I Always liked the personal artwork thread so it was one of my first stops. By the way, Daredevil has been my favorite since the eighties when I first started reading comics.

I took a chance and pre-ordered Destiny the other day. I guess it wasn't much of a chance since it was only 5.00. Anybody got this game on their radar as possibly the next big leap forward in FPS or video games in general? If anybody can give us the next big thing, Bungie can...or Bioware

Is it just me or does SquareEnix release awesome games? Great reviews for this on Metacritic.

I have a few Kotobukiya statues in the house. Decided it would be fun to put one on paper, since I never take the darn things out of the box and I don't really get to enjoy them that much as a result. I took a photo from a position I liked and went from there. I changed a few things with the hair and I added some details here and there. Then I got the idea that since it was a Bishoujo statue that I should turn it into sort of a Japanese comic cover. I'm not positive that is how you write Black Widow in Japanese, I used an English to Japanese translation app on my iPhone, so it is what it is. Regardless, the point is made I guess. I'm at a crossroads on how far to take this. Part of me wants to add some value to it another part of me wants to leave it as a line drawing and just ink it. My wife and I are playing Borderlands 2 as well. Our code phrase for initiating a play session if we are sitting around doing nothing is "wanna go blow some mess up?" Once one of us says that,it's on! I'm itching to go and buy Ni No Kuni. A JRPG by Level 5 and Studio Ghibli, yes that Studio Ghibli. It's getting great reviews. Also, XCOM: Enemy Unkiwn is an awesome game for us strategy game guys.

To Sufunk: Yeah, old house are great, the craftsmanship that they used to employ back then just cant be matched today. Nothing against new houses, it just wasn't an option my wife and I even thought about.

My wife and I and our three kids live in a 1200 square foot ranch house. It is crowded to say the least. I have always been envious of all the cool comic rooms you guys post on the boards. I've managed to scrounge out a "comic corner" in our current house. All that is about to change, we are moving to a much larger house and the best part is it has 5 bedrooms...one more than we need. You know what that means? That's right baby, a whole comic room for myself, my wife even gave me the approval...ok well, sort of, it's a comic room slash guest room, but I'll take what I can get. Best part is, when my parents come to visit they get to sleep in there. It will drive them absolutely crazy that I never completely grew up and I still collect comics to this day....bwwahahahaha!!!!!! Gratz! I've been looking for that book in 9.8 forever! I know what you mean! I thought for sure I'd be dropping big bucks to get this in my collection. They rarely come up for sale, making it that much harder. This book is what the hobby is all about....the chase.It's always such a rush to find a hidden gem like this just waiting out there for somebody to find it.

Got eight books back on Tuesday. This one is the one I was most excited about. I bought this last year raw from Superworld. He had it listed at NM+ but told me that he thought it had a good shot at 9.8. I took a chance on it. I held onto it for about 6 months trying to decide what to do with it. I considered pressing it to increase the chances of getting a 9.8, but based on what I saw going on with the spine, I thought it might actually decrease my chances so I submitted it unpressed. Here is the result. This along with the Hulk cover are the two hardest Miller Daredevil's to get in 9.8. I want to give a big thank you to Superworld for their fantastic grading and great deals. I've got several auctions on eBay for some new DC 52 titles. I'm completely surprised at this point, my suicide squad 1-5 lot has gotten the most interest. That's up against Action Comics 1-5, Detective Comics 1-5 and a bunch of others. What's the deal with that? I'm interested to see where they all end up this afternoon once the auctions have ended.

This first cover is super sweeeeet and having Steigerwald makes it that much cooler, don't have a siggy from him since the Turner days When I saw all three guys were gong to be at Dragon Con, I nearly wet myself I was sooo excited. I wish I would have gotten the regular cover signed by all three guys as well. Funds were tight at the time because my wife had just surprised me with tickets to wizard world Chicago, so I was trying to save up money for that at the last minute.

Some Moderns that I got graded. I have a Lady Mechanika Universal Outpost.com edition that seems to have been misplaced by the guy who got the sigs for me...hopefully we find it. But here are the rest. I thought the grades on the 9.6's were a bit tough, I can see maybe on the ComicCentral version because of the top left corner, but I'm happy with them all regardless. The first three are signed by Benitez and Steigerwald and the Campbell variant is signed by Campbell, Benitez and Steigerwald. Daredevil #16 Signed by Stan Lee and John Romita. I bought this one when I was about 16 years old back in the eighties. Thought it would be nice to have it signed, since I had held onto it all these years. It was a Universal 8.0 previously...oh well, the sigs more than make up for it. Shane killed Otis, Dale doesn't trust Shane to not do the same to somebody in the group...hide the guns, problem solved, at least as far as shooting somebody goes. Also, that was the best episode of the series.

Oh my, I just got to Edmure's wedding in "A Storm of Swords". I have goosebumps and I am totally speechless. George Martin has done it again, just when I think I am prepared for whatever he might throw at me...he blindsides me.

I saw Max at the mailboxes and parcel depot the other day. I just finished the first Drizzt book, liked it more than I thought. Back to Game of Thrones third book, A Storm of Swords.

I have those books as well, but like I said, with books I don't gleam as much. I'd would venture that these DVD's are more geared towards Comic Book art training, but there are solid fundamentals in there as well. Gnomon has a ton of different DVD's though. Also, I wasn't trying to suggest that deviantart is only for amateurs, I was just trying to say it is a nice way to get your work out there without being a professional and all the resources and contacts that professionals have.

As I have mentioned before, I recently picked up some DVD from the Gnomon Workshop website. I've tried books in the past, but I found that I learn much better if I watch somebody else apply the techniques, rather than just reading about it and then trying it on my own. Anyway, the first DVD I am watching is titled Dynamic Figure Drawing Volume 1: The Head. David Finch is the instructor, yes that David Finch. There are three volumes of the Dynamic Figure Drawing that he does and each is 2 - 3 hours in length. The other two volumes encompass the body(volume 3) and then the hands and feet(volume 2). I'm only into the first few chapters because I am trying to treat it very much like homework or something similar...doing lots of repetition, watching the lecture more than once, etc. One of the first thing he suggests is practicing the basic form of the head...just so you can repeat it in just about any position. Nothing fancy, just sketching. He then moves on to the other parts of the face and talks about each one individually. I think the coolest thing about the DVD is how much it has already made me aware that all my preconceived fears(all the things holding me back all these years) were completely unfounded. I thought these guys just sat down at a table and whipped this stuff out without a second thought. But David Finch mentions it several times and you can see it in action, that certain head angles, etc. are more difficult for him and still give him problems. That knowledge in and of itself gave me loads of confidence, because it would be at that point, when I reached a spot in my artwork that was causing me problems and I couldn't do it like I wanted, I would get discouraged and say to myself I'll never be able to do what those guys do...what's the point. That lack of confidence has held me back for far too long. Anyway, this is the very latest thing I have done. I haven't done a "finished" piece of work for some time. Life usually gets in the way, but I am trying to change that. I did this last night after watching the eye chapter again, eyes haven't ever really been that big of a problem for me, but I did learn something from his lecture. These two pages were quick sketches and took me less than a half hour...the head on the page with the eyeballs if wonky because I had the paper at such an angle and too far away, I didn't realize until I turned it upright how his face was off, but it was just practice anyway. Thanks! My personal favorite is Bride of Frankenstein - I did it early on when I was developing my style. It came out looking great, but I could never recapture the nuances I put into it.
