  1. For those of you still searching for a decent copy of SC#4, here's a recent entry into the market (Be fore-warned though, the asking price may be to some) ...... SHOWCASE #4
  2. Thanks for the compliments guys. I also made sure to check the latest CGC census beforehand. My 4.5 copy is the 4th highest graded after one copy each in 7.0, 6.0, and 5.0 under the Universal blue label column. A total of only nine copies have been graded as Universal unrestored! BTW, the only other 4.5 graded copy is currently listed in C-Link, but it has Lt Tan to OW pages and the photo image provided is very blurry. that little tear saved you a boatload of cash. what a wonderful looking 4.5, and with killer pages. congrats, sir.
  3. Behold, my latest acquisition... MAJOR KEY: 1st appearance of the GA Atom; 4th overall appearance of GA Green Lantern !!! As you may have noticed on the back cover, the piece torn off the upper-left hand corner obviously brought the grade down from what would have easily been in the mid-grade plus range. Oh well, I still couldn't pass this up given that I got a pretty decent deal for it on eBay.
  4. Ya, I can't see why there is even a discussion. If there is no kryptonite then Superman is completely indestructable. Plus Superman is MUCH smarter and FASTER (think Flash) and can avoid any I blow the Hulk might try to lay on him. What if he just carries him into space? Doesn't Hulk need air? Hulk can hold his breath for a long time but not indefinitely. This is just a discussion on strength though. Hulk is human. Supes isn't. It's really that simple. Thor is a God. End of discussion. Roy, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say "YES"! If we're talking 1964, Thor has had trouble taking down the Hulk. If we're talking today, well, continuity and powers have changed so many times, I don't even know anymore. It all comes down to who's writing the characters/books. Each of these three were strengthened and weakened throughout the decades. I like to remember Thor as he was written by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas before he got weakened by other writers (with a few exceptions) either within his own series or in crossovers. As for those DC/Marvel crossovers, I don't put any stock in them because DC would never agree to them if it meant having their trademark character (Supes) defeated. So they're pointless IMO. Neither Thor nor Hulk, however, are Marvel's trademark character (it's Spidey), so that makes them expendible, especially Thor since he's much less known to the general public than Supes or Hulk. I know we're talking about raw strength only on this thread, not total power, but I still stand by the God of Thunder, plus considering the "Warrior's Madness" factor I mentioned earlier on.
  5. +1 +2 The madder Hulk gets, the stronger he becomes. I'm gonna have to differ with the herd here. Let's remember that Thor too is capable of going into a berserker/rage state as well called "Warrior's Madness" that many seem to forget. In this condition, his strength is increased ten times. Note that Thor very rarely goes into a WM state as he's aware that he would become a danger to both friend and foe alike. Given that Thor's normal strength level (as well as some other of Marvel's heavy-weights) is already greater that the Hulk's starting strength level, it's going to take quite a loooong time for the Hulk to get mad enough to reach Thor's WM level, assuming that the fight even lasts long enough. Ditto with regards to Superman as well.
  6. This must be a new or recent entry to the CGC census because only a few months ago, I owned the only CGC-Universal 7.5 of this book, but with OW-White pages (posted in the Detective Comics thread). Now... perfect White pages? Very nice indeed! It presents very well for its assigned grade.
  7. VERY nice pick ups... wow! +1 I always wanted to pick up some (CGC-slabbed, mid to high grade) Schomburg airbrush books myself (especially Startling #49) but they always seem to sell way above guide, even multiples. Shouldn't be surprised though.
  8. Got this baby delivered to me earlier this month. MAJOR KEY: 1st appearance & origin Wonder Woman !!! This is the first and only time that I've ever bought a PLOD since I'm usually apprehensive about such things. However, with the limited budget I had at the time, I figured it was either going to be a restored high grade or an unrestored low grade. Considering that I plan on keeping it for the long haul, I'm quite happy with it. Furthermore, according to the latest CGC census, the highest graded is 9.0, followed by 8.5 for BOTH Universal and Restored labels!
  9. I just acquired this one a few hours ago. Der Fuhrer, as depicted by Simon & Kirby: Just curious. What grade does this raw look to you? Opinions?
  10. I just bought this one a few hours ago on eBay. I simply couldn't resist. Not as big a key as my other three, but still one special issue. This came from an original owner collection. Thanks Adam. Here's more of the eBay description: "This comic is part of a small but still very cool original owner collection. These books were purchased for the original owner by his parents while he was away fighting in WWII. He never got much into comics so when he returned home, these books were put away in the closet (many of them never read) where they sat untouched for almost 70 years until just last week! "
  11. Thanks for the compliment. I figured now is a good time as any to buy a decent blue-labelled copy of SC#4. In recent years, it hasn't been going up in price in the OSPG anywhere nearly as great as most of the major SA Marvel keys in OS' top 20 list. I've made sure that I acquired all the Marvels first. The only other major SA DC keys I have so far are raw mid-grade copies of B&B#28 (as well as 29 & 30) and JLA#1 which I bought back in the late 1990's at conventions.
  12. That'd make the difference. ...And that sure makes me feel a lot better paying $3K for that 3.5 Otherwise, I would have at least hoped that the 4.5 was purchased back in Sept. 2010 because I bought mine in mid-Feb. 2011. Would five months have made a difference?
  13. Three important - and very nice books - congrat's. Thanks. The last time I checked the CGC census, each of them were the only single ones in their respective grades under the Universal column ! How about that?
  14. Here's one of my pre-hero TOS, featuring ZARKORR (the Watcher's long-lost twin! ) 'nuff said:
  15. Here's a few key Tec's of mine.... I figured that I better get at least these ones while I still can because all those pre-Robin Tec's in any decent blue-label grades are now out of my price range.
  16. Recent Sales since Sept 2010 8.0 ep 2350.00 4.5 blue 2978.00 3.5 blue 3000.00 3.0 blue 2600.00 2.5 blue 2010.00 1.8 blue 2629.00 I believe mine's on your list. Anyway, here's my ticket to this club ... SA-wise, I'm mainly a Marvelite. I figured, however, that I should pick up some of the major DC SA keys.
  17. The final gavel price for that one was....... $82,800 !!! C-Link had another CGC 9.2, with a much better centered cover but with OW-W pages, that sold for $75,000 around the same time. Beauty eh? Ohhhh how I just hate having to be on the outside looking in. For now, I'll have to be satisfied with my raw VG+ copy I bought back in 1998, not long before I took a decade-long break from comic collecting. I guess that puts me in this Club, but I haven't got around to getting a scan for it yet. I'm still hoping to be able to buy a slabbed, mid-grade copy though.
  18. OMG!!! It puts my own (mostly low to mid-grade) JIM with Thor collection to shame. This was due to having bought most of those issues way back when I was just a kid/teenager during the early-mid 1980's when I had very limited funds and alI I cared about back then was just completing that run. Just so long as the books were complete and in collectible shape (definitely not poor or fair). I was so happy once I had that accomplished, that thereafter, I did not think about or bother to do any upgrading at all. If only I'd been alot more picky about the grades back then when the price spreads between low-, mid- and high-grades weren't that great. Although this would only have meant a difference of a few dollars, as a kid, I was watching every single dollar (even quarter), since I was focusing more on quantity rather than quality. I did manage to acquire the bigger fish (ie. JIM#'s 83 to 90) during the 1990's, though none of them in high grade. Now when I look at today's going prices for all those books in high grade, epecially CGC-slabbed, I still can't be bothered to upgrade as there's always some other (key) book that I don't have that I want to buy. Oh well...
  19. Go with the All Star #8. First appearance. 'Nuff said. I recently bought a copy myself, though it's a CGC PLOD VF+ 8.5 Mod-P Cr-OW. BTW, this is the first and only time that I've ever bought a PLOD since I'm usually apprehensive about it. However, with the limited budget I had at the time, I figured it was either going to be a restored high grade or an unrestored low grade. Considering that I plan on keeping it for the long haul, that I paid just over $3,800 for it, that it's an early GA major key, and that it looks beautiful, I'm quite happy with it. Furthermore, according to the latest CGC census, the highest graded is 9.0, followed by 8.5 - for BOTH Universal and Restored labels! Judging by your budget, it seems you can afford an unrestored 4.0 to 5.5 range. FYI, a CGC Univ 6.0 copy sold just last night on eBay for roughly $8,700+ , less than guide (ie. $10,500) although CGC noted a very slight color-touch to still give it a blue label. I think it was one of Adam's.
  20. I've noticed that eBay seller, "silvercomics", has a habit of listing the exact same book twice at the same time: once in "Auction" format and a separate one in "BIN" format which can cause lots of confusion for prospective buyers. Many eBay sellers tend to (and should) list an item once under a "BIN or Best Offer" format.
