You are right as far as the guidelines are concerned, and the comments above I would have asked via PM (had I gotten involved). However, my opinion strongly differs from yours regarding feedback/references. If I cannot find such in a feedback thread here, or prior sales/buys by the OP, or they do not spntaneously provide it, I do intend to continue asking about that publicly and in thread as I feel it benefits more than just myself. I will of course change that if the sales thread guidelines/rules change. However, for now it is not prohibited by the rules and is generally understood as an appropriate question to ask sellers on here if such info is not provided in the opening of the thread.

Agreed I just felt I had to 'fess up that I do consider it. And of course you are right that we have a number of long-standing posters that succumb to the Dark Side Heck, if I remember correctly one of the recent topics of discussion here (GoodAsh) has been around longer than both of us (at least myself at any rate). In fairness I should not neglect to mention I have had some great conversations and returning customers on boardies that make their first buys in my sporadic sales threads. It's just that seeing that information right under the avatar is hard to miss and on larger deals certainly makes me more cautious.

Do you mean this? We have a standard template recommended by Arch when someone is violating any sales rules. That's the template for rules violations that I was referring to, and it must have been Mike who posted it the last time or two that I saw it in use. (thumbs u So, I'm suggesting we have a much more concise one for threads where a number of community members are concerned without dumping in someone's thread. "no one is standing next to their booth yelling to everyone passing by about how crazy the prices are." This is a fair point, and using a template takes this into account. We might not do this at the shows, but we can certainly take the discussions to places like Annie's List, Yelp, or these boards. Should a sellers asking price and post count be added to the rules then? If I'm correct, the seller in question has violated no rules for the selling forum. No, post count shouldn't be included at all, IMO. Additionally, the only aspect of pricing that need be included in forum guidelines already is--a price must be listed that the seller will sell the item for. If someone wants to price something at an outrageous amount, that's his or her call. I'm only suggesting this as a means of redirecting commentary about a seller's thread to the correct place--here, and not in his or her's sales thread. I agree that some folks were a bit out of line...felt adding a comment would only make it worse so I avoided the thread entirely. Yes the price was way out of line...and in my mind the reasoning for such was pretty poor (pricing as if the back cover did not exist ) Nonetheless, he did everything he was supposed to do...full disclosure, attempts to reassure buyers with further info/discussion, etc. At that point, it is his chunk of internet real estate and our agreed upon etiquette here is to leave him alone (and honestly the thread would have died a quick death if not for the pricing comments). Hell he even ran a grading thread on the book (the link to it was posted late, but it had been there all along for the dilligent buyer to find by checking his previous posts). Anyway, the one thing I will throw in here (since the above has been said by others) is that post count DOES matter. I know we want to treat everyone equally, but the simple fact of the matter is that if you come in just to sell or buy (not saying that was the case here, just generally speaking) it raises a red flag during your first bit of time here. I routinely post in threads of those individuals (that have something I am considering) asking about references/feedback. I do not do that with long-standing boardies (even if it is my first transaction with them, since I have seen them successfully complete others). Anyway, that concern is triggered almost solely by post count/registration date (sometimes people jack their posts up quick in the testing threads and whatnot). I try to be polite about the request, and suggest that contributing to the community would put more buyers at ease and increase the likelihood of their thread being a success, but I do factor that information in

Neff had a thread up for awhile indicating that some books were at CGC and coming back soon. Sales would fund his charity called comics for kids. Also, he solicited additional donations from boardies. Thread stayed pretty dormant for awhile (and think boardies went easy on him for a number of listing violations due to the charitable nature of the endeavor). Fast forward a week or two, I think and books are listed. Some books are listed as already sold (without prices and the previous indication of it being an auction). Some questions ensue as to how this occurred. Answers were a bit dodgy. Further digging (once people's radars went up) found some weird eBay listings (including advertisment for some salacious materials including a young Traci Lords prior to the age of 18). Also, it became less clear if any funds were being used to pay for the charity itself or the poster's personal expenses on a trip to a Comic convention. Some more , , and followed. Apparently, some other boardies had dealt with his charity before (or at least offered advise on making it an IRS friendly endeavor). More shifty responses from the OP and a cancellation of his sales moving everything to eBay. Further digging revealed links to an organization that is out of compliance/registeration with local authorities/agencies. Also, it has not been registered appropriately with the IRS to make donations tax deductible. Now, keep in mind this was a process that evolved over a bit of time and my memory may be off...I am sure folks will correct any errors I made The long and the short of it is that reassuring answers never really were posted and the OP kept insisting on resolution through email/PM. So no real answers, but certainly some flags to be cautious in my opinion.

Weekends and evenings see more thread postings in my opinion (especially seems to be a good number of threads started on Saturday). The thing about here is that the eBay Sunday thing represents numerous auctions ending. Your thread can run here as long as you like (thumbs u About the only advice I have about thread success/start times is a bit tangential (since I think starting at any point in time really offers little in the way of harm). First, if possible avoid listing on days that any attention you get would be steam rolled by a big thread put up by a popular seller (sucks up people's funds and attention). Secondly, I have never ceased to be surprised by folks that list for eight hours, twelve hours, etc. and subsequently start griping before pulling their threads within the same day as listing. Be patient It is okay to let a thread run more than twelve hours. Also, we know it is a pain to scan and list, but PLEASE do not insult the buyers, call us cheap, or generally on the boards as a whole (believe it or not you see this in little snide comments or complaints by the poster on a not infrequent basis after they appear to get frustrated by not generating as many sales as they would like). Make the thread a welcoming place...sit back and enjoy the company (thumbs u

Yeah, still feel uneasy about how things were left so I posted in the advertising thread asking for further clarification as to whether this was indeed a charitable auction. Also, reminded the poster of the rules to sell on the forums (OP claimed that in part the reason for the mess was folks not reading his initial post). Unfortunately, I did read it and there were a number of issues...I initially figured it was for a good cause and did not give the old over rules, but perhaps that was a poor decision on my part?

Interesting topic. As have others, I too have been too eager to buy only to realize later that the book was coming from Canada/Overseas. I honestly do not think any of the folks across borders are purposely vague to juice sales though. How to fix this, I am not entirely sure. Honestly, when I sell, I want to give international folks a shot at the books (they get unfairly shut out of a number of threads in my opinion). However, I am not enterprising enough to list costs to every possible country and use the generic "outside of the US will be at cost." I guess that does self-identify my location for the people buying. In truth, this has not really been significant enough to stay on my radar as a concern  However, it will be interesting to see what folks have to say, and if this has been more of a chronic cost/difficulty for others.

Interestingly, I have seen many a case of parental incest (even moreso down to the aunt/uncle level...and quite creepily a number of grandparent cases). However, in seven years of practice down here, only one sister/brother case...of course I am in a University town Maybe I need to get out to those rural counties where they keep hiding bodies in coal mines Of course, if I remember correctly you are also residing in the former confederacy...how they comin' with the flushable toilets in your neck of the woods?

I actually agree with you on something. WTFudge?! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes... the dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! Ye Gods...the Bosco and SE on the same side of the fence...truly the end times are upon this board

And I want to know as much as I can about the condition of a comic when I can't see it in person. Period. I could be wrong here (speaking from my own perspective which is obviously a bit different). But I think it is not you seeking the information so much as the attitudinal component.,.subjecting every seller's threads to YOUR personal views just seems a bit rude for lack of a better term. It seems to me that you would be welcome to ask whatever you want of the seller via PM as well as post concerns you have in what has been identified as the appropriate place (by consensus not unanimity I realize ) I really think you are risking alienating some folks here...as well as proposing a pattern of behavior that could easily become destructive in the marketplace (good intentioned as you may be, but you have to realize some of the grudges folks have here, and the acceptance of disrupting sales threads in the way you did could lead to a free for all ). Well put He's a shrink. So is that an endorsement or condemnation?
