  1. You are correct, he did acknowledge he was not in compliance. As a 'fix' he broadly graded all books Good+ or something ridiculous. I just don't like the way things are headed with sellers here. First, the new thing was to not post pics, only if requested sort of thing. Now here, he is not even giving a grade, trying to explain that you can ascertain a general grade by the price. ? I mean you can list on the Boards for free. Isn't that incentive enough to put a little effort in to a sales thread, like grading the books. I'm sorry, if you are one of the buyers I think you are wrong in condoning this. I previously had a lot of respect for this seller as a Boardie. Now, I don't know, I just don't understand what's going on here anymore. Does anybody monitor the Sales threads anymore ? Doesn't anyone else care ?

  3. I'm watching another sales thread, no pics, no grades, and Boardies are buying. Does anybody even monitor these sales thread ? This is a sales thread from a long time Boardie, so apparently the good old boys club is in play here. No pics, no grades. This is okay with everyone ?
  4. Must be. In any case, bindery or not, that's a scary chip. This book should not be a 9.2 . I suspect it came off or was damaged in the encapsulation process. I have to believe the graders did not see it like this.
  5. I've seen this book, with the same complaint, numerous times in multiple threads. What are you trying to accomplish ? Do you think CGC will contact you and say they made a mistake. Buy the notes or move on. Sorry.
  6. This thread is like breaking wind when you are all by yourself. Having said that, let's see if I get a response. I just saw a Sales thread where the scans were NOT the actual scans of the books, simply stock scans, like an E-Bay Mile High comics listing. Apparently, per the guidelines, there is nothing wrong with this ? I just think we should be better than E-Bay, more transparent. I think it should be a rule that scans are the actual books for sale. Anyone ?
  7. (thumbs u I picked up a copy of this last month and I love it !
  8. I don't think you need to have a CGC membership to submit a slab for a reholder. But it's still a pain, expensive with shipping. I do like the slab pro product. I have a dozen or so, different colors, but I like Black the best.
  9. Sorry, just saw this now. Yes, I still own the 9.2. Thanks. BTW, you are a great Curator !
  10. Not really. These are questions for CGC. I had similar questions about rusty staples that remain unanswered. I will mention that a staple can be detached from one of either the FC or BC and still be attached to the other. In this circumstance I believe you can get a blue label though it is a flaw and will be detracted from the grade.
  11. Awesome. You don't see the White Page designation on many of these. Love it !
  12. I like that copy. Great eye appeal for the grade and love the page quality. Nothing better than a Black cover with White pages.
  13. I really think there are a number of Showcase issues heating up, 30 Aquaman, 34 Atom, and 37 Metal Men specifically. Brave and the Bold 25 1st Suicide Squad , very rare , hard to find, prices have already escalated. My Greatest Adventure 80, first Doom Patrol, another rare book that sells immediately for high prices when it shows up. All the early Supergirl issues in the Action title have been heating up. It's a good time to be a DC collector and holding some of these books.
  14. Just read this whole thread for the first time. Congrats to those individuals who held on to their 9.8's despite the cry from many Boardies to sell at the then 'ridiculous' prices. Unaware of this book until recently, I have to admit it's a great cover. I am a fan !
  15. Wow, great looking copy. You really need to get this to CGC. The book is hot and RARE !
  16. Please take down my Mass Pedigree copy, I no longer own it. As a comment and History on this pedigree book, I received it directly from the OO. I submitted it raw, no pressing, and it received a 9.2. The only problem was a light fold so I decided (against my instincts) to get it pressed and resubbed. The result was a 9.6 but the book now had damage at the staple. I even sent it back to CGC to question the integrity of the grade with the staple issue. They sent it back as is ? Anyway, the staple problem annoyed me so I sold the book. Later, I see the book in a 9.8 holder. Looking closely at scans of the 9.8, though it was the same book, I could see the staples were now tucked and firmly pressed to hold the tuck. In other words, the book was manipulated to hide the staple problem. Disgusting.
  17. Sorry, you are wrong, you can easily slide the inner well out of the holder without breaking the holder. Maybe you meant YOU can't do it but it can be done, rather easily. If you took the time to read the thread you would see many affidavits and examples.
  18. That's understandable. I find it hard to believe that someone would stop to think that there might be something wrong with the ASM 5, but like you said, if it can happen with one part of the label, why not the other. I actually hope a typo is not what happened with the ASM 5. If true and acknowledged, it can open up a floodgate of queries from customers that simply don't agree with the grade, claiming it must be a typo.Interestingly enough, you probably need the grader's notes as evidence to challenge them on a grade typo.
  19. Actually that is my secret, use only your fingers. If it won't open with just your fingers, it is too snug and will probably crack if you use a tool of any sort. By using your fingers, it may hurt, but after awhile, just like with playing a guitar, your fingers will develop calluses. I have had lots of practice. I can build a house out of plastic if I had saved them all. Do you keep the good ones ? I'm sure you could probably sell them. However, after this thread, maybe it's not the right thing to do.

  21. I think I would have to see a youtube video of this to really believe it. Although I have tried on numerous occasions to see if it was remotely possible, every slab I have cracked has either ended up splintering all over the cracked along the side as Bomber Bob described. And even if I could pop one corner with even a slight crack, the second post inevitably destroys the slab every time (or at least made it extremely "tamper evident"). -J. How do you open them? I've cracked maybe a dozen slabs using a flathead screwdriver, and while the posts always get damaged ( I haven't actually tried to avoid this), I've never had a case splinter on me. Sounds like Jaydog has a rough touch ! I am known to have "heavy hands" as my mother would say, but I do use a flat head. The moment I get to the second post is where things get dicey, and in a worst case scenario the case splinters as if I snapped a CD in half. -J. Okay, I will say this, using a screwdriver to open up the slab is the worst thing. It will probably crack and damage the slab for sure.

  23. I have cracked out many books in my CGC collecting lifetime. Most of the time I can successfully retain a reusable slab, a slab with only a small hairline crack on the side, near the post, not visible from the front. I then use the slabs to put my favorite raw comics on display. If you were to inspect these 'slabs' in hand, you would be hard pressed to notice any obvious damage. Here's a couple pics of my display stand..... Bob, can you please clarify what you are saying? I think some are believing that you are claiming you have "re-snapped" the posts together on the slab, and that it would not be obvious that they are in fact broken if a person were to actually visually inspect the "re-used" slabs in hand. -J. Okay, I am holding one of my display slabs in my hands. Obviously, to get the original book out you need to pop two posts. In this case it is the top two posts. Both posts have been resnapped back together. Are the posts tight and snug secure ? No. Are they tight enough that they stay together with ordinary handling ? Yes. My trick is to put the re-snapped slab into a tight CGC bag. In the bag the posts are tight and secure. Out of the bag, the slab will open very easily by prying on one of the sides. I can only see one hairline crack, on one side only, near the post, one inch max, very faint. I am not mechanically inclined. I cannot 100% of the time open up a slab without damage. My secret to opening the slab without obvious damage is rather simple but will not be disclosed here. I do this just for my own personal use. I have never sold or given anyone else one of my snapped slabs. I only brought this up to back up my position that the ASM 5 slab was tampered with.
