  1. Jaydog, in all honesty, I was not thinking of your comments when making my statement. IMO, you are not pimping books, just doing your PQ discussion. And, I agree with you that the market doesn't care what any of us think or say here. However, there are obviously others here who do think otherwise and do nothing but pimp up the financials. In all sincerity, I would much rather see a PQ post from you rather than another speculative financial comment from certain others.
  2. Good comment. Thanks for pointing it out and getting it out there. It's becoming obvious that this thread is the personal pimping grounds for a few select holders of AF15. I guess they feel like they are adding value to their books by promoting these new offerings. Fair enough but they should allow for negative discussion also. Every time someones points out a flaw on a big book in auction the cheering sections cries foul, claiming they are hurting the seller's profit margin. What about the poor buyer ?
  3. Roy, I admit I erred with the presentation of my statement. I did not intend it as a statement of fact, only an opinion as to what may have happened. Remember, I am a collector and I hang on to my books for a long time. I have experienced similar incidents on my books. It's very disheartening to to put a book into a safety deposit box as an 8.0 and come back 6 months later to see it morph into a 7.0 . It happens. Also, I have never seen a book incur CB spine ticks from slab damage. I have seen edge tears, chips falling off, dents, and all the other usual SCS results but never spine ticks, especially 6 of them. But, I suppose it can happen. On a personal level, I don't appreciate your introductory statement implying I habitually 'throw' comments out. Especially from a person who seems to have expertise on nearly every topic. If you have a problem with my comments then either hit the mod button or reply to me in a respectful manner.
  4. I don't understand these new boards. By the time I see a Solar Boy post, it's already been taken. It's like the posts queue up and come through in groups. Oh well.
  5. 8.5 was a harsh grade but, I'm sorry, 9.6 looks like a gift grade. Those two creases very much stand out, hits you in the face. If I bought this book, I would not be happy. This is crazy. Makes you wonder what the heck is going on at CGC. 8.5 to 9.6 with pretty much no change.
  6. Not unless the customer asked the presser to perform this service.
  7. I think this current discussion was started when, someone other than Namisgr, asked about the possibility of some of the book's traits having something to do with a bad press. I actually think the discussion of a book possibly having a bad press is a legitimate discussion though some frown upon it. You rarely hear a discussion about spine realignment anymore but it is happening, especially on big books. A book that has toasty edges and looks like it may have spine realignment gets called into question. It quickly evolved into a PQ discussion. It would be interesting to hear your opinion on the 'bad press' topic. We already know your opinion about the PQ !
  8. I think the possiblity of tampering has been addressed with the new case design. You can no longer 'gently' open up the slab. It generally takes a complete destruction of the case to open it up.
  9. Jaydog's arguments are the classic 'what I collect is cool, what you collect is junk'. If you really think about what we are 'arguing' about here is the fact that some of us like a nice clean cover with a nice PQ designation on the label. And this annoys him so ? I just can't figure out his agenda.
  10. Jaydog, have you ever acknowledged someone's opinion that didn't concur with your own as legitimate, or even reasonable ? You constantly berate us with laughing emoticons, claiming our discussions are nonsense, saying we should start a religion with our beliefs. We may have more respect for your opinions if you had more respect for ours. There's no justifiable reason for you to ridicule .
  11. But you did not answer my question. Do YOU believe in the grade on the label ? We know you don't believe in the PQ. If not, what do you believe in ?
  12. First off, the majority of books are sold online without the luxury of having the book in hand. The majority of buyers simply believe the grade on the label and purchase accordingly. IMO, the integrity of the grade is far less 'dependable' than the integrity of the PQ. Secondly, you did not answer my question. Do YOU believe in the grade on the label ? We know you don't believe in the PQ. If not, what do you believe in ?
  13. Don't grade it, just price it ! To argue whether these flaws should be regarded as production and ignore them is doing an injustice to the buyer. The pinholes are there, regardless of CGC's opinion. I think a book like this should be priced to sell, not graded and priced to grade. Sorry.
  14. Jaydog, do you trust/believe the grade on the label ? IMO, the grade is more 'wildly inconsistent' and collectors put too much stock into it.
  15. I like books that don't need movie hype and stand on their own with an awesome cover. With that in mind..............
  16. Regarding the cleaning, the comic is rubbed with a dry eraser. Obviously the surface of your comic is not smooth with many creases and wrinkles. You would have to be very, very careful.
  17. There are no pieces missing but the book has a LOT of general wear. Did you check if the poster is there and intact ? The stain (dust shadow ?)on the BC hurts. Even with a press, I think it's 4.0 tops . I would not dry clean it as it might induce new tears.
  18. Did you use CCS, the pressing service branch of CGC ? If so, it's mentioned under Services and Fees/Pressing. I think this covers checking for resto ? If you have chosen our screening service, we will decide which comics are appropriate candidates for pressing. Those comics that are determined to be appropriate candidates will be pressed. Screening fees are charged in addition to the pressing fees except for Walkthrough tier, where the screening fee will be waived if the services are performed. If we believe that the comic is not an appropriate candidate for pressing, you will pay only the screening fee, your comic will not be pressed and it will either be returned to you or transferred to CGC for grading if so designated.
  19. Ouch. I am confused on something. When you sent it to the presser, didn't you have an option for an evaluation = don't work on it if they see resto ?
  20. May I ask the general Page Quality of the books in this collection ?
  21. Per CGC..... The Qualified Signature Series or Yellow/Green label applies to a comic book that has been signed by someone of significance to the comic, and also exhibits a qualifying defect or unwitnessed signature. For example, if a comic book missing a page and is signed by Stan Lee under direct observation of a CGC representative, the book will be graded as if the page was not missing, and given the Qualified Signature Series label with a notation of the missing page on the label. Another example is if Stan Lee signed a high grade comic book under direct observation, but the cover also exhibited a signature not observed by a CGC representative. Stan Lee's witnessed signature (Signature Series) and the other signature (Qualifier in high grade) would result in a Qualified Signature Series label.
  22. I've been using a safe for my better comics, both raw and slabbed, for nearly 15 years with no visible harm. I have an EvaDry unit and a hygrometer inside the safe. I also keep a small stack of comic book staples open in the safe. I check everything weekly, air it out a little. Years ago, someone posted a pic of his slabbed 9.8 Hulk 181 that had terribly rusted staples from being inside his safe. I admit, the image haunts me to this day, but there must have been something else going on there ? I don't remember anyone else posting here that they had similar problems.
