  1. Yes, they have. I was both disappointed and happy with my submissions from this summer as well: disappointed with the books I subbed to flip that did not receive gift grades BUT happy with the ones I wanted to keep as they are accurately graded. I'm still trying to figure this one out. Back cover is just as nice... Well at least the pq is nice! No hint from the grading notes of some secret sorrow to the interior that you had overlooked? There must be a major problem on the inside pages Generally water/moisture related damage (wavering) when you can't see anything wrong and the grade is that low. A detached centerfold can bring a high grade book down to 7.0 .
  2. Good post. When purchasing or submitting for your own collection you want your books tightly graded. If you are a dealer or simply selling you want the gift grade. For the overall health of the hobby, I think you should want tightly graded books coming from CGC. Gift grades pollute the marketplace. Part of my research when making a purchase is checking the Grade date. Love me those Mark Haspel era grades !
  3. Interesting that your concerns are only financial, not which is best for the books. Hobby purposes you say ?
  4. Great looking book ! Too bad the staples are Rusty. Just joking of course.
  5. Hey, I thought I showed you how to get the notes in your BB28 Rusty Staples thread ? Now GATOR gets all the credit (). Seriously though, getting notes on all your books, after the fact, will drive you nuts. The notes sometimes seem to be written in a foreign language. Nobody here, including CGC, can tell you what the stain reference was. I would only obtain notes on a potential purchase or maybe a fresh submission. BTW, the older the Grade Date, the worse the notes seem to be.
  6. Really ? That is the one book in his stack that did not seem to be up to Greggy standard. My bad, of course your comment was tongue in cheek.
  7. Good stuff ! I especially like the Adam Hughes cover.
  8. Great book. 7.5 is an excellent grade from this era.
  9. I honestly never see Toth books offered. I suspect, with the proliferation of pressing, much of this collection has been resubmitted numerous times and the Toth tag has been lost. Also, there has been so many non CGC recognized 'pedigrees' coming to market that these tags all get diluted. It is difficult to separate the worthy from the silly. Without the name on the CGC label, it is difficult to maintain the heritage.
  10. I went through the high grade phase years ago but I have changed my ways. Finding a truly rare book is much better.
  11. Now that is one heck of a group shot. Wow. They look to be in pretty good shape. How did you manage to keep them from the proverbial 'my mom threw them out' situation ?
  12. I just bought some books from Robert's recent salesthread. The books were shipped promptly and packed safely. The books themselves were great with spot on grading. Robert threw in some freebies also. Just a great guy to deal with.
  13. I forgot about that collection. I can't remember who brought it to market, Lange's ?, but it was sold raw, in auction, via E-Bay. I remember they graded really strict, like their VF's were 9.4's type of strict. Once people caught on the books got very pricey. I think Brulato was buying many of these. Personally, I don't recall getting any. Regrets. Nice books.
  14. I think this discussion should be contained to Original Owner collections, otherwise this is getting silly. Brulato ? Come on.
