World's Finest #92 has a really dynamic look. Silver mentioned that #91 seems to turn up occasionally - yet only one issue later and this book is hardly seen at all.
Superman finally gets a side-kick, at least for a short while...
Agreed! Stunning copy of a very difficult issue! The 90's WF are overall tough to get in grade. The 91 is the only exception in my opinion. Beautiful book Ian!

I like the aliens on this Superboy sci-fi cover!
Amazing Ian, I just received this book in the mail today. This particular issue was a pain to locate in nice shape. It's amazing how some issues are so much more difficult to get in nice shape than others. The WF 91 I have seen more than a few nice copies, and you would think it would be scarcer due to 1957 being generally more difficult to find in grade than 1961.

That 132 is better than "ok"

Nice book! That & The LL 15 were ones I was referring too! I'd be happy with that copy!
Soon as I upgrade, you will be first to know!
I recently upgraded this:
to this:
Would like a similiar copy for that 132.

I've been noticing increased competition for the DC 10 centers in high grade -- I think this thread may have contributed -- showing all these incredible books!
Thread closed!

Shiver,
Not all my books are high grade. Here is an example of one I would like to upgrade and is the same type of cover as the Adventure you posted:
I had a very tough time finiding a nice copy of this book, so when it got down to this being the last issue I needed between 129-200 I just got myslef a "placeholder"...unfortunaltely I have only seen one graded copy since then that I liked and it went for more than I wanted to spend. Which brings up a different point...I don't spend "stupid" money on my books. I may occasionaly pay more than I would like to but I am generally conservative. Being a higher grade collector who always watches what they spend can be a bit frustrating, but also pretty rewarding when you get some of those books you have been looking for.
By the way...the last of these types of covers can be found in Lois Lane 15, which I do not have a copy of. Perhaps Steelcity or someone else has a nice copy of the book to post.

The back covers are quite often better than the front covers -- as in the wonderful example below from Silver. Even in high grade most of the front covers would look pretty lame -- non-descript Romita.
I'll take non descript Romita anyday over much of what passes for art in modern comics. Romita
If those were the options I would go with Romita as well. I have a handful of the DC Romance issues so there are definitely ones that I like -- but I have found that I like the back covers better.
Atlas, btw, has some very nice romance covers in this time period. Most of them are not good (Atlas was a factory producing way too much product) but in process a minority of them are quite good. Vince Colleta (an evil name to some due to his inking of Kirby) knew how to draw attractive ladies.
Let's see em!
By the way...I found one more 10 cent romance I didn't realize I owned...I will scan it soon.

For the folks who like nice bright colors....that pink is the same color as my daughters bedroom...

This recent addition plugged in a hole to complete 110-121 for me. I like it when a set starts coming together:
I wonder if Mel Gibson used this as his inspiration for Apocolypto

I would love it if people posted more 10 cent romance books. You just NEVER see them.
Wish I had more, those were some fluke finds on eBay. I wish Michelle Nolan frequented the boards. There is a story behind DC's romance titles, but I don't know the details. They are different than the rest of their books. I think DC published them for Arligh until the 60's when they became DC titles.
Like horror, DC romance is just more collectible than Marvel romance. The DC books can be very collectible just because of the covers.
Maybe I will scan a few of the 12 centers I have for the other thread.

I also posted a very obscure DC funny animal title in the atomic age thread in the GA forums. Don't let your precode covers go unnoticed...get over there and start posting

Last of my two 10 cent DC romance books. You know, scarcity in general and scarcity in grade are discussed around here all the time. Without demand, scarcity becoms somewhat irrelevant (if no one is looking, does it matter that few exist?). The DC romance books are a horrific challenge in any kind of nice shape which is why I bought these two. Plus I liked how DC set apart the "romance group" as being different from the rest of their titles. I Know there is a story behind DC publishing these titles for Arleigh (I think) I just don't know what that stoy is. They are very different from other DC comics. The inside front cover is a index to the stories inside, and the back covers remind me of Harvey comics they way the promote this months issues.

Just in case anyone thinks I only have Superman comics:
I love this back cover:
Check out the DC logo that usually says Superman in it.

haha, its like cottom candy superman!
Great books, I have to admit this thread has sent me chasing later books then I was. I am having fun with late 50's/ Early 60's. Too much good stuff I had let pass by before. I never paid much attention to the superman books before (Unless it was a crazy cover, or good colors or something like that), but I really like them all now! Waiting on my green lantern #2 to arrive...
Scanned this one for you. I really like the different colors used on this cover. Do you think Superman can stop in time?

and the last 10 center World's Finest

This book has proved too elusive for me to get in higher grades...
Notice the similiarity to the Adventure 276 I posted?
-
I really like the colors on this cover. One of the better covers for this period in World's Finest as so many have weird alien covers.
I don't care for the colors on that book. Get rid of it.
Ken
Okay, you want it?

Nothing like a good cat fight!

Posted this one once before, but moved it when I went to photobucket, so here is this beauty again. For those that like the bizarre nature of some of the DC covers....this blood transfusion should rank right up there.

All of these nice Superman related covers are starting to get to me. Beautiful books that I am having a hard time not adding to my ever growing want list.

Ahhh...it's working

I am a big time ERB fan. I own pedigree complete sets of DC's Tarzan, Korak, Tarzan Family and Weird Worlds.
I never bought the Dell stuff because I was "raised" on Kuberts stuff, but I do love those Dell covers
I saw the Central Valley Tarzan #1 (NN I think)
