  1. WB should just trash the other loser films & focus on the Batman. Who cares about GL, Aquaman & the Flash.
  2. Even being Avengers 2.5, it still failed to exceed previous Marvel big team releases, along with Iron Man 3. And this had all of the big heavy-hitters available at the time. Justice League will be telling, as that is the actual team movie versus Batman v Superman, which had three of the characters. If anything, those three are what drove the movie to exceed $800MM, even though the critics and partial movie-goer responses. Huh? The movie title is Captain America: Civil War....C-A-P-T-A-I-N--A-M-E-R-I-C-A! Where can I find this so-called Avengers 2.5...(Netflix, HBO, CraveTV)? Even WB avoided the same release date! And GotG2 will be better than JL (IMHO)
  3. Agree to a certain extent. If Wonder Woman is a hit that will help to change perspectives. I think Suicide Squad's popularity at the box office and with the 12 - 25 crowd did that a bit already for DC. That being said, I think there is a general malaise towards comic movies now. Both BvS and Civil War failed to live up to the hype/expectations (although Civil War did way better at the box office). Unless it is something different/new and exciting the responses are primarily from non-comic fanboy friends/co-workers. Noone I have talked to at work that saw Dr. Strange said it was great or awesome. The responses are the same - it was nice to see something slightly different from Marvel but it was just okay. Otherwise, it just followed the same formula as their past movies. That being said, GotG 2 and Wonder Woman have a lot of non-comic people interested at work which is nice to see. WRT excitement at trailers.....not in any theatres I have been two over the past two years. The gushing over comic movie trailers has waned locally. At Rogue One over the holidays, the Transformers trailer is the only one that had a couple of fanboys clapping or oohing and aaahing over. C'mon, Civil War exceeded everyone's expectations, especially at the Box Office ($1.15B WW) & 90% RT. BvS failed to hit $1 Billion at the Box Office (currently 7th) & 27% RT. Who would have predicted that CAP3 would win the 2016 WW Box Office crown.
  4. Nice book I'll say 4.5 It would grade higher if not for the marvel chipping / tape on front cover as well colour breaking creases and slight water damage on the back cover. I am assuming the book is complete and not restored but then again like you said 1972 $25 was big bucks to spend for comic book.
  5. Wow, what a great looking book, incredible. Thanks for the validation. I know better than to engage people on pressing, my only point here it there is a look,a 'blueprint', for the way pressed books look today. IMO, this collection has obviously been pressed. Fear mongering! You're not going to get the ASMs cheap. IMHO, the ASMs don't look pressed.
  6. That's a bit of a stretch. Civil War couldn't reach AoU or even IM 3, so I doubt GOTG 2 will reach JW totals. I'm certain it pass 1 billion, but I don't see it bringing in 2x GOTG 1. Anything is possible with Disney though. The new trailer has certainly got every viewer hooked, line & sinker. I just really hope Gunn will come back for GOTG 3. I can't imagine it being as good without him. I think that GotG2 will do better than Civil War, and has a decent shot at topping AoU and IM3, due to the franchise's popularity now. The first GotG was held back by the fact that it was an unknown entity at the time. I had plenty of friends that did not see it as a result of that. Add in a more popular Chris Pratt for the ladies and Baby Groot for the kids, and this film has more widespread appeal potential than the first one did. The only major competitor for GotG2 in May will potentially be the latest Pirate's of the Carribean flick two and a half weeks later (why Disney would do two major releases in the same month is a bit puzzling), but that franchise is not what it used to be. I agree with you re: Gunn. If he leaves it will be tough to replace what he has pulled together with the franchise. Actually, POTC is out May 26th & GotG2 is out May 5th (3 weeks). POTC will probably create addition box office competition for Wonder Woman. Also, with the high US dollar, foreign currency exchange might hurt GotG2 worldwide box office.
  7. I suspect this will be the biggest superhero blockbuster of 2017 at the box office. Wonder Woman while this will do great, it's still science fiction, and unfortunately that doesn't bring everyone in. Wishful thinking for WW. Wonder Woman is being released on June 2nd & competition will be tough. June 9th: The Mummy (Tom Cruise), June 16th: Cars 3, June 20th: Transformers: The Last Knight, June 27th: Despicable Me 3 GotG2 will almost certainly gross over a Billion in worldwide box office.
  8. Tesseract - Space Scepter/Vision - Mind Dr Strange - Time GoG - Power Ether - Reality The movies don't follow the same color scheme as the books. Space Stone - Tesserat - in Asgard Mind Stone - Loki's Scepter - in Vision (Earth) Reality Stone - Aether - in the Collector's Museum (Knowhere) Power Stone - Orb - in Nova Corps' Vault (Xandar) Time Stone - Eye of Agamotto - in Kamar Taj Library (Earth) Soul Stone - (?) - location (?)
  9. wow. by the time it's released in Japan, Dr. Strange 2 will be in theaters in America I am really surprised that the domestic audience wasn`t that much bigger than Ant-Man? Really? What`s up with domestic audiences lately? It seems the international audiences are now a more important factor. Doctor Strange may have been one of the best Marvel movies to date, yet it barely beat Ant-Man domestically? Something`s up. It sure will be interesting now to see Logan`s domestic box office. DS will be around $205M after 24 days. Ant-Man made 180.2M after 77+ days. DS is ahead of AM by 14% after 24 days with competition from Moana & Fantastic Beasts. Yeah...DS is doing pretty good for a C-List Marvel character.
  10. Stephen Strange's watch is the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual. The dial of the watch has the calendar year. So...keep an eye out for it!
  11. +1 Saw the movie on Discount Tuesdays & the movie was pretty good. It's great having Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Slightly OT, at the end of the Logan trailer, I heard the couple behind say, "What Schitt!!"
  12. Absolute BS review. If the movie is so bad...stand up & walk out of the theatre. I've done it.
  13. I'm curious. What did you find so "neutral" about the movie? The plot, the actors, the special effects, the soundtrack? I haven't seen Doctor Strange yet, but I like Cumberbatch movies & Sherlock (BBC). Sherlock is one of the best shows I've ever seen... The episode, A Scandal in Belgravia, with Irene Adler (the Dominatrix) is s-u-p-e-r funny.

  15. Forbes' Scott Mendelson gave Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows & Ben-Hur (2016) a fresh rating and SW:TFA & Deadpool a rotten rating!
  16. That being said, if Dr. Strange can hit $65 million it should be considered a success. If the word of mouth post-film is good then it will have some legs to stand on until Rogue One cuts it down at the knees......... Agreed...Rogue One will crush Dr. Strange & every 2016 movie. The 2nd trailer for RO looks great.
  17. And yet GotG, with a talking raccoon and a walking tree, was being talked about as a hit and opened at $90+ million..........not the $55 - $75 million that Dr. Strange is currently looking at. Yeah...It's so easy to predict GotG's OW after the movie was a runaway success.
  18. This could be temporary. As the marketing ramps up even more, the awareness should expand. It might be temporary, but Dr. Strange is probably their riskiest release yet due to the underlying subject matter/theme. I can see it starting slow, with word of mouth being the key to its success if it is deemed to be a good movie by viewers. Unless it is Potter or Hobbit/LOTR, the fantasy/magic genre is a tough one to get traction with. You think Dr. Strange is a riskier release than Guardians? Yes. The underlying theme for Guardians as a space adventure has been shown to work. Magic/mysticism is a much more difficult approach to attract viewers to. Potter succeeded because it had a huge following from the books already. I have been polling my co-workers, and even the ones who are fans of Cumberbatch from Sherlock have said they are waiting to see what the word of mouth is. If it is good, some may go, but others have said they will wait for Netflix instead (including the two that thought AoU was great ) as they do not care for magic/sorcery films. They all went to GotG....... Holy ...people in Alberta have Netflix?? It's amazing how people have selective memory. A movie with a talking raccoon & a tree that repeats "I am Groot" is RISKIER (P-E-R-I-O-D!)
  19. Slightly OT, Back in 1983, my girlfriend & I watched Superman 3 at a theatre. Absolutely terrible & left the theatre feeling ripped off. Movies that are poorly reviewed are generally crapolla. I liked Superman 3 Sure, it was a bit silly but still entertaining. Then again, I wasn't old enough to date when it came out Superman & Superman 2 are very good movies. Superb casting of Christopher Reeve as Uber-Man & John Williams' soundtrack is still memorable 35 years later. And to watch Superman 3 is a shock to the system.

  21. Not blame China's leaders for being afraid of witchcraft and Japanese flag symbolism in a movie? Interesting. Not at all. China and Japan _hate_ each other and have for more than a century, having fought two major wars in addition to countless other territorial conflicts. They're basically the two major powers in East Asia, and between 1850-1950 each tried to annex the rest of the surrounding countries every decade or so. Rather than this boiling down to a thread about world powers and political control of people (we know where that will go), let's take this back to a situation where a market with much restrictions leads to studios having to be extra cautious what they release. Hogwash. First, you brought up the "Japanese flag symbolism," and I was simply trying to be helpful in explaining exactly how offensive that flag is for folks who may not know the sordid history of Sino-Japanese relations. I happen to know a bit about it, having majored in Japanese in undergrad, attended a Japanese university for a year, and subsequently worked for the Japanese government for a few years. Second, my fear is the exact opposite of "studios having to be extra cautious what they release." My fear is that from here on out, every would-be Hollywood blockbuster includes a gratuitous China tie-in just to try to make it more palatable to that market. Kudos to both Fox and Warner Brothers for having the stones to release hard-R versions of both Deadpool and Suicide Squad this year, full well knowing they were leaving ~$100 million on the table due to the lack of a Chinese market. God forbid if four years from now literally every Hollywood film has been neutered specifically to appeal to Chinese government censors, and/or contains a ridiculous China tie-in. Another example: I _hated_ how both the book and movie of The Martian had what seemed to me to be a gratuitous China tie-in designed specifically to cater to that market (which it did -- $94 million). Whereas, 20 years ago Contact had the exact same plot point (except the duplicate rocket was built in Japan, not China) and it did not seem at all forced. You're giving Fox & WB too much credit. Both are publicly traded companies & their goal is to make money for their executives & share holders. IMHO, both Fox & WB were arrogant. Both studios expected their superhero movies to be played in China....They were wrong.
  22. Were you the original seller of that book as a 5.5? as Roy knows I wasn't the original seller but I bought from clink (I think ) when it was a 5.5 and sold it a bit later Next time I saw it was in a 6.5 holder. Then I saw in a 7.0 and now a 7.5 It did have 2 long non color breaking creases at one point (wish I pressed it ) I knew the AF15 ("6-5") looked familiar. In the OSPG#16, two pages after "A-64", there's the AF15! I wonder if the original owner was Bob Overstreet??
  23. ***Translation*** You don't own Strange Tales #110 I don't and I've never liked the character. I've never owned a AF15 and have seen every Spiderman movie. Sorry, but I'm not a marvel zombie. This doesn't look interesting. It has nothing to do with being a zombie. It's about owning the 1st appearance of a superhero character $$$. We're on a Comic book message board...Capisce!!
