  1. Apparently the sculptors at Sideshow these days are fans of, uh, "handsome" women. Hey, whatever turns your crank, Sideshow!
  2. Here's a rando question re: a book I found in my collection last night. I am not suggesting that the book is rare, just seemed like the most appropriate thread. I know that bagged direct copies of these book are common as dirt, and newsstands are probably pretty common as well, but this is the first time I recall seeing a bagged newsstand copy. Have I just not been paying attention, was this a common practice with this mini series? I guess my REAL question is: I know that a bagged direct copy is worth about 10 cents, but is it possible that this bagged newsstand copy may be worth upwards of, say, FIFTY cents? (Also, boo to whatever dummy stuck the price sticker directly on the bag, the jerk.)
  3. I loved What The?! SO much when I was a kid. Had a bunch of them, but had no idea the title ran that long. Definitely never ran into a 25 or 26 before.
  4. Yeah, it does. The only other black one I've seen was on an eBay listing that I never bought specifically because it was the only black one I'd seen, so I wasn't sure if it was legit. So this makes two that I've now seen. I've got five of them, and mine are all blue. Does anyone know what the deal is? I mean, yes, I know the difference in the colors blue and black (har har) but wasn't sure if there was a reason for the difference, if it was a random selection by Wizard, or a running change in production, etc.
  5. Hello all, I have two Green Lantern original art auctions up as of this morning, starting at 99 cents with No Reserve. Picked these up at auction within the last year or so, but they don't really fit the focus of my collection. I have three different shows coming up these next two weekends, so just scaring up a little extra spending cash. Nice pages for a GL Fan. Nice Zachary/Pepoy Annual Cover from 1994 https://www.ebay.com/itm/332795525137 Kinky Joe Staton GLC page with Star Sapphire forcing Arisia to lick her boot! https://www.ebay.com/itm/253854597409
  6. Is your Gen 13 binder/folder thing black? All of mine are blue, but I saw a black one on eBay and wasn't sure if it was legit or not.
  7. Hmm, I've got a really sharp Hulk vs Venom that I pulled out of a dollar box last year that I've been sitting on for the right moment. Maybe now is the time to list it.
  8. Thanks, yeah, I'm looking forward to it! It may be a while before we finish the deal, as I'm currently helping him with an enormous CD collection and some other music gear and stuff. But once that's done, we'll turn to the Transformers. Two big tubs full of stuff, should be a lot of fun to go through! I loved Transformers and collected them for years, but eventually narrowed my collecting focus, sold off the collection, and have forced myself to stay away, as I had to admit that I can't afford to collect everything that I like. But the chance to pick up a nice sized collection from someone I know in one fell swoop is more than I can resist. I'll be sure to update the thread once it all happens!
  9. I buy the Gen13 1/2 that came in the blue vinyl portfolio whenever I see them cheap in the wild, which isn't often (I have four or five of them). This is mostly due to nostalgia, as I recall paying about $60 to buy one off of the wall at my LCS way back when it was released. I don't think I've paid more than $10 for any of the copies I've bought since then. I just think they're cool. Picture isn't mine, but this is what they look like.
  10. Thanks guys, appreciate all of the input! For the most part these look to be well played with and probably not 100% complete, so I don't think we'll be talking about a huge investment. There are some nice pieces like Trypticon, Metroplex, Predaking, and most of the first wave of Autobot cars (though I've already witnessed Jazz broken in half.) I'll take a look at recent sales and I'm sure we'll come up with a fair price. Will post them up here once the deal is done!
  11. Hmm, that's interesting! I am planning on picking up a large G1 collection from a friend of mine (he asked me for help eBaying them, I told him I'd just buy them from him directly, but now we have to price it all out.) I haven't kept up with Transformers prices, but have reissues like these and the TRU commemoratives affected authentic G1 values at all?
  12. Stopped by my LCS for their Labor Day 20% off sale, with the intention of just picking up bags, boards and boxes. Turns out they'd just gotten in a small collection of low/mid grade silver Marvels, including this one. It fits directly into my wheelhouse: beat but complete, and cheap! It's a shame about that strip out of the bottom of the cover, because the book is otherwise solid with nice colors. Oh well, the price was right, so I was happy to jump on it. Also, that's what she said.
  13. I got Dave Prowse to sign my Empire Strikes Back poster several years ago. Seemed like a nice guy. He signed it "David Prowse IS Darth Vader". Later, I had Anthony Daniels sign the same poster. He didn't to agree so much.
  14. Awesome, Linda Page! :high five: :cough: :looks side to side: :backs away slowly: :worries that fellow comic nerds will judge him for not remembering who Linda Page is:
  15. Geez, has it been almost a year since this thread was last posted in??? Holy cats. What ever happened with this book?
  16. Talking about one that got away, I owned the original art for this cover, and sold it a couple of years ago, along with the cover to #4. Still kinda kicking myself over that, but it was the right decision for me personally at the time. But yeah, JLI for life, far and away my favorite superhero title of all time.
  17. +1 It all depends on if you're trying to maximize for profit, or convenience. If profit, yes, take the keys out and sell them off separately, then bulk the rest out on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace at $25-$50-$100 a box, depending on what kind of stuff it is. (Modern drek is about 5 to 10 cents a book. Obviously nice copper, bronze and silver would be considerably more, though mid-grade run fillers are still probably not more than a couple of bucks each.) But yeah, unfortunately the market doesn't seem to consist of run collectors anymore, so there's not as much impetus to pick up huge collections. Most dealers who are going to be interested in it are thinking that exact thing: get a good price on the lot, sell the keys, dump the rest. Might as well do it yourself and cut out the middle man. But if it's more about the convenience than the money (meaning you really do just want to let it all go in one fell swoop) you will definitely have to keep that in mind with the pricing. Good luck!
  18. Yeah, was just gonna chime in for Region A boxes. They're swell. I'm also a big fan of the 1092/1095 combo for larger shipments. The Med FRB (shoebox style, not the shirt box style) is great for large lots of cheap raws.
  19. Nice! I missed that one when it was out, and haven't felt like paying the secondary market prices for it since. Glad you got a deal!
  20. Picked up some mailers. I usually wait for these coupons to buy supplies.
  21. The moral of this thread continues to be "Sometimes it really IS worth getting up at 4am on a Saturday to drive to an estate sale in a neighboring state." Thursday night, a buddy of mine who mostly deals in car parts, signage, cans, etc (you know, all of that American Pickers stuff) sent me a link to this sale that was supposed to start at 9am Saturday. I contacted the company running the sale, and they told me that around 6:30 they'd be handing out numbers to those who'd already lined up, so they could come back at 9. I was bound and determined to grab these two books, so I said I'd arrive at 5:30. They told me that "should do it", so I decided to get there at 5. Arrived at 5am, and as you might guess, there was already one kid there ahead of me, who drove an hour and a half to get there, so I figured I was out of luck. But, we hit it off and we made a plan to buy all of the comics and split them up, and he was super cool about letting me grab these two. He was generally interested in the comics, but wasn't really a "comic guy", he just wanted to grab some books to sell, as well as some hot wheels and toys and other stuff I didn't care anything about. So, he let me buy these two, and he bought a nice Amazing Spidey #10, and a handful of other silver age books (X-Men 20, FF 28, some early silver Flash and GL, etc). They're beat but complete, around GD+ to GD/VG on the Avengers 4, and around GD/VG or VG- on the TOS 52. Still very pleased to have these. Will post better scans in the In Your Collection thread.
