although not really keys, i like those adams conans too. cheaper and not many issues but a nice long termer. basically if its neal adams and its the 1970s it seems a good bet. cant wait those copies of planet of vampires are going make me a fortune

when i read this i thought what can you buy for $1000 in the bronze age now a days. its getting to the point that $2000 wont buy any high grade keys. i only buy high grade so a vg copy of hulk #181 has no appeal to me. so if you dont mind, lets take a look at some of the 'lesser' comics we can buy. since were waiting for 5 years and assuming the comic market doesnt crash you can really have some fun speculating on some ignored books. you can purchase a good amount graded or you can buy a tonne of them raw for $1000. some of my purchases would be 1st issue special #8 warlord #1 conan #24 & #23 second conan neal adams issues firestorm #1 eman #1 chilling adventures in sorcery #1 all marvel .35¢ & .35¢ variants anything kirby amazing spider-man #135,136,161,162,176-180,194 gs spiderman #4 all high grade horror comics theres a lot more lesser books you could but high grade keys for $1000 in the bronze age is getting very rare.

canadian newsstand edition

i wasnt sure if it was a white logo or the pic just didnt capture the colour right. i just checked and all my copies of shroud of mystery and shadow play and they are yellow logos. actually every goldkey/whitman comic i own is a yellow logo. i know all copies were bought local except the sealed ones. i remember one of my dealers telling me that they bought a load of whitman pre-packs and opened them up cause thats the only way they could get them. i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure they were not sold outside the pre-packs. anyone else have any info?

There was someone last year looking for this book to complete their set, and they made it very clear how difficult it had been to track issues 3-4. i got real lucky on this one. i found it by accident in my collection. i wasnt going to keep it till i noticed what it was. maybe i might get it graded and sell it.

shadow play was only in whitman 2 packs with shroud of mystery. shadow play, i'd say is about 5x more 'scarce'. i have about 10 copies of shroud of mystery and 2-3 copies of shadow play. i'm thinking that shroud of mystery was produced before shadow play. the reason i say that is first the rarity of shadow play and that fact that shroud of mystery is available in 2 different 2 packs(scanned below), the last reason is the price of the 2 packs. the shroud of mystery/jungle twins 2 pack is $1.19 while the shroud of mystery/shadow play 2 pack is ¢.99. but what do i know. a related story to all of this is whitman created a second issue of, i think, shroud of mystery. it featured steve ditko art. the ditko cover was auctioned years ago at heritage. i cant find the scans and i dont know what it sold for.

vf's not a bad grade for me so it does have potential but i'd rather have the ¢.35 star wars #1 actually all the ¢.35 star wars and maybe the iron fist #14. have you started on the ¢.35 marvels yet? the modern comics reprints i've really grown to like over the years. i'm guessing that charlton also produced them for modern because no other printing company in the world has production values that low. it seems like more people are into these comics as i've seen price increase on them, for high grade atlest. wonder how well they sold? i'm guessing not well since they were dumped at discount outlets unbagged. as for the guide unless it's gold or silver they dont care. the one thing that really bugs me is they post a price list for blb(big little books) books, which i'd say about 95% of collectors dont collect but theres no price for canadian comics or canadian variants of u.s comics. the market for the canadian books are a lot bigger than blb books. they need some new blood running the annual

heres the last overlooked by everyone. check out the list of artist for these comics never gets the respect it deserves

variants, double covers, errors issues love/need them all. it would be amazing to have a complete set of the marvel ¢.30 variants or ¢.35. i know i could never do it cause i'm also a grade freak and those variants are so tough to find and not just in high grade. i'm amazed at how low there listed in the guide. i know its a good thing for collectors but its always nice to get some respect from the guide. it seems more and more the guides really becoming irrelevant.

thanks for the post. i'll have to start buying some more of these. most people assume when they see a price variant that its for the canadian market. but i'm convinced these are just price increase issues and not test variants or canadian price variants. i could be totally wrong. but its still a variant and i have to have it

its not the best inked kirby job. it's weird cause buckler has been accused of being a kirby rip off and it didnt really work to well. i'm not sure why he didnt use michael thibodeaux which was his inker at the time. i would have loved it if mike royer had inked it. to me he was kirby's best inker. the more i look at the cover it looks like the shield has been drawn by someone else. anyone else notice that or am i seeing things.

how complete for the marvel & dc? does it include all the CANADIAN PRICE VARIANTS?? there are a few dc variants that are not known to most people even the variant collectors. i'll share those later. good luck on the archies and charltons. i might be able to help you with a few charltons and some of the superhero archies but other than that the best guy for that kind of stuff is doug at comic world. i wouldnt want to try to complete those companies, i dont plan on living that long.

thank you for the welcome and let me say big fan of your posts. thats the charm of charlton. they didnt care what was going on in the industry. while marvel was working with baxter paper, mini series, graphic novels anything to find the next big thing. what was charlton doing? reprints and war/western and funny animal books on the worst paper being printed on presses from the middle ages. i'm pretty sure the early to mid 1980s comics were printed on the original gutenberg printing press. they just didnt care and thats why i love the company. plus the war/western books had some good art and not just for charlton. i really wish they could have hung around, especially when i see that junk from the 1990s. it had no sole, pure corporate greed with some less than talented artist making waaaaay to much money. if only sanho kim could has stayed around long enough to join image, he would have fit right in.

this book was right at the price change from ¢.15 to ¢.20. it's not a canadian variant. the canadian dollar didnt really suck will the late 70s. i'm always looking for them but they are very tough to find. most people dont know they exist, me included till a few years ago. doug from comic world talks about it in the 36th edition of the overstreet annual on page 113, i think. when it comes to variants and anything comics from the last 40+ years he's they guy who knows. its too bad he doesnt get the credit he deserves. he almost single handedly created the canadian comic market.

the star line seems to be getting some much needed attention by collectors as of late. lots of good art and potential lawsuit of stolen characters, royal roy, some bad stuff but that was the 80s. i wonder how things would have went if marvel did buy harvey comics at the time. i think it was a stupid move that they didnt. just to have the harvey characters for licensing alone would have made it a win for them. it amazes me how marvel created 2 new comics lines at the same time and how great they did with one line and how bad, cant think of a word that really describes new universe, they did with the other. one of shooters rare misses. hey that kinda plays of each other, shooter, misses. wow i'm goin love this forum.
