  1. That's my question as well, and I certainly hope the answer is yes. If a submitter is sending a book to CGC and it gets damaged in transit, that's on the submitter, or on the courier they're using to ship the book(s) (i.e. let's hope the purchased insurance.) But if it happens after CGC takes the book, then that should be on them. No way should the guy have to shell out another $80 to press the books if they got damaged in CGC's care. However, proving that the SCS happened during CGC's transit, and not beforehand, is going to be tough, I'd imagine.
  2. Yeah, it's odd, there was supposed to be a "reset" on October 1st, with Wave 2 hitting. Instead, Wave 2 has trickled out to some stores, not made other stores at all, and like you said, the Mego's have been removed entirely from several locations. Anecdotally, sales on Wave 1 were slow...I mean, heck, they were mostly warming pegs in every store I went to. I hope Target doesn't pull the plug on the project altogether.
  3. I've seen the 2-packs locally, but haven't seen any of the Wave 2 single carded figures around here yet. Frank is the only one I really care about. I had him in my cart on the Target site, but then he sold out. Hopefully he'll pop back up again. i have seen seen some of the wave 2 14" figures locally, but I ordered my set through the website. Right now Target is having a toy sale, something like $10 off of $50, or $25 off of $100 (you may want to double check that). Add red card and free shipping for an even better deal. I think the sculpts are already improving on the wave 2 figures. Wave 3 & 4 should be killer.
  4. Looks like your Scorponok still has the Headmaster (Lord Zarak)! That little Headmaster alone is a $75-$100 piece. I should know, I spent a while trying to complete a Scorponok of my own, and never found one. Looks like you're missing several of the guns and armor pieces (or at least I don't see them in the picture), but yeah, the Headmaster is the real key piece. If you're looking to sell, either clean it all up and sell it with the head, or if you don't want to bother with the body, again, the head alone is worth quite a bit of money. Good luck!
  5. Gah, I just gave away a couple of sets of Six From Sirius this week. Don't jinx this into existence! I'm not looking for another situation where Body Bags inexplicably explodes the day after I gave a few copies away for a buck.
  6. I passed on these at the time, but picked up a few out of dollar bins a couple of weeks ago. They're kinda cool for a buck.
  7. I'd wager that the vast majority of us were surprised/disappointed on our first sub. I know I was. And what I found out was: I wasn't very good at grading. 20 years (or so) of slabbing later, and I'm now moderately ok at grading! There's no question that there are issues with consistency in CGC's grading over the years (tight periods vs loose periods, etc) and no one is perfect, but chances are that your 8.0's truly are 8.0's. If you decide to stick around, you'll learn a lot and will have a lot of fun.
  8. Oooh, jealous, love his stuff. I have a GL cover that he inked, but it's not his style, so it doesn't really count. That Archive v Predator cover is especially drool worthy.
  9. Random pick-up from the LCS last night. A bit beat, but I still love the cover. Babes, bondage, strangely costumed space men, what's not to like?
  10. Sure, but a basic Hot Toys figure is about $250 these days (Oh, I remember when they were $80 a piece...those were the days). These Megos are TWENTY BUCKS. At that price, I'll take both!
  11. Yeah, i mean, i generally know the value of the books I'm looking for. If I buy a book for $2, there's a reason why it's $2, and that's either because it's simply not worth very much, or it's not in great shape. I'm not going to return a $2 book.
  12. As was mentioned earlier, I just recall so many copies of Rom 1 sitting in 25 cent bins for so many years, I just can't justify paying more than a buck for it. Even if a movie comes out and ROM is suddenly a household name, I don't care. I just can't do it. Rom is right there alongside US 1, Team America, and all of the New Universe books in the discount bin of my mind.
  13. For high dollar books, the dealer really should be the first to offer to open it up and let you take a look. The way I usually approach it is to say "Hey, I have cash and I'm interested in the book, if you could just open it up and let me take a quick peek inside, we'll be all good." I don't ask to look at books until I've made it clear that I'm planning on buying them, given that the inside matches the outside. Also, I don't ask to open the books myself, I prefer to have the dealer open the books and take them out, because until I pay for it, the book is still theirs, so if they rip the cover off with a piece of tape getting stuck, that's on them, not on me. For cheaper books, I just take a flyer that the book is probably going to look as good inside as it does outside, but I also tend to buy from the same folks at the same shows, so I generally know that if I have a problem, I can come back and talk to them about it. As for dealers denigrating you and cursing at you, screw that. Do not deal with them, and spread the word that others should not deal with them. There are a lot of jerks and thieves in the hobby, but ther eare also a lot of good, honest dealers. No reason at all to give the jerks any business.
  14. I was really digging DC's covers recently, as they'd gotten a snazzy new trade dress and returned to word bubbles/dialogue on the cover as well. As has been mentioned, it seems like most covers these days are geared towards being slabbed, or turned into posters, or inflating the cost of the original art. I hope DC will give us more of these story-driven covers. This, plus a partial return to newsprint, has me really high on their publishing right now.
  15. Anybody picking up the new Mego figures at Target? The regular sized figures are mostly sitcom related, and don't really appeal to me, but I have been picking up the 14" DC figures, and plan on getting the 8" monsters as well. Dracula is the jewel of the first wave. For $15 it's a nice deal, the cape is especially nice, so thick and soft. The 14" DC figures are hit or miss with sculpts (Batman's giraffe neck being the most obvious issue), BUT, for $20, a 14" figure featuring Mego articulation and sewn fabric outfits is a pretty outrageous deal. I've got these three so far (passed on Zod) and the next wave (Poison Ivy, Batgirl, Superman, Green Lantern) are heading to me now via Target's website. With a red card it's free shipping and 5% off, so a pretty great deal. Wave 2 8" figures are all a miss for me, except for Frankenstein. He was up on Target's site yesterday, but has apparently already sold through. He should be back, though. Same happened with Drac, and he is back online again as well as popping up in assortments in stores. So I will hopefully track down Frank soon. Anyway, it's just really fun to be buying new official Mego figures again! I wonder how much of an impact "The Toys That Made Us" had on the release of this line? The price is right and they're a lot of fun.
  16. Yes, hisstank is a lot of fun as well. I've only posted there a couple of times, but do lurk on occasion.
  17. You should definitely be proud and show it off! Are you in any of the Joe Facebook groups? They'd eat this up.
  18. Nope! I'll leave that to you, the manlier, less scaredy-cat men of the world! I'm quite content to stay as far away from creepy crawlies as possible.
  19. Yeah, awesome, you need to get it out there, youtube or instagram fer sure.
  20. Ugh, don't even like thinking about it! I have tried to grow out of some of my spider fear/hatred as I've gotten older. For instance, outside, I don't mess with them at all (well, unless they're blocking the door to the garage or something.) I figure that's their environment, it's not my place to interfere. But if they make it into my house, well, that's my turf. We may have a problem.
  21. Well, with X-Force 1, it's easy to tell the second prints: they're gold.
  22. We've been in this house for 6 years, and I've never been up there. Could be that there are untold treasures, but more likely the answer to the question "What's up there?" is actually "Spiders. Lots and lots of spiders." And that's why I won't be heading up.
