  1. I just love that cover, and that skeleton is AWESOME, buuuut I thought it was a bit much for me in terms of price. Though, in retrospect, maybe it's just getting started. lol. Who knows. Had the MCS one been around $800-$900, I definitely would've jumped on it. I've been on a bit of a PCH buying "frenzy" the past few months and recently saw one of the comics highest on my want list show up for auction - Blue Bolt #115. It was only a CGC 2.5. I read the CGC grader notes and it had a detached cover, so I decided to maybe stay away from that, but almost bought it despite the defect. A month or two later I saw another CGC 2.5 show up and decided to bid on it. Surprisingly got that one. It was the cover that, when I randomly saw it, really turned me on to PCH and Golden Age comics. It's got flaws, obviously, being a CGC 2.5, but it was good enough for me.
  2. Speaking of which ... I got an email from MCS today that a CGC 6.0 copy of Chamber of Chills #21 was in stock (great PCH cover and Lee Elias goodness!). I didn't read the email until later, so by the time I went to look, it had already sold. It was listed for $1500. I'm guessing it sold for that (?) - I guess we'll see when it makes it to GPA. If so, holy cow, that's strong for that grade. In Feb. 2024 a 6.0 sold for $720. In Mar. 2024 a 3.0 sold for $840,. Wild prices being paid here and there. I don't think I would've paid that much for it, but it's still on my list.
  3. If you're lucky, you may find some "deals" here and there, especially in mid-grade'ish (5.0 - 7.0) issues. Other times, I don't see much of a letdown in prices in dang-near any grade with most PCH. Especially not higher grades. Then you have people on the lower end just wanting to get in the door with an issue and paying up for them. This causes price compression in some of the lower-to-mid grades that'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Lately, I've been trying to buy in the 5.0-8.0 range depending on the comic, and it's been hit-or-miss (mostly miss), but I've had more success than in the past. Then you have stuff like Matt Baker covers where even some of the more mundane covers are still hot. I keep saying there will be some cooling off, and, like I said, you see it here and there, but it depends on the issue, the grade and the auction. I think a lot of SA/BA money may have jumped into GA at least temporarily causing this run-up. I don't know how long it'll stay there.
  4. This piqued my interest. All I could find after a brief search was this OA that sold years ago on Heritage (read the lot description). Interestingly enough, according to GCD, one of the stories in it is possibly by Ernie Schroeder, as well. The indexer notes on the GCD entry describes how it couldn't be Palais and also notes the initials "J C" are also visible, but I don't see that - maybe someone else does. The only other "Pelletier" I could find was the modern artist Paul Pelletier.
  5. Cool comic and I like the narration. Reminds me of watching Wild Kingdom episodes back in the 70s or 80s. lol. Very peaceful listening and informative. Minor and FYI : I just noticed you state it's a 7.0 in the description of the video ("At 7.0, this copy ranks at the top 12th percentile with only 5 graded higher"), but of course, it's an 8.5.
  6. This is good to know. I had no idea they built custom crates for you to load stuff into. Thanks for coming back and posting the update with the info as I may be making a move later this year or early next year. The only downside is how much extra the custom boxes and the comics added to the move. How are the boxes put together? Using screws or nails? And how the heck are those boxes stored on the truck? They look like they're floating. Was Dr. Strange involved in this move? Maybe adjustable "racks" that hold the boxes up, but are underneath and can't be seen?
  7. Biggest mistake I've made in comic collecting to-date, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Well, ok, I'm ashamed (lol) ... but :
  8. Reading these type of threads is always bittersweet. I never knew or interacted with the man, but immensely enjoyed reading posts on his Facebook account full of cool history about the industry. R.I.P.
  9. "Yeah, Gert, I'll take my usual comics and a pack of Raleighs..."
  10. I'm guessing it's issue #4 of the Australian edition. You can see it in an auction here as part of a lot. They show issues 1-4 & 7 in that auction. On this site, you can go through each issue of the run from the looks of it, but only a few of them have scans of the covers. Issues #1-3 have scans and they match up with what is in the auction and in the same order. I think you can safely assume that the remaining 2 in the auction are #4 and then #7. As for any more info .... *shrug*.
  11. From what I recall reading (and I had to re-search for it to make sure I was remembering correctly), CGC gave (will give?) GA comics with very minor color touch or glue a pass in that they would get a blue label but would still note the color touch/glue on the label. I think it was under their discretion, so I don't know what the exact criteria would be for determining whether it would be blue or not for color touch or glue. I've seen a few of these in the past. As a matter of fact there were threads on this forum about it with examples.
  12. I thought I was the only oddball that goes around buying old photos of people he doesn't know. lol. I never thought of having a reason to purchase them like this kid's shirt, though. For me, it was always cool to see the people, fashion, car styles, etc. frozen in time, and I just start daydreaming. lol. Thanks for sharing!
