  1. I know you are all following my Mobil giveaway collection with bated breath. ;)

Here's the latest, a nice #3. Looking for 9,10,15,16 now.

(I have a few of these for sale now. PM me if you are interested in buying one of these cute little comics before I list them on ebay.)

  2. I picked up a 1964 Mobil giveaway comic #1 last week. Not the best copy but complete and with WHITE pages, which is nice.

The Australian editors used to go to some lengths to remove 'Americanisms' from the comics and replace them with the local variation. This is a good example. Back in 1964 Australia had a pounds, shilling and pence money system - note the money bags and Donald's pay rate lettered in locally - 'one and sixpence an hour'.

  3. Just arrived today...

Glad you finally got a 9.6 copy of this book! :baiting:

In my experience this is one of the tougher later Gold Key Barks books to find in nice shape. I'm not a chaser of 9.x (though I do admire them) - I'd rather have have more 8.0s for the same $. But this one has been trouble. I recently got a 7.5 and thought I'd done well.

  4. Agree with you both, 30 days is too long -- but if buyers and sellers were publicly "outed" after a week or two, there would be a lot more arguments, and this thread will get a whole lot longer!

If a seller took that long to ship something to me, or a buyer took that long to pay me (absent any reasonable communication), believe me, I'd be chomping at the bit to report them -- and this is not entirely a hypothetical. But at the same time, I can respect that the 30-day mark is an effort to find the balance of preserving a sense of community here.

I absolutely agree Jon...30 days is a pretty horrendous effort to pay for a book or ship a book. But what I think the 30 days establishes is the "horrendous" threshold if you will, thus qualifying someone to be placed on probation...even more so if the person is non-communicative and/or brings a pain-in-the-azz attitude about it to the person on the other end of the transaction... 2c

This about sums up the purpose. :sumo: As everyone knows, most books bought and sold here on the Boards are shipped and received within a week. :)

and even with internatonal shipping 30 days is plenty of time (thumbs u

Yep - even from Australia. I think 20 days is the longest anything I've shipped has taken, and that was to Greece. The US is more like 10-12.

  5. I feel almost unworthy given some of the recent posts. Not quite 9.6 Four Color goodness from me, but I continue to chip away at my collection of 1964 Australia/New Zealand Mobil giveaway ducks and mice. This one was last week's effort - and a nice copy of a hard to find early release. I won a #11 on ebay yesterday, so I'll subject you to that in due course. 16 down, 8 to go.

This one is a NZ edition (it has a staple rather than being glued).

  6. Just got this in from a past Heritage win ( not the auction that ended this weekend). I have always considered this to be a classic cover but was surprised when the catalog came out that it was shown with a small picture and very little write up. As far as patriotic war covers are concerned, this one really stands out to me and I love it. :cloud9:

Beautiful copy too! I want to put together a mini-theme of WWII WDC&S covers. It would include this one, 46 and 58. I'm waiting on a 58 I bought last week and am watching for the others.

Congratulations on your win. Dare I ask how much it cost?

  7. Kudos to AJD !!

Andrew GAVE me a book a week or three back and last Thursday asked if I'd be interested in a few more Ducks. I said yes on Friday and got the books today.

Before I had paid for them.

I hate doing this, because now the secret will be out  and he will be swimming in a much larger pond. It's the right thing to do though, as he:

    Grades well (thumbs u

    Packs very well (thumbs u

    Prices extremely well (thumbs u

Is a pleasure to deal with. (thumbs u

All around good experience and what makes the Boards a nice place in which to deal.

 Thanks Peter - I never could say no to Duff.

  8. Thanks! The book has its problems that the scan washes out but overall a nice book. I didn't know what it was worth (nor still do I) but I recalled one at a comic shop in the late '90's priced at $40 so I figured I had little downside. My biggest fear was that it was a reprint of some sort and not the original. I've always liked the DD story in that book :)

I supect that the store mistook it for a reprint - I might be wrong, but didn't gemstone re-use that cover on a VP?

  9. I really like that book. I've got one myself

    vacationparade-1.jpg

So, I was silently jealous of all those Vacation Parade # 1 owners ...

Today, I walked into a 1/2-price book store and the first book I see is a FC Lost in the Andes priced at $ 800, that's right, no typo, $ 800 :screwy::insane:

Huhoh ... I doubt I'll find something to buy in these parts until I found this more reasonable $10 book (well, I had a coupon too  ) :acclaim:

I don't know what the guy pricing these was on but I am not complaining

    :o

I missed out on one on eBay that sold for $200 and it wasn't that nice. Nice pickup - he says through gritted teeth.

But at least I know my FC223 is worth $800. :insane:

  10. And this one completed my Barks Scrooge run. (Yay!) I paid VG price for it, but it looks nicer than that in hand. Group shot to follow. And, yes, I know it's trimmed, but I'll live with it for now.

Finally gave up on finding one in F or better? Other than mine, I haven't seen one.

I haven't given up, but I thought this was a very presentable lower-grade copy and I was keen to have this run complete. I now have all of the original Barks Uncle Scrooge issues from FC 386 to #71. Pre-internet, this was unthinkable for me-I can remember buying the Barks Library when it came out because there was no way I'd ever own the originals.

Next up - DD Four Colors and WDC&S....

  11. These beauties turned up today. This one was in a slab (emphasis 'was') - one of the 'other' companies. As a result it was slightly overgraded, but still nice.

    fc263.jpg

This one was an upgrade (the old one is in the sales thread). 7 Cities... :cloud9:

  12. I got another shipment today (there'll be one more soon and then a long hiatus while the bank account catches up...)

First up is a FC 275 (Ancient Persia). These classic Barks Four Colors are really hitting the spot right now. (Totem Poles to come later.)

    fc275.jpg

Then a couple of WDC&S with great Kelly covers. Odd staple placement on these ones - but it is a production fault, not a later addition. Luckily the wide offset on #99 is just outside the panel border in the first half of the book, so it remains completely readable.
