  1. I recently passed the 300 comic milestone in my custom set "THE UNIVERSAL COMIC COLLECTION" and it has been a ton of fun collecting these comics and getting them graded over the years! Please give my collection page a view (link below), there's over 600 photos of my comics and I think I've made the collection pretty asthetically appealing with some simple coding and graphics. The collection includes Silver, Bronze and Modern Age comics and 65 Signature Series signed comics. I've been hoping to be worthy of the "Best Custom Set" and/or the "Best Presented Set" registry award for years. I think the collection is worthy of both, maybe 2024 will be my year? 2. Over the past couple of years I've had a blast (along with my wife) travelling to ComicCons, visiting comic bookstores and searching online to acquire CGC graded comic books and comics to send in for grading. I've evolved to collect comics from all publishers and of numerous characters, as I appreciate the diverse storylines, the amazing art and the hunt for that elusive comic. About a year ago I decided to catalog my comic books within the registry, I don't have any concern for points or standing and I wanted my collection to simply reflect the stories and art that I appreciate personally. As the collection grew, I decided I'd pretty it up a bit, so I learned a little coding and brushed up on my PhotoShop skills. As the collection came together online and it's presentation improved, I decided I'd shoot for a registry award in one of two categories: Best Presented Set and Best Custom Set. I took a lot of time to photograph each comic front and back and to add a brief description of each. I catalogued the set by issue date and added my own custom graphics and dialogue. I thought my chances at one of the two categories were good... but I guess not good enough. The much-anticipated award presentations came and went and the Universal Comic Collection received no accolades. I'll keep at it and add new comics and creative features to the set presentation, maybe I'll be in consideration for one of the awards in years to come? 4. It's been a fun year so far collecting and building my registry set "The Universal Comic Collection" (link below)! I was excited to be able to acquire 14 comics from the McFarlane signing sessions at CGC, these included a variety of his characters: Spider-Man, Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn and Wolverine. These acquisitions brought my collection close to the 200 comic milestone and while quantity has never been a concern or factor in my collection this milestone is a bit exciting! While I really appreciate the Signature Series comics that came from the McFarlane sessions, I'm curious how the rest of you fell about them? I do hope there will be no more signing sessions by Todd at CGC, as to not saturate the market. Have fun collecting and I hope you find the elusive issues you're looking for! 5. MAR1979: the title is completely accurate; I am shooting for a registry award... but that's not the purpose of my set. I want to create a visually stimulating custom set that displays my favorite comics and hopefully it will someday be worthy of a registry award. I'm having fun doing it and enjoying meeting all the fellow collectors, writers and artists along the way!
  6. Thanks for the feedback, it's appreciated! To elaborate on some of it: the purpose of my set is not to win a registry award (although I do hope to, it is rewarding), it is to showcase my favorite comics in fun, visually cool way... no more, no less. Yes, this is "a bunch of random comics", MY favorite comics and that is why it is a custom set. I don't believe comic collecting should have parameters or limits, collect the stories you enjoy and the art that you appreciate! Lastly, the text in the set is meant to be humorous, sorry if it comes off as "Glib Hyperbolic Social Media Text Bites" that is "merely callous shallow twitter type style lacking all substance" . My goal with the set is to have fun, not express to my fellow collectors my inner most feelings about comicbooks. We all have our styles and ways of expressing our love of comicbooks, this is mine. Have fun collecting and good luck finding those elusive comics, hope you all find some great deals!
  7. You've got to have goals right?! I've been a collector of numismatics for decades and recently got into comics. I've had a lot of fun on the NGC graded coin registry and won dozens of awards there, now I'm trying to put together a high-quality comic book collection and build a formidable registry custom set. Over the past year I've gone to several ComicCons and visited numerous comic book stores and acquired some great comics and met a ton of fun folks! I've used my primitive HTML and Photoshop skills to create what I think is a visually appealing registry set and I've taken the time to add front and back photos of each comic along with a brief description and registry stats. I'm hoping to someday take the Registry Award for best custom set or best presented set. The link to my set is below and if you have the time give it a look (feedback is appreciated... good and bad). Have fun collecting and hunting down those elusive comics! THE UNIVERSAL COMIC COLLECTION - Custom Set (collectors-society.com)
  8. Iconics1s, thanks for the feedback. The comics are in order by date.
  9. I put together a custom set in the custom set registry titled the Universal Comic Collection. I spent a bit of time to do some graphic design on it, uploaded photos of all the comics and even did a short write up on each. It’s simply my favorite comics from across all the comic universes. Hope some of you will give it a look and send a bit of feedback if you have time. https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/WCM/ComicCustomSetView.aspx?s=31723
