  1. There were also some good deals to be had. I thought that the unrestored Tec 5 in 7.0 for $10,625 was a bargain. As was the unrestored More Fun #35 (one of the toughest MF issues) in 7.0 for only $3,437. The buyers of those books should be very happy.
  2. The prices obtained for most of the pre-hero Tecs were record breakers for the respective grades. Some examples: Tec #1 restored .5: $22,500 Tec #2 restored .5: $4,062 Tec #8 restored 1.8: $4,687 Tec #18 restored 2.0: $5,635 Tec #23 restored 3.5: $5,625 I don't recall ever seeing prices like these in the past. These would have been strong prices for unrestored copies.
  3. Is that the highest price ever achieved for a mid-grade PL #17?
  4. Those are strong prices. The Tec #8 in 1.8 for over $17K, and the Tec #6 in 4.5 for over $13K were also strong prices.
  5. It certainly looks no different now, other than having a fancier gold label. I wonder what "defect" was improved?
  6. That was both interesting and entertaining, thanks adamstrange.
  7. Penalizing non-color breaking bends is the CGC grading practice that I least agree with. And sfcityduck's two examples perfectly illustrate why. I doubt there is a collector out there who, if presented with the same book in the two grades shown, would take the 8.0 over the 7.0.
  8. I was unaware of this. Do you have any further information regarding what was considered "questionable"? Also, does anyone know what this comment in the article is about: "There will also be a shocking revelation of a "Bill Finger-type" forgotten co-creator of a major comic book character who will require comic book history books to be rewritten."
  9. I've loved this book ever since an unnamed boardie showed me his NM copy. The composition of the figures and the lion is beautiful.
  10. That may be a valid complaint, but until the movie is released and we all have had a chance to see it, we have no basis to discredit the negativity by those who have seen it.
  11. Agreed. Some folks collect high grade books, others collect rare books, and some collect both. Regardless, it's always good to get excited about auctions offering books that don't come around every day. This hobby would be a lot less fun if there was no excitement to share.
  12. The HA auction starting on 12/22 has some amazing books in it. Something for everyone.
  13. While prices seemed very high on many books, some of the Promise books got slaughtered, selling for around 50% of their previous prices.
  14. Richard's "avalanche" of books shows why the SF pedigree is held in such high esteem.
  15. That depends on your definition of the term "clearly." As one who has spent a lot of time trying to discern what the stamp says, I must clearly disagree.
  16. I didn't notice the ashcan. Yes, that's a nice touch. Has the auction already started? If so, it appears that you cannot see the pending bids unless you sign up and log in.
  17. IMO, the decision to start off with a very common title with low grade copies was a mistake. If they had started out with some of the extremely rare books, it would have created a buzz that would have drawn attention to the auction as well as future offerings of other lots.
  18. IMO, due to its relative rarity, a MM #7 in mid-grade or better is likely worth more than a MM #2 in equivilant grade. I agree with you that the cover of MM #7 is underwhelming and that #8's cover is better.
  19. Due to its rarity, there's no question that MM #7 is more valuable than MM #3. MM #8 is likely also more valuable. I was surprised to see the high prices paid for the mid-grade copies of Eagle #2 and #4, both of which went for around 10X Guide. I didn't realize this was such a coveted run.
  20. Great job MasterChief!! Can you give us an idea of what titles fall under the "Adventure" category?
  21. The Tec #29 was weighted down more by its slightly brittle pages than by its anchors.
  22. Several of the Promise books that were put on the block for resale sold for 30% or more below their prior sale prices.
  23. All I know is that I find the uncalculated 15% add-on to be very confusing and annoying and I tend to bid less aggressively on those books as a result.
  24. On the other hand, there may still be some deals to be had. For example, this copy of New Fun 5, which has the earliest GGA cover, is still sitting at a measly $1,300, which is way below its FMV: ComicConnect - NEW FUN COMICS #5 - VG/F: 5.0
