I'd be interested to hear from others but #9 has always seemed a lot scarcer than #8 and #10. I guess there's no way of knowing if print runs differed with each issue.

If you go by our "club census" #6 is the scarcest title so far. It's still pretty early for 2-10 postings though.

BTW I posted the Club Census on the 1st page under my 1st posting. i thought it would be an easy place to go back to if anyone wants to look at census results.

This is a SWEET #5. Looks fairly high grade. You thinking of slabbing it?

The census shows a 7.0 & an 8.5 as the two highest they've graded, so your's is in rarified air.

Lotemo, those are all OUTSTANDING copies! I'm so jealous. So what's the story on your Archie collection? You said on page 1 of the thread that you got your Archie 1 10 years ago. Did you pick all of these up a long time ago too?

Seeing as how the Archie 1 club has so few members I think it would be fairly easy to open it up to the Archie 2-10 owners. I love seeing these covers and have a fascination with the census numbers on all these early issues.

Is this resto? I don't think it is.

No, the few comics I've taken the spine roll out of and submitted have all come back with Blue labels.

Spine rolls bother me and my OCDs won't let me leave them alone. It's like dog eared pages or any other folds. I undo all of them.

I suppose there are some purists out there who consider this resto, but I don't, and CGC doesn't.

I was able to take the spine roll out of the comic and straightened some folded over pieces. It presents much nicer now. Notice where the staple pulled thru the cover I found a small flap of veronica's word bubble that I was able to fold back out.

Makes me wonder about a total copies estimate. Anybody know the Gerber rating on Archie #1?

I forget what a Gerber 7 means. Is that 100-200 estimated copies? or even less?

 

There are 43 listed on the census and there are 4 raw issues listed in this forum so we know of 47 copies right now.

Isn't Action comics 1 a Gerber 7 also. 60 of those on the census

 

Aren't GPA census numbers "contaminated" and unreliable due to duplication ?

ie. if a cgc.4.5 gets pressed and submitted to become cgc 5.5, don't both the 4.5 and 5.5 stay on the census (unless the label is submitted also to get the original 4.5 dropped) ?

 

Therefore, if this is the case it looks like two books are out there but in reality it's only one ? That means the "43" listed on the census can be less - and much less if there's been lots of resubmissions.... just a thought.

Yes, that's a great point. I'm sure it's true of all Key comics. I going to guess that the census numbers on any key comic are probably at least 10%-15% less than what the actual census shows.
