  1. My understanding of 'peekthrough' is exactly what you call 'fanning of the pages' It's the inside pages peeking past the cover on the right edge and it happens to varying degrees. So when you say 'the pages are fanning so IMO the book was pressed' that is no different than someone else saying 'the peekthrough pages are a 'tell' that the book is pressed" And I've been maintaining all along that fanned / peekthrough / pages showing on the right side - WHATEVER you want to call it are not necessarily an indication of pressing. And is it possible that you are misunderstanding me as well? My emoticons were meant to lighten the book, not bring you down. Sorry if you were offended. Roy, regarding the emoticon comment, yes I thought posting a HaHa when quoting me was disrespectful = you are laughing at me. No problem, thanks for the Sorry. Now regarding my fanning reference, you are basically telling me what I meant, saying my statement equates to peekthrough. Whatever, that's not what I meant. I am talking about that upper right corner situation, where the corner of the cover does not align with the pages. For future reference, what can we call this to distinguish it from peekthrough ? Again, I agree, peekthrough alone does not mean pressing. However, combine it with that upper corner thing and a sharp, stiff overhang, and, IMO, I think it's pressed. IMO, okay ? You need to acknowledge that when someone says 'IMO' he is saying it is not a fact. Big difference. Falsely stating something as 'fact' is wrong and should be argued. Not allowing someone to have an opinion is also wrong. Please Roy, ease up, just a tad, PLEASE.
  2. Sure, you did. Do you read your own posts? The problem lately with having a dialog with you Roy is that you interpret someone's comments to mean something totally different. In my statement I specifically mention the upper right corner. I don't know how to describe this upper right corner phenom, where the upper right corner of the cover does not line up with pages, giving an appearance of the pages fanning out, like a deck of cards. I think it has something to do with the overhang being pressed flat but I don't really know. Anyway, I did not mean a whole right side peekthrough, which I agree, can be seen on unpressed books. Again, I repeat, someone asked if these books were pressed. I gave my opinion, explicitly stating 'IMO' they were pressed. I'm sorry if I didn't check in with you first. Your constant badgering to be 'right' is getting tedious and boring.Your use of emoticons is also disrespectful. Let's make a deal, I won't comment on your opinions and don't comment on mine.
  3. Building a narrative that says 'peekthrough' is a 'tell' that a book is pressed is flatly wrong and eventually, if allowed to continue would lead people to believe that all books with 'peekthrough' interor pages are pressed even though it is not true and there is sufficient evidence to show that even unpressed books have 'peekthrough' pages. Agreed. Peekthrough alone means nothing. I never said peekthrough meant a book is pressed. Did anybody else ? Stronger characteristics of a press is the stiff, 'starched' look of the top overhang combined with that funky top corner overlap look. In any case, pressed, not pressed, who cares ? The only thing going on here is whether Roy gets the last word in. Can't let that happen. HaHa.
  4. I am not surprised by these results. It's Subby, hands down, no contest.
  5. Super pretty. You have some stunning early 12 and 10 cent DCs in this thread. Indeed. However, to a collector like me, not stating the page quality is like not having a pic or grade.
  6. Well said. CLINK would be doing the sellers a huge disservice by not recommending going that route. Not necessarily. See my post above. IMO, you press the high end stuff and leave the 'ordinary' stuff with potential. Leaving some potential will increase prices. It's really the smarter play. I am not sure I agree. You maximize the grade on everything that is over a certain dollar amount which could mean you press or not depending on the assessment of the potential to increase the grade. I think you are actually agreeing with me. I said press the high end stuff, you said press everything over a certain dollar amount, same thing.
  7. These are enlargements of the upper right corners of the books you showed, with the template at the far left. I wish I knew what goes on that causes that effect. In the early days of pressing, I didn't see it. Now, it's like all the time.
  8. +1 THE N00B GUIDE WHO'S ONLINE?: You are able to hide yourself from that list. Under your preferences, there is a question - Hide from who's online? You can select yes to be hidden. I would have kept that to myself. Now, everyone will hide.
  9. Why not name names? It wasn't a secret when it happened and was talked about quite a bit here You know, you are right, but lately I feel like I am walking on eggshells around here. There is so much trolling going on with the Boards lately, lots of nastiness too. Just playing it cautious. BTW, Dave Kapelka is a great guy !
  10. Good point, time = money and estate sales are usually very anxious for the quick turnaround. Without naming names, I remember a prominent dealer bringing a newly slabbed collection to a convention, all unpressed, but priced at full Market. The feeding frenzy from other dealers was so great they drew numbers for rights to pick first in a box of their choice. Everyone was happy. The dealer got his money up front, before the convention even opened, and the dealers were resubbing onsite !
  11. Well said. CLINK would be doing the sellers a huge disservice by not recommending going that route. Not necessarily. See my post above. IMO, you press the high end stuff and leave the 'ordinary' stuff with potential. Leaving some potential will increase prices. It's really the smarter play.
  12. Paging Josh. I am assuming the high end stuff was pressed but it would be interesting to know if the 'ordinary' stuff was pressed, things like 2nd tier and DC (HaHa). Only pressing the high end stuff, IMO, benefits the auction house, the buyer, and the seller. Knowing some books may not be pressed will be appealing to both flippers and collectors, thus driving up prices on otherwise ordinary books. When I see collections brought to market that are stated as Pressed, I always think to myself they are missing an opportunity. The smart move is to be selective, leave a little potential and it will actually help prices.
  13. Still friends. Remember, I'm married to a Virgo. I am used used to arguing, losing, and not holding a grudge. HaHa .
  14. Worthy to mention: I looked at the comments and reactions after my original post with the template. A couple of pages of nada, completely ignored while other conversations were introduced. You then came in challenging my post and then the '3 pages of discussion' followed. Also worthy to mention: I, along with others, only chimed in on the pressing after you challenged the original Boardie that asked the question. You have a way of attacking people's opinions with a 'higher moral ground' type of attitude that forces people to defend themselves. I hate that I fell for the bait and continued this discussion so long. I challenge you, Roy, to let my final comment be just that, final. Let's end this nonsense discussion. This is an amazing collection of books. I hope to have some in my collection. I do need an upgrade on my ASM #1.....
  15. Roy, my only point was to say, IMO, the books from this collection were pressed. Period. I never claimed the books were 'damaged' as you alleged. I never showed any pics of a Cole Shave book for comparison. I only used the template, which IMO, is a template for the way today's pressed comics generally look. This is a very desirable collection, unlike the Cole Shave freak show. The question whether these books were pressed or not was raised and I gave my opinion. Please quit trying to make me look like a person with an agenda.
  16. That the shrunken cover template doesn't really apply to the book you posted. IMO, the books of this collection are similar to the template. Definitely not to the degree of the Cole Shave but they share the same characteristics. Not necessarily the fanning, as the fanning on these books are slight, but that upper right corner overhang thing. You disagree, fine. I see what I see, you see what you see. Others can judge for themselves.
  17. Sure, resort to sarcasm in an effort to discredit me rather than just stick to the discussion. I didn't say the books were not pressed. In all likelihood they are. But the ASM #10 CGC 9.8 actually didn't have fanning that was that bad compared to other books I've seen or the template you showed. The fact that you have to make this personal is unfortunate. Roy, I really don't want to engage you or make it personal. I said nothing negative about the books other than they were pressed, showing a template as an example. I said they are pressed, and you just said they are pressed. We are in agreement. What are we arguing about ?
  18. Yes, it's been said many times before, but nearly always by you ! Is that supposed to mean that pages don't change shape and normally fan out on SA Marvels or are you just trying to discredit me with a personal attack? Is that all you did? This is your quote below in the spoiler tags: You compared these books to the Cole Shave books when in fact the ASM #10 9.8 example you posted is nowhere close to the template you posted. Are you following the conversation? Why would I be defensive about books being pressed? Like I said, pressing is as common as cheerios. I'm merely pointing out how those who don't like pressing keep pointing at characteristics about the books calling them damage when it's just conjecture. Okay Roy Everything you say is correct. The books are not pressed and they don't even remotely look like the template. It was foolish of me to even give my opinion on this, risking being wrong. Thank you so much for setting me on the right path to enlightenment.
  19. Yes, it's been said many times before, but nearly always by you ! Look, nobody is knocking the books because they are pressed. Somebody asked if these were pressed and I gave my opinion. I have no idea why you are getting so defensive about the possibility the books were pressed. What's the big deal ?
  20. Absolutely a great story and a great book. I'd say both the girlfrend and the book are Keepers !
  21. I hope your point is not to stifle free speech on the Boards. If the book is not on a Board Sales thread, I think it's absolutely okay to comment, good or bad.
