  1. That's a Thursday. I'm not sure if the date is regional or what. how do you know it was a Thursday? you have a hot date that day? Tim, we're about the same age. What day do you remember as new comic day back then ?

  3. Thanks, good question. I actually crack out a very small portion of my slab holdings. If I was unhappy with a submission but I really liked the book, I would deslab it and put it into mylar as a keeper. Most often on PLODs or Qualified, sometimes just because of the grade. If I didn't like the way the book was holdered, I would deslab. Example, if the book is very loose in the inner well and sliding around I figured it would be safer just to take it out. If there was a foreign object in the inner well and I didn't feel like dealing with a reholder I would take it out. Hopefully, this makes some sense ?
  4. No confession. If this is a scam, I would consider this a very dishonest action and would hope the authorities get involved.
  5. I have cracked out many books in my CGC collecting lifetime. Most of the time I can successfully retain a reusable slab, a slab with only a small hairline crack on the side, near the post, not visible from the front. I then use the slabs to put my favorite raw comics on display. If you were to inspect these 'slabs' in hand, you would be hard pressed to notice any obvious damage. Here's a couple pics of my display stand.....
  6. If the corner posts are cracked, the CGC case has done its part to alert the buyer it's been tampered with, so why would CGC not come out & confirm the book has been swapped? Regarding CGC response, historically I have noticed that they either choose to not respond at all or they 100% tell the truth. I agree with Michael here, they would never fabricate an alternate answer to look better. When it is their fault they admit it. I still think the slab has been tampered with.
  7. I have another solution, sell the #1 ! That number #1 is a really nice copy. Congrats.
  8. I think the Hand from Beyond would win, after all it has the 'upper' hand !
  9. While I'm not disagreeing with your logic, historically CGC has bit the bullet on embarassing situations. Look at the Blue label JIM 83, resubbed to get a Purple, inspected again to retain the Purple, then resubmitted yet again to obtain a Blue. Maybe it was the Boards but CGC didn't try to hide. IMO, saying they screwed up on the grade as oppossed to a swap would be worse. Bringing the integrity of our grades into question would be a bigger PR issue than acknowledging the slab can be tampered with. Don't forget, there was a telltale crack in the slab.
  10. Which thread?? Not a For Sale thread. 2nd string DC Sci-fi http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=16&Number=8250262&Searchpage=1&Main=113904&Words=&topic=0&Search=true#Post8250262
  11. Somebody just posted a BB25 in another thread with a datestamp of June 23. The book is from 1959. Sure enough, June 23 1959 was a Tuesday.
  12. Sweet ! Love the date stamp. This book is really heated up but it's always been a tough book to find. Is this a new acquisition ?
  13. If my memory serves me correctly, new comics hit the newstands on Thursday during that era. Now I was buying my books at a local convenience store not a newstand. For me, new comic day was Thursday.
  14. Nice copy, great eye appeal. Love the date stamp !
  15. If this was a case of tampering, and I think it is, there is a scenario where the label doesn't have to be removed. The consignor has two slabs, one is an 8.0 and the other is a 5.0 (the problem book). He gently removes the inner well of the 8.0, leaving the label intact. He deslabs the 5.0 but leaves it in the inner well. He then places the 5.0 into the 8.0 slab. You now have an 8.0 slab, label intact and never touched, with a 5.0 book in the inner well. Trust me, you can crack open a slab and remove the inner well with minimal evidence of tampering. I think CGC will find that the hairline crack an inch below the top corner is the evidence.
  16. I don't understand your consignment manager's comment. First by breaking open the slab at this point, you are destroying the evidence. Second, the inner well has nothing to do with the tampering. In this case. the outer well and only the outer well was compromised, allowing the culprit to swap out the inner well or the label. The opening of a slab has been discussed on the Boards before. If done carefully, the only evidence you would see is probably that hairline crack you mentioned. The location, inch from the corner is where it pops. Should the consignment manager be charged with a crime? I'm not sure I'm understanding why you find my comments funny. It was mentioned that historically CGC will bring in law enforcement in cases of tampering, as well they should. If the book was tampered with, how is this not fraud ?

  18. Guys, you are all going along with this like CGC actually graded that book 8.0 . The slab was obviously tampered with. You should be more shocked mycomcishop.com allowed this book into auction or that it actually sold ?!? The submitter(seller) should be charged with a crime, seriously.
  19. Just another comment, not trying to give you a hard time or anything, but realize that many of us like to keep our private transactions private. Knowing that any dealings with you will be posted in your Journal will prohibit some of us from dealing with you. To be perfectly honest, I don't know why you feel the need to publish a journal ?
  20. I have always been a believer that the financials of a transaction should be kept stealth. Especially if both the purchase and sale is on the Boards. Threads where Boardies brag about their biggest scores annoy me. While I sincerely feel you are an honest, hard working individual trying to get ahead, I just don't see any benefit to creating a public profit/loss statement. However, discussions about how your books graded with pics are very much welcome. It's about the books, not about the dollars !
  21. BB 25 on the Bay in CGC 5.0,already over 1600. .... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brave-The-Bold-25-1st-Suicide-Squad-CGC-5-0-CREAM-OW-Pgs-/381076960057?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item58b9f4f339 BTW, no promotion, not my book, just saying this book is hot .
  22. How can a buyer do any 'due diligence'. You can't see the book. You don't know the cert to get Grader's notes. If you do the 'I'll Take It' and the book is different than described, you have a problem as the Boards feel you are still obligated to buy. What if the book arrives from CGC or the auction house in a damaged state ? Sorry RickyBobby, you are just wrong.
  23. Gator, please settle an argument in another thread. When dealing with GA and SA, do White pages command a premium ? The thread, if you haven't seen it, specifically asked about an X-Men 1 in 9.2 White, should it command a premium ?
  24. I remember when the X Files was wildly popular on television. For a while, the comics were hot also. This was long before CGC. Anyway, I can't remember the last time I even heard the X-Files mentioned, let alone the comics. I'm not saying this will happen to the Walking Dead, I'm just saying.
