  1. Starslayer #4 has a back cover ad for Groo, but there is no Groo story inside.
  2. You would think if this was somewhat a common occurence, that there would be more examples of this occuring in comics. Even double covers happens/happened every once in awhile. By the way, do double covers on comics even happen anymore? Are there examples of double covers on comics from let's say the past 5 years?
  3. It doesn't feel any different from the rest of the page. It appears the small pieces of paper had some glue/gum on one side. Similiar to a post it note, which is what left the stain on the other side of the page and made it so you could see the artwork from the other page. I guess the glue deteriorated over time, which is why the pieces came off.
  4. I was going through some comics I was getting ready to list on ebay. I had 4 copies of Hulk Annual 18 I was going to put up as a lot. I was going through the comic to see who drew the various stories and such when I noticed a page that had what looked like a stain on it. It was square and didn't see anything that would have caused the stain. These comics were unread. Anyway I decided to check the other copies to see if they had the same stain. I tried to leave the 1st copy open so I could see what page I was looking for, but it ended up closing. This time I searched the comic from the back to front to find the page when a small piece of paper fell out. The paper had the art/story printed on it and the area that the piece was covering was blank except you could see the art from the other side of the page. I've been buying/collecting comics for 50 years and I've never come across this type of printing error. As I was checking out the comic further another piece of paper from another page fell out. Same size as the first and if you notice, both pieces of paper have numbers going across the bottom. So first question is, have any of you ever seen anything like this? Any idea what may have caused this to happen? What were those pieces of paper with the numbers on them for?
  5. That's a reason i can't understand why some dealers on eBay will sell certain books that may go for $100-$200 individually, in lots of 10-20 copies. I can understand wanting to get some money now, but they are doing themselves a disservice as well as others trying to sell that comic, by driving down the value of the book. It reminds me of a situation I had to deal with several years ago. My girlfriend and I used to order Snoopy/Peanuts figural items directly from a company to sell on eBay. This was before ebay had the Buy It Now option, so everything was an auction. We would buy some items for let's say $10 wholesale and put them on eBay for $19.99 starting bid. That way if it only sold for $19.99 we would at least double our money. If it went higher, all the better. Unfortunately there were several, too many, other sellers who would sell the same items I was selling, but start the bidding at $10, which is cost, or even less than cost. Inevitably they would end up going for only $10-$15, which would make it difficult for me to even get a single bid on the items I was selling. Why would someone buy something for $20 (the suggested retail price) when they coiud get it for $15 or less?
  6. I was reading up on the history of Heroes Inc. Presents Cannon #1 by Wally Wood wanting to know exactly why the comic was still inexpensive to buy. I had heard that a large number of copies were found in a warehouse. I guess this is correct as apparently 70,000 copies were auctioned off by Heritage in 2005. So that got me to thinking what would happen to the prices of a key comic book if let's say 10000 or more high grade copies were found in a warehouse or some other location? For example how far do you think the price of Hulk 181 or Spider-man 129 or even Iron Man 1 would drop if 10,000+ copies were discovered? Do you think they would still go for over $1000 in high grade or do you think they would plummit to under $100? There would obviously still be a large demand for these comics, but how far would the price have to drop before all copies would be absorbed into collections?
  7. The only double cover I have is a JLA 110. It's one of those 100 pagers and the outer cover is not attached since it's squarebound. I wasn't sure if this was usual for the outer covers of squarebound books with double covers to be unattached. But then I saw the CGC graded Detective with the note 1st cover never glued on. I estimate the 1st cover to be in the 6.0-6.5 range and the inner cover around a 9.2.
  8. It's sales like this and the CGC 9.6 Amazing Fantasy 15 that makes me wonder why the CGC 9.0 Action #1 didn't sell for higher than it did. I realize it was 8 years ago and it was a record price at the time, but that sale should have blown all previous records out of the water by a higher margin.
  9. What gets me annoyed as a seller is the opposite end of the spectrum. It's the dealers that list a book as a VG and when I look at the picture i can't see any noticeable defects that would knock the book down that far. I realize there can be some hidden defects, but if a books like a vf/nm book and it's graded a very good, i think it would be important to note in the description why this book is graded this way. As a seller it makes it harder to sell a book that's a fine/very fine for a decent price when several other books look better but are graded lower. When I grade a book I try to be as realistic as i can and not let wishful thinking affect the grade I give. It seems a lot of these big dealers are leaving some money on the table. I understand being conservative, but there is a difference between grading a F/VF book as a VG/F or even a fine and grading a VF+ or better as a VG/F or less.
  10. Can't find a particuliar comic? How about can't find an entire run. At one time I had the complete run of Defenders. I have no recallection of selling them all. I know I sold a few like #1, #10 and a few other early issues, but when issue #28 started climbing, I went looking for it. Couldn't find any issues and didn't see any large gaps in my boxes. very frustrating.
  11. I recently acquired the leftover store stock from a comic book store that closed about 10 years ago and amongst the inventory were some early to mid 1980s Comics Journal magazines. I was looking on eBay to see how much they were going for when I noticed a copy of issue 89 had sold for $150. It had a small preview/notice of the upcoming series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 with an image of Leonardo. So I went through the box of Comics Journals and low and behold there were 3 copies. I put one up that was near mint for $150 and it sold within a couple days. The other 2 were near mint minus, so put them up for $135 each and they both sold in less than 1 day.
  12. How do you all feel in regards to slight color touch on comic books? Do you avoid them like the plague? Do you accept them as long as the book is priced accordingly? How much of a percentage should a book with slight color touch be marked down? Let's say you have a Silver Age DC super hero comic graded CGC 9.4 that would possibly sell for around $300 if it was Universal, but it received the Purple Label of Death. The only restoration is slight color touch. Let's assume the book would have graded maybe 9.0 without the color touch. If you are selling, do you price the book as if it were graded a 9.0 or maybe less if you feel the book would have graded lower without the CT? Or do you price it around a VG price? If you are buying, what percentage of the 9.4 price would you be willing to pay assuming you want the book for your collection. Are you willing to pay a higher percentage for a book with CT if it's raw but noted that the book has CT? Curious minds would like to know.
  13. This thread has a lot of interesting finds. Unfortunately this is a story of one that got away or missed it by ..that..much. I noticed a listing in Facebook Marketplace a couple days ago offering 5 short boxes of comics for $50. I checked it out and of course it was actually $30-$50 each for the comics. He had 5 pictures of the boxes but this is was he showed all 5 pictures looked like this. But he at least gave a list of which books were in each box. This is what he wrote. Looking to get rid of some comics and trade paperbacks. I've collected and inventoried 5 boxes total and this post contains the contents of all 5. Each box will be getting it's own, separate post. Now, here's the deal: The lists of contents are pretty accurate, but I am human. It's possible that I missed or misnumbered something in the box. I'd guess that if I missed anything, it will be that there is an extra comic or two as opposed to something missing. No returns if I made a mistake. If you have a specific question about a box or even single comic, message me, but if someone makes an offer to buy the box before I can get back to you or before you decide, they get it. First offer, first served. A vast majority of the comics are in excellent shape. Some of the older ones can show significant wear but, for the most part, they're in great shape for their age. A high majority of the comics are bagged and boarded but there are some that aren't at all. No, I'm not selling single issues or just a few from a box. I'm not moving contents around. It's the whole box or nothing. Key here is that the boxes are sold as-is. ****Conan, Captain America, and trade paperbacks**** $30 Conan the King #25-35 Conan the Barbarian #71-72, 87, 158, 163-185, 206, Annuals 9 and 10 Captain America 43 Books from the 1960s - 1980s Wizard magazine 1992 San Diego Comic Con exclusive The Mighty: Thor Resurrection Trade Paperback Fantastic Four: Nobody Gets out Alive Trade Paperback New X-Men: E is for Extinction Trade Paperback Punisher Batman: Deadly Knights Trade Paperback Sin City: The Big Fat Kill Trade Paperback Astro City: Life in the Big City Trade Paperback The Metabarons: Path of the Warrior Trade Paperback --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ****Image and Wildstorm Books**** $30 Invincible #48-69, 72-73 Invincible Returns #1 The Walking Dead #55-65, 66-68, 70, 73-75, 100 (One plus a variant cover) WildC.A.T.s Covert Action Teams #1-12, 14, Special #1 Youngblood #0-3, 7, 12, #2 by Awesome Comics Crimson #2-7, 11 Choker #1-3 The Light #1-4 Nowhere Man #1, 2, 4 Turf #1-2 Inferno Hellbound #1-2 Stone the Awakening #1-2 Skull Kickers #1-4 The Activity #6-7 Chew 7 books Witchblade #3-5 Saga #2, 4, 5, 8, 10 The Astounding Wolf-Man #13-15, 17-20 The Manhattan Projects #8-10 Haunt #1, 2, 4, Preview Wetworks 3 books Savage Dragon #12-13 Deathblow #1-2 Pitt #1-2 Dynamo 5 #1 ****Single books**** Super Dinosaur Stormwatch New Men Cyberforce Origins Stryker Groo Union Mister Universe Non Player Officer Downe Shadow Hawk II Fatale Deathmate Badrock and Company Homage Studios Swimsuit Special Inside Image Butcher Knight Soul Saga Dark Realm Vagabond Sweets Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark Revival Planetoid Medieval Spawn and Witchblade Image Plus East of West The Infinite --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ****Marvel books**** $50 G.I. I saw the 94 and thought "naw, he must have meant to write 93 or something", then I saw all the other issue numbers he listed and thought "are these the Byrne issues or are they the modern issues". So I messaged him to see if they were still available (the listing showed it had been up for 3 hours, so I wasn't holding out too much hope) to see if these were from the 1970s-1980s or not. He sent back a picture and this was what he showed. Unfortunately he mentioned there was one person ahead of me who was interested, but if he didn't take the X-men box(fat chance) I could get it. After a couple hours he messaged back to say the other guy bought all 5 boxes. If I'd only come across the listing sooner, bummer. It wouldn't be such a big deal except I don't get very many opportunities to pick up something like this for this price (we're talking Byrne X-men books, not to mention issue 266 and some others for roughly 3 comics for a dollar). The collection he had was strange as it ran the gamut from 1970s up to 1990s and maybe a few from the 2000s, but the titles were all over the place and there weren't long runs of many titles.
  14. Here are pics of the 2 signature sheets I mentioned earlier in this thread.
  15. I unfortunately don't have his signature on a comic, but I have a Wally Wood signature. In my early years of attending comic-cons I would take a sheet of sketch paper and have several artists and writers sign it. On one sheet I have the following signatures. Jack Kirby, Wally Wood, Jim Steranko, Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Terry Austin, Bill Sienkiewicz, George Perez, Howard Chaykin, Mike Grell, Brent Anderson and Alan Weiss. On another sheet I have John Romita, Marshall Rogers, Roy Thomas, Jim Shooter, Marv Wolfman, Len Wein, Nestor Redondo, Ernie Chan, Mike Kaluta, Don Glut, Marty Pasko and Peter Ledger.
