  1. Thought this would grade higher but oh well. It's good to see CGC grading tight ! I always loved this cover.
  2. Okay, I now have a 28 & 29 but still haven't found the right 27 for me. Just received this today..........
  3. Actually it doesn't take much research to find out the Seller in question. I would be mad if I didn't hear anything for 3 weeks. You might as well just officially out him.
  4. Yes, we have an influx of new members, the majority of which are not interested in anything but making a quick buck. E-Bay sellers are trying to sell here at their typical inflated prices hoping to avoid the fees. E-Bay sellers are also using the Boards to hype their books. Pump and dump is rampant. Hoard a particular issue, set up a few fake E-Bay sales, and hype it here. The sad part is, it's working.
  5. Awesome. I absolutely love this pedigree copy. Nice pickup !!!
  6. Spirit of the boards is also up to interpretation as many people find comfort in following rules exactly, even their own. And for what it's worth, I would have given the book to Mike if it was me but I understand why Mike also didn't get it. So that is why I think we need a standard, community set of rules...so that if all else fails, those rules act like a catch-all. Because ultimately, the point of this conversation is not to draw lines and choose sides but to eliminate the problem. I think the better question is, would you have stepped aside if you were in the other "buyer's" shoes?
  7. I don't think praising Joey on your submissions to the other guy is a smart post. Sorry.
  8. Yes you did argue for Tuffy and I believe you were criticized for doing so. If what you say about Tuffy is true, the seller could have simply said something. He basically ignored everyone and gave the appearance he simply preferred selling to the 'next' guy.
  9. In this case, Tuffy made an offer to buy a book which was no longer for sale publicly. The seller is under no obligation to accept, review, or even address that offer at that point. Example - You go to a comic book store. You see on the shelf that there's a AF15 you really want at a good price. You're moving towards it, another guy takes it down, takes it to the front. You pass by and tell the owner you'll take it if the other guy doesn't take it, and you leave your business card on the counter. He doesn't answer or acknowledge you as you do so. 2 days later, the original buyer's check bounces, and the owner puts the comic back up on the shelf. Its bought immediately, by someone else. Did the owner do the absolute smartest, most customer friendly thing? Probably not. Did he break any rules? Assuredly not. Understand and acknowledge. However, all the arguments against Dan's thread are along the lines of proper Board protocol, good business practice, etc. The same arguments can be applied to the 'Tuffy' incident. I just don't understand why no one cared at the time but everyone is concerned about Dan's thread. Anything goes. It's the new normal. It's not yours until it's in hand. No grade until it's shipped.
  10. IMO, per the rules Dan stated in his thread, he did the right thing. There was another incident recently where a Boardie name Tuffy posted an if the pending deal falls through. The deal fell through and the Seller did not acknowledge Tuffy. Why ? Because, after Tuffy's Take It, in the middle of the thread, the seller said whoever posts an I'll Take it from this point forward will win. Per my post below, I said if this is okay with the Boards, anything goes in the future. At the time nobody seemed to care, so why all the fuss over Dan's thread ? IMO, the Tuffy incident was worse. The new MO, anything goes.
  11. Recently got this copy from a Boardie, his undercopy !
  12. This issue was always tough for me to find in high grade. My personal collection copy came back with CR/OW pages so I had to get rid of it, sorry. This is my first Don and Maggie copy and I hope it won't be the last. From what I have seen the Don and Maggie books remind me of the Twin Cities pedigree, very fresh and bright.
  13. I've got an Adventure 242 also. Here is a pic with it's buddy #118.
  14. Very nice and bright copy congratulations! Did you have the CT removal done yourself? -J. I've had this book maybe a year and change. I traded for it as is. Previous owner had the ct removed don't recall the grade I was told in it's ct form. Phil, I believe you were considering getting this back into a restored state. I'm glad you decided against it. I think it looks solid as is.
  15. Yes, but I'm not going to name names. If you buy a book from a dealer and you don't see it recorded in GPA that pretty much suffices as 'evidence'. On the other side of this, there's been a lot of discussion and finger pointing in other threads about people using the pump and dump, shilling fake sales to up the prices in GPA. As I said, these are strange times in the hobby.
  16. While I don't doubt you, how do derive this information? I sold one of them for a price that crushed the GPA-recorded high, and learned from the dealer to whom I consigned it that several other sales had done so, too. I think the same thing is going on with Hulk 1. From what I can ascertain, many dealers are no longer reporting to GPA, on anything. Can't say I blame them. If they report, that just sets the bar higher for them to purchase. These are crazy times !
  17. Good luck, I've already tried to pry it from Bob. He'll die first. (thumbs u Indeed, it really does mean a lot to me and probably impossible to replace.
  18. Great eye appeal on this copy ! I hope it's a keeper. It would be difficult to replace a White Pager.
  19. Look at the feedback left by someone. That may have been a scam. Definitely a scam from a high jacked account. Not an actual sale. -J. I see one negative feedback but otherwise . Apparently it was a BIN. Maybe the seller didn't realize the value ? It appears the seller does not actively sell comic books.
