  1. Excellent. It is almost time to add a new copy then. Movie hype helped propel it towards the end, but the big jump came in late 2009 through 2010 when people were staking their speculative positions and buying before the movie run up. If I recally correctly, prices were higher then in a lot of grades than the couple of months before the movie. For a time, there were not nearly enough copies to go around as we were all chasing them so demand >>> supply = big leg up in prices. Avengers #1 did this a while back when the movie was announced as well, then dropped like a rock, and is now rising again due to the movie. Post-movie I expect it to drop again as there are so many copies out there.
  2. peewee22 - You could send the B&B #28 in to Matt Nelson to see what color touch "removal" would cost. Depending on how much you have into it, it might be worth it in the end.
  3. If it bothers you that much I can help out I am sure I will part with it some day, but right now I am trying to compile a bit of an Adams hoard again. Sure costs a lot more now than the first one did between 1999 - 2002 or so.
  4. Here was the other nicer Adams book I sent in with the Bats #227 courtesy of an auction lot win last year. The seller had it as a VF-, but it looked great to me when I received it:
  5. Thanks. The spine dings are starting to bug me, but since it is a well centered copy it is a keeper.
  6. Which neck of the woods did that come from? My newest acquisition, the former 8.0 that was deslabbed, came from a great seller located overseas.....It is on the way to CGC now. Should be interesting to see what the grade is this go round. It has one of those small annoying handling creases in the middle of the right side of the front cover, but I have seen slabbed 8.5s floating around with those. On the other hand, with the more accurate grading now, it could end up as a 7.5 instead. The 9.2 came from a boardie a while back but I did not slab it until now.
  7. Thanks. It will go nicely with the 7.0 I just got back from CGC and the newest one, a former 8.0 that was deslabbed. WRT oakman, scans can be deceiving. I would be happy with that type of grading buying from anyone though. (thumbs u
  8. It is coming back as a 9.2 W. It was a pleasant surprise just to the upside, but I figured it had a shot even though CGC has tightened things up properly over the past couple of months ( for CGC).
  9. It is much nicer than 7.5/8.0........the scan makes it look worse than in hand. The guesses a few pages back were 9.0/9.2........
  10. That would go great with the stack of AF #15s I use for TP........... The FF #1s are only good for lining the bird cage............
  11. That would go great with the stack of AF #15s I use for TP...........
  12. Kyle is usually good if you send him an e-mail asking him for payment and mentioning that you do not want to go to NPB report.
  13. Well, the verdict on this copy is in from CGC. I will post the slabbed scan in a week or so when I receive it.
  14. i do this every time. it's all about how the book presents it self and the front cover is what i always see first. The only thing I will not go for on a book is back cover staining/smudging/foxing. Can't stand it. That being said, a perfectly centered 9.0/9.2 that looks like a 9.4/9.6 but with a small light crease or tiny edge tear on the back is fine with me. (thumbs u
  15. Just my 2 cents, but I learned the lesson the hard way when I was building runs that the best books to buy first are the key/high demand issues as they tend to increase in value more than the common issues. (thumbs u This is true and I've not been resting on my laurels as I my recent purchase was a #181 9.4 (thumbs u My problem is I've been upgrading key issues, such as #232 9.4 > 9.8 as well. But if a certain #227 is still around in say 3 months I might just have one (thumbs u Congrats - nice copy of #181. (thumbs u I would stay away from any of the books in 9.8 for right now as any increase in supply will mean further drops in prices. A nice run in 9.4, or even non-top census 9.6, should be fine and hold its value a bit better. There are just too many potential 9.8 copies of these books in OO collections waiting to surface......... Believe me, over the last 2 years my collecting focus has changed and changed! I believe I am at the final stage in terms of what I collect and in what grade FWIW, I am beginning to think that chasing 9.0/9.2 books with a 9.4/9.6 front and a tiny ding on the back that drops the grade is the way to go since 1) in a slab or mylar the front cover is all you can see and 2) they cost a great deal less than a 9.4+ copy.

  18. This is a clear sign that SC #22 is going to be taking off again soon!
  19. I have a few of them up on eBay right now in 9.4 if you are interested..........
  20. They all rose with the GL movie and now have come back down to earth is the take home message, I guess. Regardless of how the movies do, SA DCs just aren't as popular as their Marvel counterparts. It is similar to pricing on GA keys - DC rules while the big Timely books lag behind. It is interesting to see that the BA is a bit of a toss up as prices on the big DC BA books do well compared to the big Marvel BA books. Mind you, remove Neal Adams from the DC side of the equation and it is not even close to being a contest......... Don't forget, the DC bronze age horror in 9.8's are very scarce and will command a premium. Seems like anything with a nice cover drawn by Neal Adams in the BA will fetch a premium. Which is why I buy any HG Adams BA books I come across like an addict. The Adams DCs sell well in all grades, especially the Batbooks. They are the only DCs that Marvel collectors buy steadily from me at local shows. (thumbs u
  21. Some may be harder to find in high grade, but the simple fact is that SA Marvel is collected by probably 10x the number of people as SA DC. They should appreciate in value over time provided the underlying characters remain popular, but it will be at a slower pace than their Marvel counterparts.
