On sat July 22 at 8pm will be one the greatest EC comic book panels ever assembled at the SDCC..it is entitled "EC Fan Addict Club 10th anniversary"... it is worth the price of admission.....The current generation of great authors and publishers keeping the flame alive...do not miss this. If someone can cut and paste the guest list...I know there will be some super surprises!!!!!

as a early attendee, it has NOT...but it is different. This year less studios due to the writer's strike and should be more comic con.....there is always good material at SDCC....some do not want to incur the expense, I can understand that...it still is the best comic book con panel wise bar none. For example the outstanding "EC fan addict club 10 anniversary". on July 22 at 8 PM...look at that line up....a who's who of EC publishers etc....worth the price of admission alone....

interesting comment on quests....once you get there and you are looking out on top of the mountain...its a very different view. First having 2K of comics vs say 40K is a lot harder to hang on too. The facts speak in the favor of Mr Levine...as when he sold them, he gave a condition which I believe is unique in any type of comic book sale that I have ever heard of. He sold the collection as a discount as long as he could keep them for life. At the time going with good faith and belief , this would be a true comic book collectors dream..after he passes why not give it to another collector who would keep it as a collection, rather than breaking it up into little pieces for maximum profit. I would say this is the ultimate act of a true comic book collector and of course never been duplicated since. Mr Levine in my opinion is one the greatest comic book collectors I have known about, along with Russ Cochran (art), Bruce Hamilton, etc. This supreme act on this one of a kind collection needs acknowedgement and support from out of our collectors community. When it came time sell, he did not do what 99.9% of the collectors on this board would do. Nuff said. Of course nobody knows the future, and plans while perfect have to change as conditions and life throws us into situations when never contemplated. So in the end, here we are, with an lower rung auction house spreading them out, selling the impossible when that first book gets sold, graded, piled up and sold to the highest bidder, never to be duplicated again. But nothing lasts forever, and for those moments when he was on top of the mountain and his decades look quest...those will not be forgotten. Finally, his stopping in 2015...well how many collectors on these boards "read" and I mean really read that 2015 DC everything stuff. We cherry pick. Rather than doing that he chose to draw a line in sand and say I will not be exploited as true comic book collector on this rebranding to sell more #1 issues...I say to Mr. Levine you got at the right time and place with the benefit of hindsight. Finally Bronty, you comment " it was mostly one direction" and I respond in this way....when you are focused, relentless and purposeful in achieving what has never been done before, inch by inch, book by book...you have to be in order to accomplish the impossible. -

Let me add your collection is and still is the Top DC collection in the world, book by book or inch by inch you are a true original comic book collector for life. I was wondering you opinion on the DC omnibus editions and how they have restored the issues to an amazing state. There is for example a upcoming omnibus edition of the silver age Superman coming in December called "superman the silver age omnibus Action 241-265 and superman 122-137 on Amazon for only $90. It gives Silver age collectors a chance to catch up on these lost classics. Do you ever buy the JLA Omnibus 1/2? Your thoughts on them if you did. Thank you for reappearing on these boards, you experience and comments are historically significant to life long collectors like myself. -
I just wish I was a fly on the wall.......Your thread here really issue by issue gives us look of the marvel reality...it is paying attention to detail that derails Stan and his co-credit /creator status. I will give Stan the editor of the year award, even the best promo master of all time when it comes to comic book marketing but keep going forward issue by issue.....the evidence is does not hype or lie...thanks for this thread and every opinion we get including the above video adds to the treasure trove of finding out the truth. I learn something from everything.

Jack Kirby's Son Comments On New Stan Lee Documentary
Mmehdy replied to Cat's topic in Comics General
Stan was a editor who took the writers fee with a one line lets do Doc Ock....Kirby the creative force, Stan was the promo! -

Not for original art -
I think the actual truth will never be known and I believe that everyone is right and wrong in their own viewpoints similarly to 5 witnesses seeing the same event and each testimony differs. One critical fact which works both for and against Kirby’s claim… the fact Ditko did the original cover of AF 15 which Stan as editor shows that Steve was in control of this from day one timewise Kirby comes in and redoes AF 15 cover… and creates a superior image which in my opinion created the definitive Spider-Man look which was historic. so it’s the chicken and egg issue.. I can understand Kirby taking some credit creating the the AF 15 classic defining cover….I can understand Ditko claiming the majority of the credit with is his issue by issue analysis. but SFDUCK….,one major point you seem to have forgotten…., Stan the Man is nowhere to be found in this equation…. Just Stan the editor.. two creative geniuses crossing paths with Stan sitting on the sidelines!!!!!!!!!!! .

The flaw in your comparison is this...Stan Lee is no Joe Simon...not even close. But lets give Cap#1 credit...it was a game changer in 1941 and the run of 1-10 holds up today in 2023. That is why Taschen's next marvel comics library is Cap 1-10 That was a legit joint effort, but Joe Simon did not take credit for every -script written on 5/8 different titles per month...Stan did not do it all, and his writing credit is worthless...however, I would agree a great editior. One book I would recommend you purchase The Golden age of Simon and Kirby hardcover...it is simply fantastic and I have read it 3 times...Besides the Vision which appeared in MM, a number of new characters and believe me, they have some solo Joe Simon covers which are great. A fantastic body of work...quality over more material....

I got to disagree with you, given the format limitations the books can rise much higher that soap opera....FF48, 49 and 51 come to mind, as well as FF5, Ann#1( possibly the best here),etc and that is just Kirby...let along Ditko...do not get me wrong, Stan did his job and did it well...promotional stick at its best, but that only goes so far....it was the great material created both artwork and story which kept you there, Stan opened the door- Sfcityduck...but that was about it....

The savy art buyer has a back stop...it is called charitable deduction..and with a one of a kind art...who sets real value...obviously the price paid is the floor, the museum wants it for free... the sky is the limit on value..again the FF for 6M buyer has a way out as it is one of a kind....not the promise collection however...with GPA and auctions results...true current market value can easily be obtained...big difference here in flexibility due to it being one of kind. -

Anyone can play either side of the fence...our Pedigree GA comic book history has shown, when we paid 3x guide plus for the SF collection or MH...over time it reaped great rewards. So history was on my side at the time of the initial sale....lets let it play out...who knows....but for now....it looking pretty bad,,,for the present they are 100% right....but we know over time how things somehow change.....If you plan on being a collector for the next 7-10 years...Promise "fire sale" books are a no brainer if you can hold, and hold and not sell them but I will admit...we are certainly not at the bottom if we hit a serious economic recession 4thQ this year
