  1. Haven’t had much luck on craigslist in many moons. Usually all I see is over priced 90s books or people wanting to buy collections. So I was surprised last week to see a large quantity of comics for a reasonable price. I inquired about the books and set up a meeting for the next day. A 45 minute drive later and an exchange of comic books for cash and I was headed home very happy. Here are the highlights. The marvel tales with the McFarlane covers are probably not a highlight for everyone, but I like the idea of putting a fresh coat of paint on an old story.
  2. Took some time off from chasing the Walmart three packs to visit the local antique mall. Picked up the Charltons because I remember getting the Modern reprints of E-man as a kid at Woolworths and not realizing at the time that they were reprints. Superman family was another guilty pleasure from childhood since it had a lot of stories for the money. Don’t usually collect a specific horror title, although I like the genre. This cover spoke to me, even though it cost a little more than I usually spend on this type of comic.
  3. Stopped at a garage sale this morning on the way to work because their Facebook ad mentioned Ps3 games. They were all gone when I got there, but I left with this consolation prize.
  4. Went to the thrift store yesterday that was suggested by 1Cool (sounds better than saying I visited his honey hole!). Not much left that was flippable, but I managed to snag some books that were on my lists (Justice League, DC Comics Presents, Fury of Firestorm) as well as a few upgrade copies of books. The digest was my favorite find, since I needed it to complete my DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest run. Also found a few books that are currently or recently hot, although things change so quickly it’s hard to be sure. The avengers 186 was probably my most flippable find. The last picture is from a local game exchange store that also had comics. Again, hard to be sure if they are still hot, but the price was right. All in all a good day trip. Thanks again to 1Cool.
  5. Re-bagging and boarding some comics tonight and came across this one. The second cover is stapled in the middle like a centerfold instead of being directly after the outer cover. Looking through this thread, it seems unusual for a double cover to be this way. Anyone else have this type of double cover?
  6. IMG_0677[1] by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr IMG_0678[1] by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Picked these up at a garage sale over the 4th of July weekend. For me, it's the nostalgia factor of Charleton, plus I love the older horror stories!
  7. Went to an estate sale yesterday advertised on craigslist where the comics were advertised as $2 each, but the owner was willing to make a deal on larger purchases. Found these along with a fairly large stack and negotiated down to a little over a dollar a book.
  8. Here's mine! Got it at a little second hand book store. The owner had this one and two 5-sided spinner racks. When I asked him if he would be interested in selling one of them, he thought about it for a bit and said he would. When I asked how much, he said $20. Needless to say, I couldn't get my hand to my wallet fast enough!
  9. Went to an estate sale that I saw in a CL ad advertising comics, but was dissapointed by the small quantity and poor selection that I saw when I got there. Figured that they were probably picked over, since sale had started on Friday and I was there on Saturday. Decided to check out the rest of the sale since I was already there. Came across these in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Estate sale books by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Also found these VHS tapes on another table downstairs with other videos, DVD's and CD's. Estate sale videos by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Turned out everything was half price, since it was the last day of the sale, so I ended up getting everything for a grand total of $7.50. Not sure if there is anything worth anything in here, but I was thrilled at the amount of reading and viewing material for the price, especially after my initial dissapointment with the comics!
  10. The current TaTs for regular moderns are 59 business days - which is clearly spelled out on CGC's site. If you want them faster, pay for fast-track - nobody's forcing you to submit your books in the slower tier  Agreed! Modern Non Fast Track does state 60 business days. Just wish they would update turnaround times to reflect the current status of Modern Fast Track submissions. Case in point: My Modern FT submission received by CGC on 08/15/13 Shipped out by CGC on 09/12/13 19 Business days. Almost double the projected 10. I understand the glut of submissions at conventions, but it would be nice if CGC gave a more realistic estimation of turnaround times so an informed decision could be made about spending the extra $10/book.
  11. Went to a garage sale this morning I found on CL advertising Batman comics at 50 cents each or 5 for $2. Needless to say, I couldn't add this one to my pile fast enough! BA12 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr
  12. Bane by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Elektra by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Got these at a garage sale in Trenton, MI a couple of weeks ago. DC Comics were $1 each and Marvels were $2 each. Also picked up about 40 DC Digests for $1 each. Completed my Adventure Comics digest run and only need 8 more to complete my Best of DC Digest run.
  13. Star Wars 107 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Not really a garage sale, but a local store in the mall has recently added to their product line of local sports memorabilia (Browns, Buckeyes) to include comic books. Talked to owner, who said that he really hasn't advertised them and was still in the process of inventory, but that I was welcome to look around. Mostly modern stuff, but I did snag this one for $2.
  14. DCP3 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Found this one at a garage sale last week! Found a ton of DC Whitmans from my childhood while going through my collection to get ready for Mid-Ohio con. Most in "well loved" condition. Great memories of picking these up in 3 packs at Zayre's (kind of like a Kmart).
  15. Library Sale by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Got these at the local library during their semi-annual book sale! Filled a small paper grocery bag for $5. Hours of reading fun!
  16. Found this at a local garage sale today for $1. I know from these boards that it can be hard to come by. GIJoe155 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Also found this one at the same garage sale, also for $1. Noticed when I got it home that it was the newstand edition. Not sure of the rarity of this one. Maybe someone here can advise. Thanks! ASM36 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr

  18. star trek by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Got these at a garage sale yesterday. $1 each or 6 for $5. Didn't realize I had issue #1 until I got home. Love those photo covers!
  19. Untitled by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Bought these yesterday at a garage sale. Untitled by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Bought these for 25 cents each at the same sale. Nothing extremely high value, but they caught my eye and I usually don't see them around here that often.
  20. Black Lightning by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Picked these up this past Sunday at a small show in Livonia, MI to complete my Black Lightning run!
  21. Went to an estate sale in Trenton, MI on Friday that I saw on estatesales.net because they advertised comic books as part of the sale. No major WOW factor, but I thought I would post a few of the comics that I bought. Dective 350 by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr Love that Joe Kubert cover! Deathlok by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr First Deathlok! Wish the condition was better! Groo by Willie Lumpkin, on Flickr The only anxious moment came when I was going through a nearly complete run of New Mutants! Unhappily, there was no #98 (First Deadpool). Someone must have gotten to it before I got there.
