  1. At a less reputable shop, I'd agree with you, but they wouldn't pull something like that at my shop. They routinely put hot variants in my holds folder at cover price, never once asked for a mark up. They were shorted on several books this week, had signs up on the stands. I was just curious if this might have been one of them, because there were no copies, variant or regular, on the stands at all. I didn't want one of these, I was just curious about it since I'd seen everyone talking about it.
  2. Ennis is hit or miss with me. I adored his Hellblazer run, and have good memories of Preacher. Didn't care for the Punisher stuff, or a lot of the random war books.
  3. Also a factor in my enjoyment: Ruth Negga is super cute.
  4. I read Preacher as it was coming out, and really loved it at the time, but have never returned to it (too many new things to read.) But it makes sense that the hardcore fans may be turned off by the tone and the unrelated story of the first season. It's pretty different, from what I recall. But I still enjoy it, and am looking forward to watching the new season. I'm assuming most of the comic fans probably checked out a while back, but the previews look more like what I remember of the books. Maybe too little too late to woo the comic fans back?
  5. Love this thread, the gift that keeps on giving. I see tons of stuff I own/ed, and lots of of random things I'd love to have. Comics adjacent ephemera can be such neat stuff.
  6. Yes, absolutely! I remember buying that one off of the wall when I was working at the LCS for about $60. As recently as a year or so ago, I was fishing them out of dollar bins, and have amassed a decent stack of them. (It helps that I also have a great affinity for that initial run). The book seems to be creeping back up a bit these days (seems to be a steady seller around $10 raw NM) but nothing at all like the insanity of those days.
  7. The Missus and I enjoy Preacher. She knows zero about the comics, and it's been so long since I read them, I don't remember a lot about them, so we just enjoy it for what it is. The leads are appealing and enjoyable, and it's a fun, weird, violent little show. So many people seem hung up on the fact that it apparently doesn't resemble the comics very closely. Who cares? The comic is the comic, the show is the show.
  8. Got it, thanks! I've not participated in a sale that was set up that way, but it makes sense!
  9. I feel like folks took the "jerks" thing much, much more seriously than it was ever intended. But if it continues to amuse you guys, feel free to run with it, I suppose. Jerks.
  10. My LCS didn't have any copies of the book, variant or otherwise, but they were shorted by Diamond on some of their other DC books, so maybe that was the case here as well.
  11. That's interesting, how does "the list" work? Does that mean you get to look through everything you want first? Every estate sale I've been to locally had a firm start, so being first in the door may give you an advantage, but basically once the door was open it was bedlam to race and get whatever you wanted, no list involved.
  12. Yeah, I haven't bit on any of the Prime stuff so far because they're so expensive and so enormous, but this may be my first. I was already giving Catwoman some thought. I may need them both. Sideshow's new Poison Ivy looks...ok. But next to the Prime 1, it definitely suffers in comparison.
  13. I think it's because even though it may have had marginally higher initial orders at the time, it took a while for the vast majority of fans of these three franchises to realize that this weird smash up of properties existed. Also, it's a much better read than it has any right to be!
  14. Ok, well 9.4 and up, then, all command a premium. Raw #1 is only a $10-$20 book these days, but that's what I remember it selling for back when it came out, so to me it felt like it hasn't dropped off considerably. But I take your point.
  15. PS: Also Predator 1, 1st issue of the 1st series, is worth quite a bit in 9.8.
  16. Agreed on all except for the Aliens DH series, at least the first six issue mini. 1 & 2 in 9.8 continue to go up. #1 is a $600+ book these days, and #2 is a ghost. I thought I was paying a lot when I spent about $350 on my #1 a couple of years ago, but I'm glad I jumped when I did. #2 is just about impossible to find in 9.8, took me MANY years to finally find a copy. There were only two in the census for many years, but I believe that has jumped quite a bit. Still a tough book. Raw copies may not hit the highs of 1988, but in grade they're still worth hunting and buying for sure. As for the rest of the DH books, it just depends on the series. You can find a lot of the minis littering the 50 cent bins, but there are some series like Apocalypse - Destroying Angels, Xenogenesis and Aliens vs Terminator vs Predator which are fairly tough and command a bit of a premium in complete sets. Individual books are still $1-$5.
  17. Two great books! I've been looking for a nice, not stupidly price copy of that Dolphin book for a while, love that cover.
  18. I can't recall if it's marked inside, but the fastest identifier is the lack of writing along the top (no "3-D zone Number 16", etc.) Here's mine (happened to have a scan of it on my hard drive.)
  19. While I may agree with the writer that Tarr's pricing is ridiculous, his whining about it was a bit annoying. These artists don't owe anybody anything. Either pay what they're asking, or don't. Why spend so much time crying about it? "Disgust". "Pomposity". Jee-zus. Just say "she's charging too much" and move on.
  20. I would, but I better behave myself. I'm supposed to be saving up for the KY Joe con in July!
