  1. Even the ho-hum animated feature Justice League: Doom had the poignant feature of the late Dwayne McDuffie in A League of One: The Dwayne McDuffie Story. I know boardies might get annoyed with me about giving the lesser funnybooks a chance, but I can't tell you enough, I watch a lot of movies and behind-the-scenes stuff. I have a wealth of knowledge to offer when I can.
  2. Like I said, I really was gonna enjoy this thread. Why not throw in some animated films too. DC's animated Wonder Woman had utterly well produced docs on her character through the years. Wonder Woman: A Subversive Dream Wonder Woman: Daughter of Myth Historical Amazon Lore and it's Evolution into the Modern-Day Wonder Woman Character Hopefully, Bosco can track these down to embed in the thread. Great stuff!
  3. Not a big fan of Ghost Rider (2007)? No problem. (thumbs u Just watch over two hours of new docs, Spirit of Vengeance, Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Execution along with Sin & Salvation (40 years of the character) on the two-disc Extended Edition..
  4. The Mask retrospective "Return to Edge City" was a nice piece as well. So many good and imformative specials around.
  5. Ahhhh... Then there was Dredd. Mega-City Masters: 35 Years of Judge Dredd Day of Chaos: The Visual Effects of Dredd 3D Dredd Featurette Dredd's gear The 3rd Dimension Welcome To Peach Trees Dredd Motion Comic prequel It felt like the featurettes went on and on and on. I almost hoped they would never stop.
  6. I was gonna say that one next ^ The Conan reboot had a fascinating one called "The Conan Legacy" with the whole history of the character, then had another called "Robert E. Howard-The Man who would Be Conan" giving us a poignant glimpse of his troubled creator. It was unforgettable. Then there was an interesting retrospective doc on the 1982 original called "Conan Unchained: The making of Conan". A must for fans of the original. I loved it!
  7. Like Adele Blanc-Sec, I had absolutely no knowledge of where Snowpiercer was gonna go and was worried I wouldn't "get it", so I watched the doc "The Birth of Sowpiercer" and became immediately aware of it's history. Not your standard Hollywood puff featurette either. (thumbs u
  8. The 3 documentaries to the groundbreaking Superman: The Movie are absolute must sees for folks who want to see the behind-the-scenes of an impossible production in the mid-70's that was brought to life. Taking Flight: The Development of Superman Making Superman: The Filming of a Legend The Magic Behind The Cape then you have Superman II: Restoring the Vision which in my opinion was better than the actual Donner Cut.
  9. "Acts of Violence" from A History of Violence was a great opening doc to the opening featurettes: Violence's History Too Commercial for Cannes The Unmaking of Scene 44
  10. Being a descendant of one of the biggest serial killers of the 20th century, I always was interested in the forensics went into investigating and capturing them. From Hell's 2-disc set gave us a slew of docs of Jack The Ripper! "Jack the Ripper: 6 Degrees of Seperation" an interactive investigation. "A View From Hell" HBO special "Tour of the Murder Sites" and so much more! One of the best reasons to collect DVD's at the time.
  11. The making of The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec gave this New Hamshire fella a better understanding of her French comic origins, that helped me propel into her first outing with a rich knowledge of her past and what was to come.
  12. The only reason to own the Catwoman disc is the documentary "The Many Faces of Catwoman" hosted by Eartha Kitt. It provides a better view of the history and shows directions the movie should have went.
  13. Oh, I think I'm gonna like this thread! Yeah, Shadows of the Bat was a great series. 1-3 can be found on the 2-disc Batman DVD. 4 (Dark Side of the Night) on Batman Returns. 5 (Reinventing a Hero) on Batman Forever. 6 (Batman Unbound) on Batman & Robin. Once these discs price crashed to $4 at Walmart last year, I finally bought Batman & Robin just for all the documentaries and director's commentary. Worth every penny just hear how the director had no power of developing the movie (the toy companies did!).
  14. He's really great in it. He plays an outsider, and thus is proxy for the viewer, fully bringing us into a rich, distinct culture. (thumbs u
  15. I need to see this now. Holy s ! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_box_office_bombs It's the biggest box-office disappointment of all time (when inflation is adjusted). I'm telling you, this movie had packed showings in my neck of the woods. But then again, so did The Edge and that didn't do so well either. Must be a regional thing.
  16. It's been really fun counter-programming in between the big screen movies during the past year. I envy anyone just discovering these gems from DC right now.
  17. Yeah, make a DREDD 2 I mean sell the film rights back to Marvel Dredd 2 would be awesome if the same creative team were somehow still involved too. I did a House of Corrections interview and I swear they wanted guards like Karl Urban's character. Here I am on Facebook taking care of baby raccoons. I didn't stand a chance to look tough after a quick background check. "Sorry Jerel, you're way too nice" Karl Urban is my hero. It must have been such a hard balance for that character to not look like a complete jerk on screen. But there he was, evolving his character arc (with subtle body movement) under a helmet during the whole movie!
  18. I need to see this now. Nope you need to see the Fantastic Four (2015) first instead of continually bashing on a film you have never seen. You gonna pay for my ticket? I will....if you go see it and totally hate it, I will PayPal you $10 to offset your ticket. That's how much I believe that this movie doesn't suck. I'm not even an FF guy. Jim Do it big brother. Oh don't worry,I'm going with him if he goes see it. I can't leave him to watch it by himself (thumbs u Have fun!

  20. I need to see this now. You've never seen it? You're in for a treat because it's great! I agree that a young Vladimir Kulich would have made an incredible Thor One of the few movies I also purchased the soundtrack. And it was worth it! His Thor would have been legendary. Watched the last 50 minutes Monday with the sound cranked all the way up. It was a brilliant score indeed.
  21. Bought Glee Season 4 today for a few bucks. Melissa had a big role in it and I was curious to see her in other stuff. Granted, I never had a taste for Glee other than to watch Idina play Lea Michelle's mother, so I figure I'm in for some sufferin'.
  22. Vladimir Kulich would have made a great Thor in his younger days at 6'5" tall. He was fantastic as Buliwyf. He's also in the movie 'Ironclad' with Kate Mara and James Purefoy. He had so much dignity in that role. He could have easily overplayed it. It definitely was a generous ensemble that elevated it. Also kudos to Antonio Banderas for not obstructing his cast member's big heroic moments. Wow, it's great to hear others talking about how much they enjoyed this underrated film. I felt it's marketing campaign really killed it at the time.
  23. I agree completely. My wife really enjoyed the film and made the comment that it was way better than the 'silly' earlier movies. My wife likes Twilight and Beyoncé. Just because our wives or kids like something doesn`t mean we as adult males will enjoy it. Different perspectives for all. With that being said I`m going to see this tonight with my 18 year old nephew and his ex-jock father. I`ll get three reviews to post here after 11.pm est. The 18 year old is a comic geek, while his father thinks super hero movies are lame. Will see what the consensus is tonight. I think that Jim's comments speak more to what he enjoyed about the film rather than noting that the people he went with enjoyed it as well. Saying that my wife enjoyed it certainly did not mean to imply that that informed my decision/enjoyment. I would have thought that obvious. I know some husbands/boyfriends who try to pull off, well my wife/girlfriend liked it, so it must be intelligent or hip! You know the type. Hence, why I used Twilight as an example. My wife loves it, but I think it sucks. Bought a girl's beloved Blu Ray collection (all five-four being director's cuts) at a yard sale for $5 (she also let go her exclusive 3-disc Target versions too in the deal). I couldn't stand New Moon and never went past that one, but I think Anna Kendrick is a goddess (Ashley Greene too), so I figured when I got snowed in this winter and was desperate for "new" programming in NH.
  24. Holy ! I didn't know that. That's awesome. One of my happiest theater experiences is seeing this movie with a Titanic sized audience on it's opening weekend. Everyone was reacting to it in awe. I even went to it again. I genuinely thought it was gonna have a $30 million opening weekend for an r-rated film. Jerry Goldsmith's First Blood-type musical score was my favorite in this too. When they snuck up to the caves and stormed inside, I was on the edge of my seat. I'm a pretty big guy and I'm always calling my smaller co-worker "little brother" when he struggles trying to lift something to keep up with me. great movie.
  25. Unmitigated disaster. Trank just received a huge thank you from Kevin feige. The ff will be coming home. At least Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have made some money, though a dog. I finally found a credible source that captured the production and PAE. Should Sony Panic About The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Box Office Sales? Based on those numbers, even if you gave them 75% of the American Box and 50% of the Foreign Box, that's still a loss. If you are talking box office only, that would be correct but I was shocked to see some of the other revenue sources. Foreign and domestic dvd sales were something like $90mm w/ 90% margins. Deadline did a detailed analysis of 20 movies from 2014 and ASM 2 was #18 iirc and was profitable to the tune of $70mm. Someone at work that purchased the Blu-Ray knew I was a fan of comic book movies. After watching it once, he asked if I wanted it for free. I told him thanks, but no need for such kindness. I bought it on a 'blind buy' myself. I find it's only watchable in pieces, like those 2nd unit sequences in the some of the more blander Roger Moore Bond films of the late 70's in the early 80's. Compared to Batman & Robin, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Spirit, Jonah Hex, RIPD, Catwoman and other terrible downright funnybook movies, ASM 2 is a two star movie. Since I don't base any judgement on negative boardies who base their opinions on box-office mojo or Hollywood gossip, I'll take the high road on voicing an opinion on FF before I view it myself. One of my top 100 favorites of all-time was the "mega-dud" movie The 13th Warrior, which always had packed showings, yet only lasted two weeks. Another "comic-book"-type dud (critical-financial) I enjoyed from Fox, was Ravenous too.
