  1. Without commenting on this specific 'spaghetti and meatballs' situation, in general I am seeing the Boards more and more favoring the seller. It seems like a seller can get away with virtually any selling tactic, Pre Sales, no pics, pics but no grades, everything seems to be okay. If a buyer has a bad experience he cannot leave negative feedback, only kudos are allowed. A Board buyer can be the recipient of bad packaging, bad grading, slow shipping, etc. and he has to suck it up and smile. As mostly a Buyer, I don't like it.
  2. So if I order spaghetti and meatballs at a restaurant and they '86' the meatballs, I'm obligated to eat the spaghetti by itself. Interesting.
  3. That is exactly my point. Sometimes you get a downgraded blue label and sometimes you get a qualified green label. There is no consistency. CGC needs to choose one way or the other. I think Green Label flaws in general can go Blue or Green depending on the situation. I think CGC tries to give you the best option. In this case, I'm sure they thought a 9.8 Green would be better then a 9.0 Blue (just guessing on the grade). Sounds reasonable to me.
  4. Not OK. That's a classic example of using GPA to deceive rather than inform. Private sales are by their very nature private and don't need to be disclosed. CLink, being a public auction is very different as it is the type of data that GPA is supposed to collect. A recent CLink win followed by a self-serving GPA analysis is not cool. I agree. However, if you point it out in the thread, you get yelled at for Krapping. Usually, a seller like this will ignore any PM's on the topic since he already knows what he is doing. It's not as bad if the seller doesn't quote GPA, just list a price without the commentary.
  5. I heard the next format will be a CGC Mystery Grade sale. You buy the book before the grade is published by CGC. Hey, it's not against the rules, so why not ?
  6. Serious question. How is a Presale sales thread any different than a Mystery Box ? In both cases, I don't know what I am getting. If a seller wants to list his books on E-Bay immediately upon arrival from CGC, that's fine but a picture has to be taken anyway for E-Bay. Why not offer an I'll Take it pending pic and show the pic when he gets the book. What's this going to cost him, one more day? BTW, I also like the way Roy approaches this = a raw pic works well.
  7. You have to be joking, please tell me you are joking. If not, you actually think buyers should have to pay more for a pic of the book ?
  8. Demand stock photo? I don't get the point of a presale to being with, it could really get you into trouble, as has been shown in the past I understand Not accepting returns on CGC books but I don't understand Not accepting Returns on CGC books without a pic. How is not showing a pic anything but misleading ? Classic Buyer Beware.
  9. Is anyone else annoyed with this new 'Presale' format in some sales thread? Books just shipped from CGC, no pics, once they arrive the sale is closed or the price goes up. It's getting to the point where the only time I see pics of books is when the buyer shows them off in the This week in your collection thread. Even Clink shows the front cover ! I also thought return policies were supposed to be stated in the sales thread.
  10. That is a lovely copy of an early Flash. It's amazing to me how the hobby/boards have changed (ultimately accepted the inevitable). We used to argue over the horrors of pressing and there were two distinct camps. Those who were totally repulsed and those who felt that it was better for them to be the recipient of a higher grade/price on their own books. I must have sold 200-300 of my original books untouched back in 2004-2006. And in many instances someone else bought, upgraded and profited from their "restoration". Fortunately I did quite well anyway as there weren't too many original collections unearthed at that juncture. Now it seems all but a given that most slabbed books will have already been "restored". You'll note the quotation marks as I'm not fully up to speed as to what is considered restored these days. Times change - live and learn... It seems many new to the hobby are just fine with pressing a book before grading, even if it doesn't need it. It's great for the pressing service people but for the hobby it's a joke. Not every book needs a press and the idea of doing a cleaning on that book seems unwarranted To each his own. I agree. Too many books are being pressed that simply don't need it. Sometimes it's about the books themselves.
  11. It is the essence of good manners that one is precisely NOT thinking out loud! It is also in the essense of good manners to not intentionally try to rip off people Your apples fell in with your oranges there. There's NOTHING inherent about a high relative price, in a free market economy, that is a "rip off". If you are speaking to undisclosed restoration, failure to disclose or incorrectly disclosing information that is entirely different than simply asking a high price. People are free to ask what they want for what they own. They aren't free to misrepresent that item. You're mixing your sources of indignation and you'll find it has the aroma of a sweaty scrote. As far as I'm concerned a seller can ask for whatever they want. However, I don't like it when they manipulate the data to make it appear they are offering a good price. I know some will argue that buyers should do their research etc. but IMO the Boards should be better than a buyer beware environment.
  12. If you are referring to the AF15 7.0 OW/W, that's the same book you passed on ? I'm glad it was available, many thanks to you bomber-bob for pointing me in the right direction. Yes, it went to a good home. Long before you contacted me, I responded to Elmer's WTB and hooked him up with this book. I was very surprised he passed. I saw the book in person, it was gorgeous. Since the owner was not actively trying to sell it, it was still available when you contacted me. I guess things happen for a reason.
  13. If you are referring to the AF15 7.0 OW/W, that's the same book you passed on ?
  14. Thanks. Regarding the condition, it literally went right from the OO's basement sealed in a plastic baggie to a bag and board in my house, eventually of course to CGC. Very little handling.
  15. Fantastic pickup, Bob. I have two nice copies of this issue, so passed on it. Congrats!! Thanks. You probably saved me some money () !
  16. Just won this in the Heritage auction last night. I had to step up to the plate to win it but it's my favorite cover of all time. I don't usually hoard but this is my third copy, the two others are raw.
  17. I love this cover. With the Pacific Coast Pedigree and White Pages = awesome book. Wow!!
  18. You have me curious about the 110, Bob...... I love that book, and knowing you, I'm betting it's a nice copy ? GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) I've never seen an actual high grade copy. I have two copies. I just upgraded to this one last weekend at C2E2, FN+ ish with White pages. Andy (October) sold it recently on the Boards to Dale Roberts. I got to Dale just after Andy delivered it ! Absolutely one of my favorite covers.
  19. I had so much fun with this, and nice feedback, I did a new, improved group shot. More slabs!
  20. Ha HA. Sorry. Just caught this myself. I will remove it !
  21. The Weird Horrors is awesome. What a great cover ! Congrats.
