  1. Inventory turnover is so important, I can't stress this enough. Especially if $1 bin diving could be time better spent elsewhere getting sales......
  2. My approach is - I don't cherry-pick. I only go buy the entire collection as posted for sale (unless it's something that's really out of my price point, which is very, very rare). I hate the guys that strip a collection of whatever key and semi key they can find to leave the collector with a pile of books they can't move/sell.
  3. Looks like the space will work, odd that you can't find bigger rooms at hotels but I don't know which ones are in your area. I do know of a tiny show offered in a mall here, but for those that setup they mentioned they get a lot of random walking traffic....how is that mall, is it depressed - e.g. are half the stores closed down? That might not be a bad thing if you have some stores closed down and don't have to worry about the stores in their complaining about tables being setup in front of them.....
  4. That could be an option too! Start off cheap as an inaugural show and see where it goes....I think once you get a sense of dealer demand, you can figure out the costs associated pretty quickly. If the concern is limited space, maybe you have restrictions at the door keeping capacity to a certain threshold....
  5. Would the hotel/convention centre not have the answers to that?! I don't think he's thinking of having people come to his garage.....
  6. Well I don't the motivation was profit driven, but the OP can confirm. The pure comic show that was setup in my area was specifically designed to keep it only for comics, we have all types of monthly comic/card shows, comic cons (which nowadays are pure money grabs and watered down garbage), and many other hybrid type shows.
  7. I think the easiest answer to this is to setup at a hotel or convention centre. Find the space, figure out how many tables/setups you'll have and cost - charge that appropriately to dealers. Setup a table outside for admission, charge a nominal amount like $1/$2 to at least cover your costs......
  8. I don't think you need cosplay, drinks, other collectibles - etc. We have a comic show that is purely comics only started by the guy that runs one of the LCS. It's a one day event in a hotel convention room with very cheap admission $1/2, and different costs (but reasonable) to dealers. Attendance is good because we get dealers from several hours away, and even some fans! A convention centre or hotel will have washroom facilities, again these are typically day events so unless every one in attendance is 3 years or younger there's no need to have food and drink onsite - I would actually discourage that so people aren't brining it into the main room/hall.
  9. Correction, I just bought something from the global shipping, but the additional charges and imports were reflected in my best offer price. This item is being delivered by a third party company (items left at doors, like Amazon), instead of Canada post which is locked in a secured mailbox. But I understand why you don't want to ship outside of it, for me it's no different than taking the time to respond when someone offers less than a posted price I have on ebay - it's just not worth the hassle.
  10. And as a Canadian resident, I will never buy using the GSP program unless I'm getting a great deal on a book.....the shipping costs (sometimes as high as 3x) makes purchases cost-prohibitive. I've never had a comic not arrive from the US or UK, nor have I ever lost a tracked comic I shipped out.
  11. Way back in this thread I mentioned I was selling an original owner collection of comics. We recently sold off the rest of it as a lot sale, and I knew the buyer and managed to work out a deal for all the remaining ASM and Xmens for my collection. Certainly no steal, but a good price when you factor in the quantity of books and that these will go a good way toward my runs for both series. I think that's it for my buying for awhile!
  12. Nice sale to the owner.....I still can't get over that buyer's premium, holy fack!!@!@
  13. Sorry I already tucked them away - I guess I didn't upload all the pics I took (Including 1,2,4,4,5 of the Punisher Mini Series) as well as a few other books of value...I'll go through them when I have time and chunk out/bulk the stuff I don't want or isn't worth selling individually.
  14. In Canada we get mish mash CPVs on a lot of copper collections....most of us never paid much attention to them until suddenly speculators made a big deal about them 3-5 years ago.
  15. I got it now....sorry, haven't been sleeping much lately.....
  16. Almost as happy as selling a client's home for 10% more than what she wanted to get on Thursday! I'm happy with the book, I'm not picky on grades, it's going to a good home......
  17. Earlier today, even crazier buy....I just so happened to pull up my phone and spotted an ad that seemed absurd. The books posted below for $40!? I sent him a message saying they're worth significantly more and his response was odd, something like 'do you want to pay the $40?' So I sent him a message offering an amount more in-line with the values of the books and I met him within 20 minutes. He then told me he might need to sell his home next year and was very happy I offered him a reasonable price for these comics. The Solar, FF and possibly the Batman are going into my PC. This is another original owner collection, that's his name written on the cover - super cool!
  18. Work's keeping my busy, (which makes these buys that much more special, as I had a rare moment of availability) but I managed to snag back to back deals today and yesterday making these the first comic lot/collection buys in several months......someone posted an add for $300 for 200 comics, no pics but it said mini series wolvie and punisher, so that was all I needed and I was there in 30 minutes. Almost none of these comics had boards, so condition to be expected - original owner that had them for several decades. Afterwards he asked about the DK books and the mini books and I sent him a etransfer for more money to pay for those..... The DK are all firsts, NM/NM+ shape that is going into my PC. The Secret wars set is solid! Alpha Flight 1-40, NM 1-20, TMNT 3 3rd, lots of other mish mash of books. A whole box of Treasuries, Epis, Monster books, etc too not pictured.......The What IF book I need for my run, so I'll toss that in my PC too.
  19. Wow! Side note, that buyer's premium is a %@$*(& joke. It should be capped, 20%!!
  20. So by guy and friend, you mean to say you and your brother.
  21. Except if you're in a position where you need to move stuff....space.....or risk of injury - like that guy that posted hunting through rickety shelving units of longs that almost killed him. Death by a thousand turok 1s....
  22. That's not what happened.....thank gawd, because $200 for those two books doesn't make you a legend it makes you a criminal. I guess criminals can be legends in their own way....
