  1. +1 Especially like the Glob ! Very cool books.
  2. What record price of a 7.0 are you referring to ? The UK copy Hulk #1 CGC 7.0 that ended on CC yesterday. The copy we've been discussing. It ended ar $40K. That was a 7.5 ........
  3. What record price of a 7.0 are you referring to ?
  4. My favorite cover of all time. Nice grade.
  5. It can, depends on the environment. I keep some loose staples in a small bowl inside my safe. One of the staples had a tiny spot of rust. After about two years, I cannot detect any deterioration.
  6. I thought all of them had to agree on grade. OK. Just learned something. Well, it used to be the consensus rules. If 2 grade it 7.5 and 1 grades it 7.0, it gets a 7.5. But this may have changed. I rarely get books graded anymore. I don't think this was ever the case. The finalizer assigns the grade with input from the other two graders but it is still his call. Back when you could find out what each grader assigned you would see it was not a vote. Once I had a book where the first two graders assigned a 9.6 but the finalizer found something and it got a 9.0 . Wow. So why employ 2 Jr's? Save the money and let the finalizer just grade the book. Seriously. I never really understood the logic behind this procedure. It would be nice if CGC commented about this. I only know from calling, back in the day, and this is what was explained to me.

  8. All true statements. Regarding the new cases, I am passing on all books in the new cases without the inner well. I just don't want to deal with it. I think it behooves sellers to say if their new case book has the inner well or not. It is sometimes difficult to ascertain.
  9. While I'm here, I just was able to pick this up, locally, in hand.
  10. I think this is the book you are talking about, unless there are variants ?
  11. Great book Dan, love it. You've become quite the Page Quality snob with your new purchases. Welcome to the club and keep up the good work.
  12. Here's an esoteric one. I never knew about it until today. Bizarre comic.
  13. Wow congrats! How much did you pick it up for? Sorry, I never discuss financials. I'm just glad I now have a copy, no matter what it cost.
  14. +1. I believe this specific 62 was submitted by me from my personal collection, years ago. It's nice to see old friends !
  15. Congrats, Bob. How local are we talking? Very local, as in LCS. I'll tell you the story when I see you at Wizard !
  16. There are two distinct chips from the interior lying at the bottom of the slab. To me, that indicates the pages are starting to get brittle. There are at least a half dozen chips off the bottom of the Back cover. Obviously, whoever owns it is afraid to send it back in for fear of a downgrade. In this case, the scans are not exaggerating anything. It is not a strong 8.0, more like a weak 7.5 . I would not be happy with this book at 20K.
  17. The Twin Cities Pedigree collection came out just after Savannah. The Don and Maggie Pedigree came out a couple years after Savannah. I would rank both of these far above Savannah. It's all a matter of opinion but I would not give a premium to a Savannah, especially to a CR/OW Savannah.
  18. All Pedigrees are not created equal and the Savannah Pedigree, IMO, is at the low end of the scale. Most books have CR/OW pages and look toasty. In this case, I don't think the Pedigree designation is adding any value. Also, this probably got graded during a loose period and it shows. If it was resubmitted today, for any reason, I doubt if it would be an 8.0 again. Obviously, anyone that owns it is not happy with it. You can only stare at the grade so long before you actually look at the book.
  19. It's more than those three. They charge it here in Illinois and they don't even have an office here. They claim any state that they hold an auction in will, permanently, garner a sales tax. They even charge sales tax on the Buyer's premium and the shipping charges. Ridiculous. Hard for me to bid on any of their auctions because of the high buyers premium and the sales tax and win because I live in Texas .. Legally, you'd pay either way. Most states have "use tax" laws that require you to pay sales tax directly to your state for out-of-state online purchases where sales tax wasn't charged by the vendor. Texas estimates they lose 2 billion annually by consumers that neglect to pay use tax when they file their state income tax. By collecting sales taxes in only certain states, it puts the bidder residing in a tax state at a disadvantage. He has to be willing to pay 10 - 12 % more when bidding. If the sales taxes are truly owed, why not collect them on all transactions and level the playing field ? Also, the sales tax on the BP and the shipping is definitely debatable. Say, if I buy a new furnace, they only charge sales tax on the materials. When I get a haircut, all service, they do not charge sales tax at all, etc. etc.
  20. What if there is only one Local? I had multiple conversations with them about the sales tax. I even had an electronic conversation with their accountant. Here's the deal, nothing to do with an office. If they are issued a Tax ID in a state, for any reason, maybe they just once held an auction in the state... they will charge a sales tax. On advice of their accountant, they are being very cautious about this, taking no chances.

  22. I would be very happy too. Great book !
