  1. Especially the PQ... Yes, the stated "PQ" on the label is impressive for this book as well. -J. Thanks for all the compliments. I got this book from a OO collection in Canada back in the 90's. I submitted the book to CGC and trust me, in hand, the pages are bone white. I also got this JLA 3 from the same collection. Another toughie and please note the page quality ! http://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=11073&GSub=915
  2. I agree that we are seeing a lot of the pump and dump technique on the Boards. I hate it also. However, for the most part, I think this BB28 thread is an honest love of the book. For me, it's always been a favorite, a holy grail and so much more important than any movie hype. For your viewing pleasure only.......
  3. While I certainly feel your pain (been there done that also), I think you should expound upon the details more. You are implying the book was sent directly to CGC in an 8.5 slab. If so, I think CGC owes you restitution. However, if the book was deslabbed or sent to a presser first you can't necessarily blame CGC.
  4. Roy, an excellent statement. Perhaps now you can remotely understand why some of us feel the same way about the manipulation.
  5. Funny because the good DR is only a year or two younger than me !
  6. Let's just say I am old enough that I bought ASM #1, Avengers 1, DD 1, XMen1 off the stands. It was a great time to grow up !
  7. I just bought a run of raw Grimm Fairy Tales from Paul. The books got to me so fast I think he shipped them before I bought them ! Excellent, safe packaging. Best of all the raw books were exactly as described. I would buy again from Paul anytime !
  8. You are correct, this specific book set a high water mark for a 6.0 . I suspect there was more at play = pressable flaws in the notes. The purchase price was based more on potential than the present state of the book. Perhaps we should qualify our page quality comments to the following... Collectors will pay more for a White Pager. Flippers will not.
  9. John, thanks for the compliment on my collection. I am okay being a PQ snob, I feel like I'm in good company. My argument here is that it's not the PQ snobs that are arguing the point. The people that don't care about PQ keep bringing it up and arguing about it. Jaydog, I just perused through a few pages of this thread and you have argued with sacentaur, spiderphil, namisgr, and me about PQ. You keep pounding away, not us.
  10. I assume your expertise on this matter allows you to call it a 'fact'. I don't see it the same way as you. I am a PQ snob and I will pay more for a fresh looking book. I am NOT troubled by this. It seems like the folks that argue against PQ valuation are more troubled about it.
  11. Thanks. Probably my absolute favorite cover of all time. The trouble is I have never owned a copy.
  12. Nice stuff Greggy ! The Pre Hero Marvel is a new venture for you. I think it is outside of your comfort zone and you should stop.
  13. I love the Big Hand covers. Anyone have a Strange Adventures 110 to display ?
  14. This thread is awesome. Some really great stuff on display here. Tim, loving this book. I have never seen the cover before.
  15. I concur, I absolutely love this HOS 7 cover. Great copy !!!!
  16. Technically, Joey is ranked #1 . The #1 set is obscured, hence it no longer gets an 'official' rank and Joey moves up to #1. In any case, it is quite the accomplishment. Joey's set is very robust and nearly complete with a highlight of #4 in an 8.5 !
  17. Without a pic of the slab I cannot comment for sure but I believe if the post is broke CGC will not simply reslab the book, it needs to be regraded. If so, there is always the chance it will not grade out. I would suggest contacting CGC and showing them a pic and they can advise. To be perfectly honest I would ask for my money back from the seller.
  18. Since both buyers are gentlemen, there is no issue. However, this may mean the end of the 'Take It' as we thought we knew it. Apparently it is okay to simply ignore it and move on to sell to someone else. Precedent has been set.
  19. Beautiful #37 !!!! Love it. It seems like there is a mystery barrier for a PreHero book to cross from 7.5 to 8.0 . As you, I wanted an 8.0 on my JIM 30 but it didn't make it. I could never figure out why but I it's okay. 7.5 is a really good grade from this era.
  20. After the seller was asked what happened to Tuffy's Take It he reponded....
  21. Since we are arguing about technicalities here the fact is the Seller did not put the book 'On Hold'. He said 'Deal pending'. Tuffy posted that if the deal falls through he'll Take It. Seems legit to me. I think the seller does owe an explanation as to his thought process. Not so much for this deal but for future reference. He changed his requirements in the middle of the thread to disqualify Tuffy. If this technique is okay, then anything goes in the future.
  22. True but Tuffy did comment in bewilderment. I think it would be nice to know the logic the seller applied. I saw you commented in the thread that Tuffy's bid was conditional. IMO, that's a real technicality. I would hate to see a precedent set for new threads where we can simply start all over and disregard a previous Take It.
