  1. I see what you mean on the majority of animated directors. But, Brad Bird did the a fine job with Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol after all of his animated efforts for at least one example that comes to mind.
  2. Really loved those sweeping epic battle scenes in Breaking Bad and WD. Wanted to stand up and yell Sparta after them. Maybe Lauren Montogomery is available? Her animated directing efforts include the spectacular Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, the solid Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight and Superman: Doomsday, plus the best segment in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights. Plus, she's a chick (a very cute one) who knows her woman superheroes. My
  3. Had you read Dark Knight? It's all there. just being facetious It's actually quite the epic fight. Well worth the $7.50 Walmart is charging right now. And with a little help of a one-armed Green Arrow and kryptonite arrow... I loved how Superman ripped open the Batmobile and Carrie Kelly had her slingshot drawn. She wasn't down without a fight either. (thumbs u
  4. That Batman vs. Superman trailer was terrible. No it wasn't. It's wasn't anything amazing yet. But it gave clarity to part of the tension from Man of Steel will be Superman being viewed as one of the aliens that caused all that destruction. I can see how Luthor would use this to convince Superman to do something beneficial to mankind, like taking out a vigilante like Batman. Yes it was terrible. Pretentious, portentous piffle. OK kids, today's secret word of the day is piffle. When you hear the word 'piffle', scream as loud as you can.
  5. Just finished Batman Vs. Robin. Even though a second grader could figure out the villain's hidden identity by their first appearance, I still very much enjoyed Jay Olivia's follow-up to the solid "Son of Batman" movie. I look at it at as more of an equal and a worthy continuation of Damian's story and this is only the second act of the route he is going to take towards the Mantle of the Bat. I'm hoping there is a third movie to finish his unique storyline. Jason O'Mara as Batman's voice easily rivals the great Kevin Conroy (who lends his voice as Thomas Wayne). Even "Weird" Al Yankovic's Dollmaker conveys sympathy for basically a very sick person, for what limited time he has. Jeremy Sisto's voice (Like Darkseid's in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse) might be a bit too calm and seductive for the mayhem he creates, for my tastes. Most of his 'drama' scenes just fall flat. But, a (thumbs u nevertheless. 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse***1/2 3. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies***1/2 4. The Batman Superman Movie***1/2 5. 6. Directed by Sam Liu, I'm onboard. He's worked on some the finest animated DC movies (All-Star Superman, Batman: Year One & Superman/Batman: Public Enemies).
  7. Yeah, I'm having a Batman Vs. Night tonight. Batman Vs. Robin & Batman Vs. Dracula. Still haven't opened Interstellar or John Wick, yet.
  8. Finally got see SubZero. I really enjoyed it. Loved it's old fashioned Max Fleischer animation and the sound effects editing was top notch. Barbara Gordon's "linework" rivaled Jessica Rabbit . All-in-all way better than the Clooney/Mr. Freeze live-action opus. My only jeer would be how abruptly it ended. Batman Beyond: The Movie (techically the retooled pilot to the series) was a perfect companion "movie" to SubZero. 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse***1/2 3. 9. You're making me spend money every time you post a review. Just don't get All-Star Superman.
  10. Nothing personal my friend, just was a little taken aback. I've always thought they graded on structure as well as cosmetic appeal.
  11. I noticed the dvd to Batman Vs. Robin no longer offers the double disc treatment. Most of the extras are on the Blu Ray only which has been cranked down in price. Have to admit I saw it coming. DVD is a dying format. Most new releases are all bare bones in the extras department in any genre. I don't mind owning these type movies though, as I slow down buying movies on disc.
  12. You're making me spend money every time you post a review. These animated ones are really helping me strengthen my funnybook movie section. It's been lopsided with mediocre ones like Howard The Duck, Underdog, Man-Thing, The Scribbler, etc. I am pretty cheap buying these though. At a yard sale last summer I saw Green Lantern: First Flight in pristine condition for $2. I picked it up and the woman said, it was animated, so I put it down. Then she said "A quarter".
  13. Just finished it after picking this up from Walmart. - Story that still delivers in an amazing way. - Voice actors that really make the characters come to life. - Fantastic soundtrack. You are so right. This is top of the heap when it comes to animated movie making. Watched Pt1 again last night because of this thread. It is a masterpiece. I was also struck by what Miller was noticing culturally in '86 that's so amazingly relevant in 2015. The mayor choosing "to negotiate" because "it's what the polls" suggested. Freaky relevant to today's world. And all that TV noise and victimization psycho-babble. Miller truly was a visionary, wasn't he? And that's without even bringing up Daredevil. I've always been more of a movie buff and I never read the series this was based on, so I had no idea where this thing was going, but I could feel the utter power of it. It totally inspired Burton's Batman as well as Nolan's Dark Knight, you could add RoboCop to that list as well (with all those Network news interuptions, ultra violence, political satire, punk's eye view, etc). I'm surprised the producers didn't run with Miller's scripts of RoboCop 2 & 3, instead of playing it reasonably safe. I cannot wait to watch this one again. (thumbs u
  14. OK, Batman Vs. Robin purchased, looks like another animated DC weekend!
  15. I really don't know why they have to cancel it so quickly. You would think a licensed DC property would be more regarded as a potential sure-fire netflix sales item down the road. Have a Canadian or German producer finance 12 episode seasons, and NBC can aquire it for a limited Summer run or something (Rookie Blue/Transporter?).
  16. Already have it on a bootlegged Katy Perry music video DVD. (thumbs u
  17. 'Tiger sidekick'? Someone's been watching Katy Perry's 'Roar" video a little too much, me thinks. Maybe 'Kitty Purry' has become the new symbol of trailblazing women.
  18. I know Batman & Robin came out today, but somehow I picked up Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero instead. Super stoked to watch that one (Batman Beyond: The Movie is included on that one) and I'll pick up the new release tomorrow or something. Pretty excited to take my DC animated list to 25 by Saturday. Never thought I was ever gonna catch up on them.
  19. I guess she was only 25 when the series begun. Granted, she looked 35 though. Ironically, she still looks 35. Gotta say, I was a huge fan of Season 1's "Squeeze" episode (I've been watching the show for the first time recently).
  20. We'll see how well Cahill's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. does at the box-office, before he get's top billing. Cold Light of the Day my butt!
  21. She was the only reason I watched AOTS I heard Jamie Chung wanted to play Psylocke so bad she practice Betsy's British accent. My guest is they casted Munn because she's well known to fans. It also helps that she's a nerd. Maybe Jamie Chung's involvement in Disney/Marvel's "Big Hero 6" hurt her chances with FOX? I personally love her and she can act, even in a thankless movie like "The Abduction of Eden".
  22. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition is a friggin' epic masterpiece! Four stars. Best animated funnybook movie hands down! 1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns**** 2.
