  1. Realizing you are correct, it is sad because it's probably been done. It's this kind of thinking that scares me about the hobby. Trying to fool CGC is the new game. I would hope you drop any further discussion about this. We don't need to educate folks about hiding restoration. BTW, I agree that the book looks trimmed. One, look, before I saw any comments, I said to myself that right edge is trimmed. Sorry. Oh, I feel like I've upset you Bob. Sorry if so, it wasn't my intention. I did say I would never do it, and money is of no interest to me, I just was intrigued by the notion and thought a discussion board would be the place to debate it. But I can see your point so, again, sorry if I upset you. Mags No problem. I did note you said you would never do it so my comments were not personal, no anger . Yes, this is the place to talk about it but, IMO, it is just not the ethical think to do. Trust me, any ideas from a discussion would be implemented, somebody would try it. I just know I would be mad if I purchased a book that had been manipulated to fool CGC. I just don't feel a discussion would be proper. Thanks for the response. Even more sad is I recently saw a AF 15 purchased on eBay that was a graded blue 1.0, but about 1/3 of the cover was cut off. The purchaser basically parted the book out, and now is selling blue NG pages on eBay from that copy. I am sure of this because the NG damaged cover only (obviously the cover to the 1.0) was sold by the same seller, who is now selling pages. Once a page or cover cover is graded as incomplete cover only NG blue, does CGC even look for restoration? I saw that. Don't like it. Unfortunately, since CGC is willing to encapsulate a single page, we are going to see more of this. Assuming CGC did not envision this scenario I hope they can reconsider. Tearing up the book for more profit should not be encouraged.

  4. BTW, there is a whole new set of 'crappers' in the thread saying about the same thing Columbia said. If Columbia got scrubbed, so should these guys. I am going to publicly apologize for contributing to the speculation on what happened. Atlas didn't argue the purchase so why should we even discuss it ?
  5. I think another real possibility is that he used an older price guide. This book was not very expensive a few years ago. Perhaps this is why he has not spoken about it and appears to be honoring the sale. The thread has been cleaned up so who knows .
  6. I just left a thread where someone was complaining that CGC is grading one to two grades too tight. Now I come here and read about a 9.2 morphing into a 9.6 . So really this new 9.6 was graded too tight and should be a 9.8 or 9.9 ? Richard, you had the right idea by deslabbing many of your books. It's time we start looking at the book and not the grade. The multiples paid for literally the same book because of a press and resub is beyond reason.
  7. I've honestly never seen a ST 53 before, cool book. I got a few high grade Pre Hero Circle 8 books years ago, though not from Harley. I believe there were multiple copies of many of the Circle 8 books. Do you know if they all came through Harley ? He has always been a good source for Pre Hero. Harley said the copy I bought from him was very likely a Circle 8 copy. Although not 100% sure. It looks like it is in great condition so I think the probability is high it's a Circle 8.
  8. No we shouldn't +1 At the very least, I hereby make a motion that we postpone further consideration of this idea until after I have finished liquidating all my original owner Marvel Team-Ups...which I predict will take at least another 10 years. Okay, I rescind my proposition. Just curious Ed, I don't recall you ever selling 50 cent books here ? In fact, I don't recall any sales thread selling for less than a buck a book.

  10. 50 cent VG books ?!? Is this place getting a reputation for a fee less dumping ground ? Serious proposition. We should add something to the selling rules for a minimum price.
  11. I agree, just look at Metallo and compare it to early Iron Man. How can there be no reference on the CGC label at all ? Nice book, 8.5 is an amazing grade for this era.
  12. Spot on. People buying online are not going to believe your grades anyway. You have to get them slabbed to have any credibility. If you sell in person, an astute buyer will see they were amateur pressed. Trying to press 64 long boxes is a waste of effort. Pick out the valuable books, send them to a real presser, and get them graded. Blow out the junk to a local dealer. And the midland books that don't fit either category, hang on to them, maybe some will get hot in the future.
  13. Did he say he was selling the books? Yes. Or are you interpreting 'maximizing my selling profits' differently than I am ?
  14. Great, another amateur presser putting his experiments into the marketplace.
  15. 'If' this seller is the one doing the trimming on a larger scale, a business model, I think he should be avoided. Destroying the integrity of the books for profit is not good for the hobby. Yes, he is disclosing, and technically he is not doing anything illegal but I would never support him as a customer.
  16. Great 5.5. What are the defects. Looks quite beautiful Thanks. There's some water stain on the Back Cover.
  17. John, I remember you submitted one in Chicago a few years back and got a 9.6 .
  18. In many ways the Boards are simply a microcosm of real life, with it's cliques and cast of characters. I do have to both laugh and concur with your comment about people wanting to 'land the ‘killer’ blow in a thread and be seen as the moral conscience'. I do wish a certain individual would lighten up a little. But with all it's flaws the Boards are one heck of a resource for information, sales, and all around entertainment. It's a fun place with a unique personality. Get a different ID and come on back !
  19. Regarding the Boards participating in the GoFundMe for Chip, IMO, this is not the first time the Boards have helped somebody out financially when it probably was not justified. My point is that if we are foolish enough to contribute, shame on us. Going forward, I am exercising more caution.
