  1. Yup, very nice run of books, and complete sets sell decently. But I'd still think they'd have a LITTLE more heat considering the character, artist, and period of his career.
  2. wow, love those all black holos, would love to run across one of those sometime.
  3. Echoing what others have said, it really is as simple as "comics are too expensive." Kids LIKE reading comics, but they're not going to spend that much money on them. $4 for a stapled pamphlet is an old man's game. But whenever there is a Comixology 99 cent sale, or one of thoe absurd Amazon Marvel TPB sales, they sell tons of digital comics. Digital is the future of comic readers. Not of collectors, but of readers.
  4. The McFarlane Marvel Tales books are a sleeping giant. Can't believe they don't get more love than they do. Terrific Spidey covers featuring classic villains and guest stars done by McFarlane IN HIS PRIME. Sure, the books are reprints, but nowadays people just collect covers anyway, right?
  5. Agreed. The response of "Well, no such book really exists" basically leaves the customer without a book and the dealer without a sale. Seems like a no-brainer to say "Well, you know, it's not a direct adaptation, but there are several story elements from Infinity Gauntlet. That might be a good place to start," and then hook the guy up. Any other response is baffling.
  6. Well our closest IKEA is about 1.5 hours away, so it's more of a time sink for me than some folks. But yeah, I guess in general I mean the whole IKEA thing...driving there, walking around that endless show room, being assaulted by meatballs, etc...
  7. Wow, that's a tremendous deal for all three of them, and you didn't have to drive to IKEA either! Sweet!
  8. eBay is what you make of it. If you put the time into searches, you can find some great stuff. I agree, avoid sellers who can't be bothered to post scans or grades; but there are many (including me :cough:) who try to give as accurate a representation of their item as possible. And the deals (especially auctions these days) are plentiful.
  9. Was out of town for FCBD, but did stop in a second hand bookshop while travelling on Saturday, and they were having a back issue sale. Rescued these Dave books from the dollar bins. The World of Woods are in surprisingly nice shape, and of all of the books in the Dave collection, I probably run across these the least. I mean, i have stacks of Alien Worlds and Rocketeers, but I have, like, TWO of these WoW books, maybe. The Rocketeers aren't perfect, but can you ever have too many copies of that cover, both deluxe and standard? The answer is no, you can not. Also, The Thing #1, just cuz it was in nice shape and I always liked the cover.
  10. I use Gemini Mailers, but I also use pre-cut cardboard pads as well, sold by...Gemini! I would never just plop the comic down into the mailer and call it a day. But when properly protected with cardboard pads, they're the best option for fast/safe shipping that I've come across. And as others have pointed out, if you want a little extra security, they fit very handily into a legal FRE. I'm a fan, have used them for years and will continue to do so. Now, for pricier books, I will go with the cardboard sandwich/brick bubble wrapped and foamed peanut-ted in a 1092/1095 combo. But for the $5-$25 books that are my bread and butter, it's Gemini flash mailer all the way.
  11. NICE! One of his all time great covers, and signed too! Oddly on-topic for this thread, this one really is relatively tough in the wild, compared to the rest of his output.
  12. Be sure to let us know, as I was ready to burn this guy's house down. Got the angry mob and torches, the whole thing, all lined up and ready to roll.
  13. Gosh, if that ever actually proved to be true, would my ship ever be coming in!
  14. "Books You Can, and Indeed DID, Find in the "Wild", By Which We Mean a Comic Shop, or a Comic Show, or eBay, or Anyplace That You'd Expect to Normally Carry Comics Like These Comics That You Found, Without Much Effort, Because They're Pretty Common (Plus Image Newsstands!)"
  15. Some people just love to complain. If they can't find a reason to complain about how bad the shipping is, they'll cook up a way to complain about how good it was. I wouldn't waste another minute worrying about it. If you were using a Flat Rate box inside of a cheaper box to ship, maybe, maybe, maaaaaaaybe (and still not really) he'd have a point, but 1092 and 1095 aren't flat rate boxes, they're just boxes that are priced based on weight and dimensions. I don't see how it's any different than the MANY packages I've seen over the years where two priority boxes are taped together to accomodate a larger item, and those are MUCH more obvious (obviously).
  16. Aw, the dumb firewall at work has the site blocked as "malicious", so I don't know if I'm still alive or not.
  17. I bought one of these directly from Steranko several years ago, wonder if he still has a stash...
  18. I'm still highly suspicious about the existence of the "friend". PM sent, don't want to ever make the mistake of dealing with this fraud!
  19. I'm pretty sure there's no "friend" involved here. This turd had buyer's remorse, or he's trying to get the books "lost" and hold onto them for himself. This whole thing stinks to high heaven. You've gone above and beyond to be a good seller and good person, and your rep is gold. At this point you have nothing to lose in outing this loser, who I know we will all want to avoid.
  20. FCBD always coincides with the Kentucky Derby (first Saturday in May) so, since we live in Louisville, the Missus and I always leave town that weekend, to get away from the mess. (We also had our first date on Derby Day, so it's extra special.) So, I am pretty much never in town for FCBD, which means I mostly miss out on the free books and sales at my LCS. I wouldn't mind hitting up the sale (usually 25-40% off, something like that) but I don't mind missing the FCBD books. On the occasion that I am around a comic shop on that day, or if they still have books left after I get back to town, I'll usually pick up whatever Archie book came out, which I'll give a look and then give to my niece.
  21. Yup, was watching the draft last night. Made Lamar Jackson wait until the final pick. My man is gonna make the doubters PAY!
  22. If auction fatigue is real, here's hoping it holds out until the art auctions wrap up next week! (Sorry sellers, I'm cheap!)
