  1. Not surprising. Auctions with Reserves seldom do well. No reflection at all on BB28.
  2. Not if you have been a collector for many years. If you obtained many of these 'hot' books years ago you are smiling. This is true. I will rephrase - now is a terrible time to start becoming a comic collector (if you care about the value of your collection in 20 years). (thumbs u

  4. I beg to differ on your BB34 comment and offer the CGC census as proof. There are only 381 graded copies, only 26 in 8.5 and higher, no 9.6's, no 9.8's. Compare that to the current hot Marvel key, Daredevil 1. There are 2,126 graded copies, 238 in 8.5 and higher, 2 9.8's, 17 9.6's. In fairness, that is likely a result of lack of interest in slabbing the book heretofore. Just a quick perusal of eBay reveals dozens and dozens of mostly raw copies available. -J. Yes, and they are all lower grades. Also, the number of raw DD1's on E-Bay is not trivial. I agree that any book getting hot will see more in the marketplace but to call BB34 'abundant' is an exaggeration. Jaydog, per your own words, you only believe in the data. I have produced the data and it shows BB34 is not abundant in high grade.

  6. +1 Classic looking cover. A poster image for Power Girl.
  7. Excellent and well-thought business decision. No law that says restored must get purple. Nothing deceptive if the label says "restored." I suppose it was a good business decision but my comments were directed at the restored blue label as a bad decision for the hobby. Sure, the label says restored but the color of the label says Universal to most hobbyists. Imagine if different cities had different colors on their traffic lights. What if Cleveland changed a red light to go and a green light to stop. It's confusing. These types of things should be 'Universal'. I always thought Borock was a fan of the hobby. It does not make me a fan of the other company.
  8. I agree with keeping stealth about a find like this on many levels. First off, there is a certain bragging factor. Second, at cover price the transaction comes off as almost unethical. Third, if you decide to sell here people will know what you paid and it will work against you. I know you enough from the Boards that you are not bragging and you are ethical, however, some don't. There is just no upside to disclosing your find. IMO, best to keep it quiet.
  9. "Other company's" labeling system. Leave a lot to be desired. -J. Not sure if facepalm to my post or to the blue label. I mean it is blue right? I aint THAT drunk. yes but they use blue for restored and unrestored I'm not sure that was such a great idea This will make the other company a dumping ground for restored books. I think it is deceptive. This is a case where the other company simply wanted to do something different than CGC. Not very well thought out. Bad decision.
  10. This. A hundred times this. Not sure I've ever complained about grading. I've missed stuff. But I have 2 subs done without a prescreen because I figured every book at least a 9.6, with most a 9.8. Most are 9.6 with a couple 9.4s and 9.2s. I can't imagine what a 9.9 looks like now. The requirements for a 9.8 have gone up substantially. I'm actually, glad to hear about the tight grading. As a buyer, I am now getting what I pay for. I think CGC went terribly soft a few years ago and it influenced our personal grading. We starting grading soft also. Now, CGC has finally tightened up. Maybe a 9.8 will now look like a near flawless book, this is the way it should be. Kudos to CGC !!! Tight grading is good for the hobby.
  11. My gut tells me the seller is reading all this and is hoping SpideyFein requests a refund. He doesn't want to sell the book at his listed price and is waiting out his 30 days. If SpideyFein requests a refund, technically, the seller is off the hook. He is gaming the system. My gut also tells me there is another buyer with a new negotiated price waiting for this to play out. We will never know about the sale because the book will be resubmitted (another suggestion in the Sales thread BTW). Does anyone else feel all those comments in the thread is the root cause here. It alerted the seller and this is the result. Again, sad.
  12. I wonder why places like c-link don't report Why should they ? Most dealers don't report either.
  13. Not to my knowledge. Because you asked the question, you must have a situation ?
  14. C2E2 weekend in Chicago. Without Greggy there I was able to pick up some nice stuff. Here's a sampling....
  15. I just bought a slabbed 9.8 book from Brandon. A perfect transaction. Brandon shipped quickly, packaged securely, and communicated throughout. I highly recommend Brandon as a seller. I hope to buy more from him in the near future.
  16. Too funny, thanks for sharing. IMO, that comic, a 9.2 no less, is ruined.
  17. You don't see too many of those anymore. I know it's about the book - which is very sold and vibrant - but the old label is a plus to me, especially since the Oakland collection was brought to the market a year or two before CGC opened. Indeed, if you have a CGC 9.8 without benefit of a press it is usually breathtaking in hand. Many of the Oaklands graded 9.8 the old fashion way. It is not a warehouse find. That's a stupid premise. It was OO all the way. Supposedly he would place the book on a towel and read them once, gently. The knock against the Oakland pedigree is the volume of books, not too many keys. Trust me, they are really nice books.
  18. Potential for one of the greatest "Last Posts" in board history.... He was directing that Liar comment to me for this interchange..... Him: No plans to ever sell any books and with the headache I got here, I really dont want to do it again. My comment in response: You just used this site to sell a 4K book with no fees and you are upset. \(shrug\) Him: Liar....... I don't know who bought the book from him but good luck. It may have been a good price but sometimes the risk/reward just isn't worth it.
  19. Cool books Frisco ! I like your taste. It seems like I see more of the Pricing Variant on the 76 than the regular edition. The census does not distinguish between the two so it's difficult to say.
  20. I just had a perfect purchase transaction with Michael. Since he is local to me we did the exchange in person and I had a chance to meet Michael. He is a great guy, very easy to deal with. I hope to do some more transactions with Michael in the future.
  21. I'm not sure if these belong in this thread but they are Kirby and I thought you may enjoy seeing them.....
  22. Hepcat has a very diverse collection of comics and other collectibles from the 60's and 70's and loves to share pics of his collection here. He is very personable in his threads and shares some pics and stories about his cats. I think it's great. Very refreshing. No drama, just love for the hobby and his pets. The Boards needs more members like him. Just saying.
  23. Purchased a couple raw books from Tracee and I am very pleased. The books were great, as described, shipped quickly and securely. Though Tracee shipped the next day, the book was in USPS limbo for a while. Tracee was very concerned and we communicated every day until I got it. It's nice to know the seller stands behind you when there is a problem. Thanks Tracee, you are a great seller ! ---Bob
