and detailed as I was talking to Matt every single day and was prepared to make the drive with him. I am NOT Trey Cannon. When I tell a story it's true.

Well let me first start off by saying that I am posting this for a local friend of mine. Actually, he's my best friend in the hobby. My partner in crime and he wanted me to stand behind him and put this into words as he's newer on the forum and not the best with words. Basically, he is very upset and frustrated and figured it would be better if I helped out and posted this for him...which I am more than happy to help a friend out. I will not be using names as the person in question is a very reputable member of the community and we don't want to jump the gun and hurt his rep...simply stated, we're just looking for advice and to see if my friend got screwed or not; I believe he did, otherwise I wouldn't put myself out there like this to help out. Since he's my best friend in the hobby, this effects me just as much in a way. Well I'll try and explain this short. My friend's HOLY GRAIL is to own a pre-robin Detective comics. He's realistic though and realizes they're very rare, extremely high demand, and very expensive. He figured it's still reasonable to hunt down a Batman cover as it's possible minus a 29 or 31, etc. So to his surprise after searching what seemed like forever, he found a member here with a Tec 37, the price was right, and they agreed to a deal! I've never seen him SO happy to score a book. This was like a dream to snag a tec 37. Now while the price seemed a tad low, both parties were in complete agreement. My friend made a down payment thru paypal of a 1/3rd of the asking price. They agreed that the final cost would be paid within a month. In the meantime, my friend was working his butt off doing overtime at his job, selling a couple books locally, and really trying his best to get this extra money together because he knew he might not get a chance like this again. So, with all this hard work and excitement building, he told the seller that he would finish paying it ASAP within a week or two. We don't live too far from the seller, about 4 hours, so we were going to take a Saturday road trip to go pick it up and pay the rest. We thought that would be a lot of fun. So a weekend comes and goes and the seller tells him that he was just too busy to do it this weekend. This coming Saturday we were hoping to pick it up..... UNTIL WAIT...There's a problem. The seller tells my friend that there was a problem with his grade on the book that he didn't notice, and he refunded my friend the money thru paypal. Now frantically, my buddy PMs him and tells him he's seen the book, DOES NOT CARE if it's a tad lower than previously thought, and still wants it. My friend is not the type of person that goes crazy about grading. Anyway big let down....the book that seemed too good to be true was gone and the seller is not replying to his PMs or emails. My friend is just so disgusted right now. I feel bad as well..as I told my buddy that this seller is very respected and reputable (which he is and still is as far as I am concerned). Now here comes the kicker...We now see another forum member with a picture of the book in his signature. I assume he made an offer a lot more than my buddy was paying and bought the book right from under him. What really kills my friend is that if the seller told him he needed more money, he would of paid it no problem! But instead, the seller simply chose to refund his deposit and ignore his PMs. We're basically asking what should be done if anything? My friend is a newer member here so he doesn't believe anyone, besides myself, would take his side or even believe his story. We don't want to out the seller just yet as we believe this should give him ample time to PM my friend and explain what happened. Seeing that another member bought it from under him was just the final straw that really upset my friend. I think this is a pure case of a holy grail being lost by no fault of your own. My friend is so upset with the hobby right now and I wish something could be done as I don't believe this is fair. Not looking for a theoretical discussing, just advice and what everyone thinks is ethical in relation to comic book dealing manners. Thank you for reading and I apologize for being so long winded.

Like I said Roy, I know my girlfriend. She's my best friend, we live together, and know each others personality. I don't think she's taking it too personally in reality, but on the forum it definitely comes off that way. Roy, just send me over your Tec 31 and I'll end this entire debate. How that ends the debate is up for debate, but it sure would be nice to own! My local buddy and partner in crime Matt just scored a Tec 37 so at least I get to see a pre-robin Tec pretty soon. Not a 31 but still cool!
-
Then why is she attacking people? She IS the one who is making it personal and not just a discussion by insulting people who don't agree with her POV. Why is she attacking people? This is a message board! I agree it's an important part of the hobby but do you really think anyone feels attacked here? Give me a break.
-
I'll back her up and say she is NOT taking this too personal. That's just everyones perception as emotions can't be conveyed very well in a comic book message board thread! She called me on her lunch break and her attitude was that this was just a debate..nothing more. She has no reason to take it personal. So anyone that thinks that needs to realize this is just a discussion.

We went to a local comic show today and had a great day! Kingsley picked up a couple romance comics and a really nice 7.0 or so Silver Surfer #17. I got a killer X-men #45 from Andy (GAcollectibles) that I had reserved and have been meaning to buy since I saw it at the Boston con. It's a solid VF. Fantasy comics had a staggering amount of cheap low grade silver age comics. Most of these were $2 each. I ended up grabbing a really nice mid grade X-men #47 for a whopping $13!! We picked up a bunch of Marvel essentials to add to our Marvel reading archives. All in all a great couple hours at a nice relaxed FREE show. Ran into Pontoon, Universal Soldier met us there, and Andy. Also made a grade contact for a nice local guy who collects pre-code horror and has a massive collection. Going to visit his house soon for a tour. Figured I'd bring this thread back to what we all love....Funny Books!! Thanks DAN

I have no problem really with what he said to my girlfriend. It just shows how easy it is on the internet to judge someone with zero clue as to who they are. Anyone on here that has met her knows how much of a fun person she is and calling her a loser is laughable. But, he apologized so whatever. She can handle herself. Beer and sweet potato fries tomorrow? At your booth? Maybe I'll get trashed tomorrow morning like in college.
